James woke up on a shuttle to his new home. He was attending a defense conference and learning the latest stuff in the defense Technologies. Maybe he can recommend some stuff to the new CO. Soon the shuttle dock with the ship and Jame set off to find his new boss but first things first he needs to check in with security for his meeting and to get himself registered with the phaser likely he took the course before he left he just needs to show the certificate. After Walking The Halls in a few minutes he found the security office he pressed the door chime and waited.

“Come in,” Kate’s chipper voice rang out from behind the door. Walking in the newest sec jo would not see someone polished in a Starfleet uniform. Instead he would see a more casual appearance of his new commanding officer. Kate was dressed in fatigue pants and the standard black tank top that was part of the uniform but often hidden under the colorful shirt bearing her department colors. Her hair was pulled into a high pony tail so the ends of it brushed her shoulders as she walked. In her hand was a travel sized cup of coffee as she read a PaDD behind her desk. Her cheeks were a bit flushed as if she had been doing something a bit strenuous before his arrival.

Lt. Kate O’Neill, Cos

James entered the room and stood at attention “ensign Wolf reporting for duty” he said in his most professional voice he could mustar. He still had his bags with him he was fresh off the shuttle.

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

“Welcome to the Odin. Looks like I was your first stop,” Kate said spying his bags. “Have a seat and tell me something about yourself that isn’t in this PaDD? Would you like something to drink,” Kate offered.

Lt. Kate O’Neill, Cos

James took a seat ” Yes cold green tea with honey and gensin” he said as he relaxed. His eyes scaned the room then he said ” i am a good pilot when i was little i had an old NX class shuttle i got to fly it alot and during the academy I took a few courses in fighter pilot” he said as he smiled.

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

“Perfect we always are looking for good pilots. Anything else,” Kate said giving him the requested drink.

Lt. Kate O’Neill, Cos

Jame took the drink and said ” i am a marksmen best in my class but that may be due to my cybernetic eyes” he siped his tea ☕.

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

“Well that depends on how you define the term and parameters of marksmanship. If you say you are the best because you can hit a stationary target in a sanitary environment given artificial attributes that is one parameter. If you say you are the best without any enhancements like bipods, cybernetics or the such and choose to engage your targets in a real world environment with moving targets that is something else,” Kate said looking at him as she sipped her coffee.

Lt. Kate O’Neill COS

James looked at her “i was good in a halo environment and a real world environment. you don’t get real training with a stationary Target. And when i waa born i was blind so i don’t realy say my cybernetic eye’s are enhancements but they do help alot on away missions and security jobs” he said as he finished his tea.

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

“But they do give you an unnatural advantage. How far can you see because of them?” Kate asked. She was good to about 875 yards. For a sniper that ranked her as one of the best but like all things that did not mean every shot at 875 yards was dead on or perfect. Her accuracy rating was about 96%. The saying aim small miss small was a mantra in her family.

Lt. Kate O’Neill COS

James looked at her “the max i got them was at 900 yards 930 if i was using a scope” he said as he put his cup down on the tabel.

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

“So besides being good with a weapon what else makes you tick Mr. Wolf,” Kate smiled at him. He would be an remarkable asset to her team.

Lt. Kate O’Neill COS

James smiled ” well I may be Vulcan but I’m also part human. I enjoy meditation I play the Ocarina it’s a flute type instrument. I’m really good at tactical games. And I love animals.” He said as he picked up his glass ” I was wondering if I can have another cup”

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

“Of course. I give the stuff out like it is ammo. Help yourself,” Kate said with a smile. “So is the Vulcan hertiage from your mother or father’s side,” she asked.

Lt. Kate O’Neill COS

James turned to her ” Farher side my mother was in star fleet. I belive she was COS of the telstory about 40 years ago my father he was a tactical officer at wolf 359” he said as he got himself more tea.

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

“So any questions about me,” she asked her newest officer.

Lt. Kate O’Neill COS

James smiled “just one when can i get started” james took a sip of his tea.

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

“How about next wee between 0920 and 0922. I am a busy girl,” Kate said with a straight face before breaking into a smile. “Shoot,” she said looing at Wolfe so that the man knew he could continue on with his question.

