Ka’Lissi was dancing her fingers over the console. On the other side, on his back half slid under the console, NE Simmons was calling back to her with responses to her guidance. “Ok, now…” she paused. “That didn’t work. Try the next one.” She moved her hands over the console once more, the frown back in place from a moment ago.

“There… how’d that do?” The voice came from underneath.

Lissi frowned. “No, I’m still not reading Console 4 here. Try the other trunk bundle.” The two of them had rigged an additional console to be tied to the Warp Core. This one was a bit further away than the others and would be able to give information on another level if things went sideways. They had been at it for most of the ship and both were getting frustrated and tired.

“Now?” Came the voice from underneath.

“No… damn it. Hang on.” She left her post and moved to slide her body underneath next to the NE Lt JG. “Ok, so we tried this one and this one.” She pointed to two of the four connection possibilities. “I want this one to tie back to Console 2 for redundancy so that means…” At that moment, Simmons moved the cable up to put it in the remaining connection.

Suddenly there were sparks and hot glitter dots rained down on the pair. Simmons cried out and covered his face and Lissi reached up in reflex to grip the cable to pull it out. The JG was pulled out by a couple crew mates and the Chief cried out as her hand made contact with both the cable and the connector and grounded her to both. The smell of burnt flesh preceded her cry of pain and shock as she was yanked from under the console as well.

=^=Jaspers to Medical. Emergency in Engineering. Two injured, electrical, conscious but not sure they can make it on their own power down there,=^= Came the voice of the Shift Supervisor. Lissi’s voice could be heard in the background. “NO! I’m fine… see to Simmons. Get the first ai…” the voice was cut off as the comm was completed.

Lissi pointed to the emergency locker as she grabbed a rag from her back pocket and wrapped her hand before kneeling by Simmons. His face had burn marks where the sparks had landed prior to burning out and he was hyperventilating from pain. “Simmons… it’s all right. Calm down. Slow your breathing.” She was struggling with his wrists trying to keep him from touching his face and making it worse, her face wincing from the pain in her palm where the electricity had burned her own flesh.

=/\= Medical response en route. =/\= came a calm, feminine voice. Less than a minute later the doors slid open and the CMO and two Medical staff came through the door. Abel looked at the assemblage and said “Wounded here.” and pointed at the floor. “Everyone back up, give us room.” he looked at the CE and flash of concern swept his face, but he then looked at Simmons. He pointed to Lissi and said “Assess, please.” and he knelt next to Simmons, taking his writs form Lissi and gently but firmly pulling them down. “Ensign. Be calm.” he said in a soft voice. “I am Doctor Abel. I’m going to take care of you.” he held the man’s hands in his lap as he looked him over.

There were some superficial burns on his face, throat, and hands. But the concern was the burns near his eyes. As Siegfried looked closer, there were specks on the man’s eye lids. “Ok, Ensign. It doesn’t look too bad, but we are going to get you to sickbay so i can clean you up, ok?” Without looking over at the Ensign taking care of Lissi, he said calmly “Ensign, what is the status of the Chief Engineer, please?”

Simmons finally calmed down enough to grip his slacks and quit trying to reach for his face. His breathing was still erratic from pain and shock.

The Ensign called back with a professional tone. “Material covering possible first and second degree electrical burns. Material sticking on two edges. Vitals elevated, but within expected range. Possible shock setting in.”

Lissi spoke up. “Take care of Simmons, Doc. I’ll be down as soon as I secure things up here. No worries.” She pulled her hand from the nurses hand and winced slightly.

The CMO looked at her and said simply but firmly “No. You are coming to be seen. No arguments. That is a direct medical order, Lieutenant.” and he turned back to Simmons. “What say we get you moved to Sickbay, shall we?” and he tapped his commbadge. =^= CMO to transporter. Sending names for immediate point to point transport from my location to Sickbay, please. =^= there was a brief pause and then Simmons, Abel, and the CE vanished in a swirl of lights.

They rematerialized in Sickbay. Abel spoke up immediately. “Two with electrical burns. Full workup, treat for shock. Ensign in Bay One, Lieutenant in Bay Four. Cross reference for allergies and and then lets get those burned cleaned up. Doctor Jovat, with me please. Ophthalmology referral.”
