She shook her head. “I’m sorry your family was that way. Mine was the opposite. I grew up believing mine wanted nothing to do with me. Only to find out I have just shy of three months to claim my House and inheritance. So,” she shrugged, “I am not here for what you do out there.” She pointed over the cliff motioning to the space beyond it. “I’m here for what and who you are here, in this cabin, right now with me.” She smiled and she looked down a moment later, turning back to her plate as she felt the blush rise on her cheeks. “Sorry… but I mean that, Abel,” she said and looked back up at him, “I’m not after you for whatever money you have. Honestly, I’d rather every penny remained in the ‘hobby’.” She smiled.

“Well, inheritances aren’t all they’re cracked up to be, trust me. I know of what I speak.” and he chuckled. He moved his plate away and set his hands on the table. “So is dessert next? Or do we have time to take a walk?” he asked softly.

Abel, CMO

She smiled. “Definitely time for a walk. Can always take the dessert with us. But we should have another hour or so left.” She smiled. “And I want my inheritance because it’s my House and my name. If I do not claim it, the Council has the right to divide it up among the ruthless and wealthy. And my name, my father’s name, R’osh, could be purged from that day forward. Any child I have couldn’t have any claim on their Klingon side. So even if I proclaim a steward, and leave them for good, I have to claim it or it’s lost as are those who come after me.” She took a deep breath and she shook her head. “Talk for another time. You wanted a walk, I believe?”

He inclined his head and said “Indeed. Let’s see what the view is like.” and he stood and pulled on the sweater and hat and then offered her his arm.

Abel, CMO

She rose as he slid the sweater and hat on and took the offered arm. “We can go up to a mile in any direction, I believe. Further if we set the cart of food in the alcove. Depends how far you want to go, Abel.” She smiled and stepped outside with him. The breeze tugging at the loose strands of hair around her face.

“Let’s just go to the edge and look at the ocean. That all right with you?” he asked as the breeze sang softly across the land between them and the edge of the cliffs.

Abel, CMO

“Mmhhmmm,” she nodded with a smile. Her hand rose to rest on the arm hooked to his. “I’ll have to be careful around you, Doc. I believe you have planted a seed of corruption called ‘retirement’ in my brain.” She smiled and glanced at him. “I may want that one day as well.”

They moved to the cliffside and she smiled. But when they got close and the waves bashing the shore and the beach came into view, Lissi pulled up short and hard, her heart suddenly pounding in her ears louder than the waves or the wind. “I…” she slid her arm from his and stepped back till the calm water was all she saw. Forcing a smile she crossed her arms. “Go ahead. It’s an amazing view. You should see it.” Her jaw was shaking.

He looked at her and watched for a moment and said =^= Computer. Make waves calm and rolling, no breakers. =^= and there was a chirp and instantly the breaking waves stopped and became gentle ones lapping the coastline as far as they could see. He looked at her and said “That better?”

Abel, CMO

She nodded slightly. “A little, thank you. I just…” she tried to laugh but it bordered on hysterical. “Oceans and the surf. Never been a fan.” She said in a polite way that they scared the hell out of her. “Can’t explain it. I guess it’s the thought of the unknown depth and what’s down there.” She smiled and as calming slightly but hadn’t moved forward any more.

He nodded and said “We can just walk along here, no need to go closer.” and he walked next to her and put his hand on her back to steer her away and towards the stone path.

Abel, CMO

She let him walk on the cliff side and smiled. “I’m sorry. You don’t have to pamper me. You can go to the cliffs if you want. I’m sure you could even get steps to the beach if you want.” She stepped a bit closer as he put his hand on her lower back. “But thank you. It’s beautiful out here, honest. I’m sorry I ruined the moment, thought.” She set her feet on the stone path and sighed as the cliffs ended up behind them.

He looked straight ahead and smiled. “You didn’t ruin anything. The moment is what is because of who I share it with, not the scenery. That’s just the backdrop.” and they began walking down the path.

Abel, CMO

She felt his hand lower then come back up and she smiled. “I am enjoying this as well. But would you be offended if I recommended we had dessert back in my quarters? I just worry I won’t be able to relax again. I’m sorry. If you want, you can just take the trifle to your place if you prefer. You don’t have to come over.” She knew it was a bold move on her part, but she wasn’t sure she could sit calmly at that table again, the view being what she knew it had been, and be relaxed anymore.

His eyebrows raised in a small surprise, but he said “Um… yes. I think I would like that very much.” and he steered them back to the cottage. Once there, he helped her clean up and picked up the trifle and cream. “Is that all?” he asked looking around.

Abel, CMO

She helped him clean up and smiled. “I believe so. I’m sure we’ll hear from someone if we left something behind.” She turned for the door then turned back to him. “I just want you to know, I could retire here, you know.” She smiled and turned away to head for the door of the cottage.

Once they exited the holodeck, she shivered in the cool but still air of the halls. “So different,” she murmured. It almost sounded sad. “So dessert time. And then I promise to send you home so you don’t turn into a pumpkin. Deal?” She laughed and led the way.

He looked at her confused for a moment. “And why would I do that?” and he began to follow her down the passageway.

Abel, CMO

She laughed and shook her head. “It’s all right, Abel… don’t worry about it,” she carefully linked her arm to his as he carried the dessert and they headed for her quarters.