Lt. Kate O’Neill COS

James held up his glass ” to next week then” he said with a smiled. He pulled a small box from his bag ” this is a gift” he said as he opened it ” i the past celtic fighters will give there Friends a knife so they will always have t blade to fight off an enemy” he gave the COS the box with rhe knife. The knife was made by hand the handle grip was made of a smooth bone finish with small silver knots in it for grip. On the bottom of the grip was a small sculpture of a wolf’s head and rhe blade had a gold trim to it.

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

“Oh my god, it is beautiful,” Kate said inspecting the blade. As she ran her fingers over the intricately carved decorations she was speechless. “Pays to be half Irish I guess to get something like this. This is exquisite,” she said softly still admiring the knife. “Back home when we got bored we would chuck knives at a target. Think red neck archery,” Kate laughed. “This is too pretty however to do that.”

Staring at the hilt she looked up at Wolf. “Is the wolf indicative of more than your family name,” she asked seeing an obvious connection but wondering if there was more to it. “My name means nine hostage takers. There are five in my family and so far my brother married Shaun’s sister. I am engaged to Shaun so we got two more slots open until we reach our quota of nine,” she laughed.

Lt. Kate O’Neill COS

James Laughed with her ” the knife is perfectly balanced and i made it myself this year”

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

“You made this,” Kate asked a bit shocked but at the same time not so much. Uncle Jeb swore that whittling was calming and therapeutic. A man’s cross-stitching he had said exactly. Balancing the knife on her fingertips she nodded noticing it was balanced perfectly. It was neither tip heavy or butt heavy. Looking at Wolfe she made a gesture with her hand indicating he move his head to the right. Behind him was a large corkboard. Kate was ready to try her knife but not scare her newest officer in the process.

Lt. Kate O’Neill COS

James moved to the side to give her a clear Target ” remember the knife is perfectly balanced you don’t need to rotate or throw hard” he said calmly. His eyes are fixed on her looking at her wrists to judge her throwing Style.

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

Kate stopped for a second and looked at him. He seemed nice enough and maybe was just being helpful, but part of her felt like this interview as a shoe size measuring contest. Frankly, she didn’t care if he thought she was the biggest and baddest thing out there. She was and she knew it. Five brothers, a whole passel of redneck relatives and living on a farm had taught her a few moves. Throwing the knife, Kate’s aim was dead on as always. Few people these days fought with knives or learned archery. She and Shaun had been doing that since they were barely old enough to enter grade school. “The balance is amazing,” she commented looking at it sticking in a perfect 90 degree angle in the cork board square. If Wolfe removed the knife, he would see the area littered with dings and cuts indicating the square was used often and by a variety of cutting implements.

Lt. Kate O’Neill COS

James was impressed with her aim. She knew how to command her weapon and her skills seem on par. He knew for a fact now that she was the right person for her job and he will cover her back whenever she needs it. “nice throw madam but mind if I make a suggestion if you keep your elbow in a little bit you can achieve the same accuracy but with a little bit more Force” he took the knife out of the target area and demonstrated. his aim was also dead on as the blade went into the target with a loud bang noise.

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

“Yes but the trick is to work hard with less than the ideal. Come’re,” she let a bit of her southern twang fill the sentence while she opened the top drawer to her desk. “Now I will deny this but,” Kate replied pulling out a small tray filled with various blades. None of the blades were anything that could actually be considered a weapon unless you were a tub of butter and a loaf of bread. “Care to try your luck with unbalanced weapons,” Kate shrugged picking up a butter knife.

Lt. Kate O’Neill COS

James smiled ” in the past a group of celtic Warriors the wolf Clan with nothing but leather armor and crudely made weapons defeated a army of two hundred French soldiers. I’m sure I can Master any weapon that I touch” he grabed one of the knifes and looked it over. With his eyes and his mind he did the calculations and chunked it at the Target little off course let’s still hit pretty close to the center.

Ensign James Wolf (Security)

“Nice one,” Kate said with a grin. Then with a sigh, she looked at Wolfe seeing the time on the wall. “We will have to do this again but right now I have to meet with the Captain and get the brown off my nose,” Kate laughed rubbing the tip. “At least that is what everyone will think when they see me babysitting his girls. The truth is I just love kids. I came from a big family. I want a big family and right now I am short on the munchkin fun. My brother and sister-in-law are due to have my first niece or nephew in the spring. I am so going home for that but until then it is building pillow forts with Nalia and Malia.”
