What caught the CSO’s eyes was the presence of nanites. These were not found in the conduits along the ship, as well as in the various internal circuitry of the ship’s consoles. There were conduits for plasma and there were conduits for nanites. The tricorder could not determine whether they were the same as those found on the Borg. A microscopic study was needed to that end. : : The COS already had her eyes adjusted to the dark but it was still very difficult to see in front of her. However, they did not detect any Borg drones. : ____ : GM Kate led the group and was doing a half decent job until the shadows covered a section of the hull that she walked directly into. “Jumping up Crickets on a busciut,” Kate groaned rubbing the front of her head. She stood for a second then and listened. There was a dull low sound coming from somewhere. It was faint but could be noticed if one listened for it and listened closely. “Riss....do you hear something,” she asked lowering her hand and looking around. It reminded her of the low drone of bees that had built a nest in a piece of farm equiptment back home. Nothing you would ever notice unless you got the bees all riled up. Lt. (j.g.) OOC: Just to say that the transport would be possible.
- GM
OOC: RL will keep me busy for the next few days. Will resume posting on Saturday (7 July) latest.
- GMEan watched, wondering what all was happening. Laura was here with him which made him feel a need to protect her, but knew he needed to keep professional.
Zol, Engineering
OOC: I thought there was a post on the bridge thread regarding the transport. What happened to it? Is there a way to see the posts from 2 weeks ago?
-KensonOOC: Sadly no, we may have missed it when we grabbed everything. We tried to grab all the active threads we could but it may have slipped are pull.
~Steven
OOC: OK. I will start a thread in science. Those in science and engineering can then work on it.
GM
Laura noticed a red beam that reminded her of a borg drone. “Lt. O’Neill, there is a red beam of light targeting your back.” she said, to alert the COS of a possible danger. She looked around her to find the source of the light.
Jenkins XO
Kate spun around so the beam was not pointed at her chest instead of her back. “Borg beams don’t hurt you. It’s those pinchy needly things attached to the Borg wearing the beam that are the real issue. And if was on my back, then it is behind you,” Kate said scanning the darkness behind the XO and the rest of the people behind her for any trace of the beam’s origin. Sometimes being point turned out to be safer than bringing up the rear. She had no idea what to expect. How could she. They were on an alien ship that was possibly Borg in origin. All Kate knew was that she was better off facing what was coming at her rather than be caught with her pants down facing the wrong way.
Lt. (j.g.) Kate O’Neill, CoS
The source of the red beam was a mounted upside down dome. As the COS moved, the beam moved with her. It was almost as if it was tracking her.
-GM
“There!” Ean said as he pointed at the dome, now would be a good time for weapons but he took out his tricroder. He began to get as many readings, seeing if there was a threat. Ean kept his mind also open, Borg were unlike many entities but he knew he should sense something and felt a bit unnerved by this place.
Kate moved to the left. If there was one thing Kate learned from all her years in a treestand it was how to track something. Unfortunately when you were being tracked, it was a very disconcerting feeling. Since they hadn’t fired and had ample opportunity to do so by this point, Kate tried a different direction instead of stumbling around in the dark. “Hello,” she called out as if entering someone familiar’s home instead of knocking while looking in the direction of the red beam. “I’m Kate. Kate O’Neill with two L’s. The other O’Neil’s have no sense of humor I have been told. We were just passing by and thought we would say hello. We have cake,” she offered. If they replied she would worry about the promise of cake later.
Lt. (j.g.) Kate O’Neill CoS
Zol, Engineering
There was a mechanical voice that came rather softly, “Language unfamiliar. What is ‘L’?” That was the best that the universal translator could come up with.
-GM“See,” Kate looked at the members of her party. “Although I can count on my hand the number of times blathering banter saved the day just talking and having manners instead of a gun can work too. Not always…well probably rarely,” she paused for a second thinking about what she said, “but it has happened.” While Kate was technically in charge of the away team as per the Captain’s orders, the XO was here and outranked her. “Well ma’am are you gonna give this a go because all I got is singing the alphabet and hoping they are fast learners,” she said to Laura.
