He looked at her confused for a moment, and then said “Oh! Oh no… that… that wasn’t a journal. It was minutes from a board mee… just some things from that side project I mentioned.”

As they entered the corridor. “Not sure where else is less crowded…” she thought for a moment. “I think I have an idea.” She smiled and led him towards the lift. “You ok with the replicator for lunch? Or should we stop at the mess first?”

He shrugged and said “I eat from the replicator everyday, but I do enjoy some of the dishes in the mess as well. I am open and flexible to whatever you desire.” and he smiled and stepped into the lift.

Abel, CMO

Lissi smiled. She’d caught his slip but wouldn’t mention it. Hitting deck 39 she nodded. “Ok so replicator today for lunch, for time and a less crowded place. Next time you choose the place and I’ll make sure it’s fresh cooked food we dine on. How’s that?”

He nodded and said “That sounds like a good trade. I accept.” and he watched as the lift moved through the ship. When the doors opened, he gestured for her to leave first. “After you.”

Abel, CMO

She stepped out on deck 39 and headed down the hall. “I am sure you know, or will in a moment, we are ducking into Sickbay 3. We can use the replicators there to grab lunch, then pop up one deck to the Arboretum. I go there a lot cause no one comes down this far very often during the day. I fear at night, the lowest of the Arboretums is sometimes scattered with couples trying to get some privacy.” She laughed as she came around the corner near Medical. “Which kind of defeats the purpose because ‘everyone’ goes there to be alone.” She palmed open the medical bay and lights came on as they stepped in.

Abel nodded and followed her I to the space,and then lead the way to the replicator. Once there, he looked at her and said “I hope this doesn’t derail your plans, but your department… at my request… locked out non-medical related materials from all the replicators in Medical areas.” and he smiled. “Although I am sure as the Chief Engineer you have a way of making sure things work the way you need or want them to.” and he stepped back to let her work her magic.

“Ahhhhh… nice to know before I got the warning. And yes, simple fix.” She pulled off a panel beneath the counter set at the replicator and crouched on the balls of her feet.

A moment later, she snugged the panel back into place and stood up. “Ok, your medical chief override code, and mine,” she smiled, “wel allow you to get food now or anything you need. In case you need to get away sometime on your own.” She nodded for him to give it a try.

He entered his code and then looked at her. “Please… ladies first.” and he stepped back and waved her forward.

Abel, CMO

She laughed and nodded, “Thank you, Sir.. a definite gentleman.” She was partially teasing, but the compliment fit him so thoroughly, she was pretty sure it wasn’t a tease. She stepped up and a moment later had a bowl of spaghetti and a glass of fruit juice. “Your turn, kind Sir.” She smiled and stepped back.

Abel ordered a bowl of gazpacho and brown bread and butter. He also got a glass of lemonade. Turning to Lissi, he said “Do we head to the Arboretum? Or do we make use of the biobed to ease our appetites?” and smiled again, simply happy to be enjoying the company.

She almost choked on sip of her juice trying not to laugh. “Ummm… that’s up to you. I’m guessing you mean using the bed to put our dinners on? Pull up chairs… of just hop up on it and eat while swinging out legs like a couple kids?” She smiled and wondered if he was doing it on purpose.

He smiled and said “Oh, I have no preference. Whichever position suits you is fine by me. As I said, I am flexible. And I was simply offering an alternative of that struck your fancy.”

Abel, CMO

She smiled and nodded. “How about the bed as a table,” she moved over to it and set her stuff down. “I’ll go wrangle us a couple seats.” She headed into the small office nearby and grabbed two seats. “Here, how’s this?”

Abel nodded and helped arraign the chairs and food. Pulling her chair out for her, he said “Of all the things I have done on a biobed… ‘lunch’ is, I think, a first. And I thank you for the invitation. This much better than a sandwich in quarters or the office.”

Abel CMO

“A first for me as well.” She settled down and took a bite of food before speaking again. “So, the journal. Can I ask what the top said? I understood medico, was it? Means medical or medicine?” She took a sip of juice and watched him.
