He said “No, no. Absolutely not.” and he stood and motioned her to sit. “Lady sits. Gentleman fetches. I will tolerate no less.” and he smiled and turned. He looked back and said “Besides, everyone knows it’s vanilla ice cream on cobbler. I swear, it’s like you have never eaten anything.”

Lissi laughed and handed him her glass. “As you wish, kind Sir.” She blushed at the Lady comment. She doubted any true Lady would get around the ship half as much as she did. And that’s not counting getting dirty.

As he mentioned vanilla ice cream, she laughed once more. “Doesn’t ice cream go with everything?”

“Well, that’s what all the books say.” he replied with a smile and turned and left. It took a couple of minutes, but he returned with a large bowl half filled with warm cobbler and two scoops of melting ice cream on top, and fresh drinks. He set down the bowl and then sat himself. “Now this is something I would dive face-first into with little to no encouragement.” and he picked up a spoon.

She laughed and picked up the other spoon. “Off the deep end, Doc. I’ve got your back.” She scooped up a nice sized mouthful and brought it to her mouth, her other hand under the spoon to catch any drips. “Oh, lords and ladies, that’s good.” She laughed and covered her mouth.

He nodded in agreement and ate several more bites before speaking. “This is honestly better than most other I have had. Just the right combination of warm, sweet, and sticky.” and he took another bite.

Lissi smiled and winked as she had another mouthful. “I’m so glad we are discussing the dessert.” She laughed. “So you said you were happy with cobbler. But I have to ask. What dessert would you like to share if you could have any dessert you wanted. And where would we go?” She didn’t realize she had inserted herself as the other person he’d share it with.

Abel looked at her quizzically for a moment and then smiled slightly, even as a small amount of redness came into his face. “If that were the situation, I think I would take you to the White Cliffs of Dover, on Earth. And there we would enjoy bread pudding with whiskey sauce. And where would we go if you planned the outing, hmm?” he asked with a smile.

Lissi smiled. “I’ve never had bread pudding. And I’ve never been to the White Cliffs though I have heard of them and seen pictures. They look amazing.” She gave her answer some thought as she had another bite. “Ummmm… for me? I am thinking probably a cherry chocolate trifle. As to ‘where’…” she thought for another moment. East Coast of the States, maybe around the Carolinas. The beach, just as a storm is rolling in. Just before it let’s loose with the rain.” She smiled and shook her head. “I love storms. It’s one of the things I miss, being in space.”

Abel nodded. “I think I would enjoy that. Where I grew up, there were never any storms. Rain was scheduled, and the temperature was consistently seventy-eight degrees with no fluctuations… it was perfect. All the time.” and he sighed. “It was boring. I hated it.”

“It’s one of the reasons I loved the Eastern Seaboard. The weather changed both thru the seasons and even within each respective season. But I love storms especially. The way the water slowly changes color from spun azure glass to steel colored liquid. Then to sit in a house, large glass windows, to watch and listen without the distraction of wind and water to mar the experience.” She blushed. “Sorry, rambling again.”

“I find it relaxing, actually. Please… you are free to ramble as often as you like.” and he smiled at her.

Lissi nodded respectfully. “A gentleman and a scholar. Maybe we should mix it up. Do they impressive storms on the cliffs? Perhaps a nice holo program with a beautiful period cottage on the cliffs, over looking the sea.” She smiled. “Bread pudding and trifle on the menu after a nice dinner of perhaps Sheppard’s Pie?” She smiled wondering if that was as crazy sounding as it seemed in her head.

He smiled and set his spoon aside and looked at her. “That is a smashing idea. Tomorrow night?” he asked with a grin.

She scooped up the last bite in the bowl and was halfway thru finishing it when his question caught her off guard. She covered her mouth to keep from coughing onto her plate and smiled. “Um… of course. I’d love to.” She smiled brighter and nodded. “I’ll reserve the holodeck. What time would you like to meet? And I will let you pick the manner of dress, or costume if you prefer.” She laughed slightly trying to imagine herself in period dress from any era other than this one.

He was about to respond when his comms chirped. =^= Doctor, your presence is requested in Sickbay, sir. =^= and he looked disappointed for a moment. Sighing, he tapped his badge in his shirt pocket and said =^= Understood. On my way. =^= and he looked at Lissi. “I am so sorry to cut our time short. But! Tomorrow. 1900 hours.” and he stood and offered her his hand. “Irish rustic dress.” and he chuckled.

She smiled and took his hand to rise. “I will do my best not to disappoint. Be well, Doctor. And do try and find your rack at some point tonight, please. I’ll be in my office till late if you need, or want, anything.” She smiled once more and nodded to him.

He smiled back and said “Inwill certainly keep that in mind. And I will see you for our date tomorrow. Have a good evening.” and he walked away and headed out.

Lissi smiled. “Good evening to you, too, Abel.” She watched him go and cleared the table before heading back to her quarters.