“Okay, so I am not the best acapella. I do a mean whistle solo but you need the alphabet so here goes,” Kate said. Before starting slightly under her breath Kate mumbled, “thank God Fiona went to that speech therapist for a while in Kindergarten.” Kate took a deep breath and in a very preschool like teacher voice began to sing the song she learned in school. ” A is for apple aah aah ahhaple. B is for ball buh buh buh ball. C is for cat kah kah cat. D is for dog duh duh dog. E is for elephant eh eh eh.”
“Wait singing? I don’t want to hear Irish folk tunes sung in a West Virginia twang.” Ean said with a slight sardonic smirk as he looked at Kate. They hadn’t had much interactions up to this point, but he couldn’t help but like everything about the woman at the same time. She seemed someone he could tease and her not get mad.
Zol, Engineering
“Everyone’s a critic,” she laughed hearing Zol’s comment and stopping the song. The idea was not one for the logs and Kate probably would deny ever had trying this but sometimes the stupidest ideas where the most brilliant. Other times they were just stupid. Only time would tell which one this would be.
Lt. (j.g.) Kate O’Neill CoS
The machine voice sounded again, “Mirth? Why are you on board the vessel? You have not harmed ship so far. What is your purpose?”
- GM
Kate looked around the room at the group. No one seemed ready to get their hand up and ask the teachers question so Kate decided to give it a whirl. It was not like she could do any more damage and if she did, someone that outranked her would fix it. “I prefer jocosity myself or chummy. That is a word you don’t tend to hear many use.”
Kate hoped her foray into Federation standard might make this meeting easier. “Remember I am the girl that doesn’t trust anyone without a sense of humor? Now to your other question, we are from the USS Odin. It is a ship that belongs to a group called Starfleet which belongs to a large organization called the Federation. Our job is to seek out new life, new civilizations and to boldly go where no man has gone before.”Kate resisted the urge to break out in a laugh. The motto of Starfleet sounded so much grander coming from men like Kirk and Cochrane during their motivational speeches to the troops. To Kate, it sounded like she was introducing some cheesy sci-fi serial. Clearing her throat she tried again. This first contact thing is harder than it sounds, she thought to herself. “We will not harm you. We are scientists and explorers. Your ship appeared on our sensors. We were curious. We tried to contact you but when we did not recieve a reply we decided to explore your ship, and just walk in, uninvited, without really knocking” Kate decided to quit while she was maybe ahead.
Kate O’Neill House crasher and walking thesaurus.
“We are just curious, you… match a some species we have had experience with.” Ean added, hoping they were indeed not the Borg as this may end really bad.
Zol, Engineering
“Species?” the machine asked. “There is only one kind of us. We are the ship, we exist to explore, we exist to understand. In our travels, we have not met any beings like us.”
-GM
Heard that before. Sounds like another species I know. We are the Betazoids. We can read your mind but will claim we didn’t. We will eavesdrop and then tell everyone in your senior class you like Brad’s brass so the entire percussion section of Old Mill High shows up on your lawn asking if you will be Brad’s date to prom while you are making out on the couch with you boyfriend who is on leave from the academy. Awkward, Kate let the memory fill her mind.
Shaking her head, Kate held up a finger. “Okay, okay I get the hive mentality but is there a head to one of you. You know someone you set apart that we can talk to like Bob or Jim.”
Lt. Kate O’Neill security
“Head? There is no head. We are the ship. You can talk to us,” came the reply.
-GM
“Ship? Do you not have a crew… are you… one?” Ean asked, this was getting more bizzare, what was this thing? It seemed to have become it’s own entity, alone and separate. “What is your name?”
Zol, Engineering

“What exactly do you mean you are the ship?” Laura asked, wanting to know more about who or what they were dealing with. She was responsible for the safety of the >away team, and they were at a great disadvantage .
Jenkins XO
“We are Ship. We are many and we are one,” came the reply.
-GM
“Sounds like the Borg minus the hostility, but… crew. Is there any crew on the ship… a collective?” Ean asked, wondering what happened to everyone there.
