Ensign Polis walked the corridor and came to a set of double doors. The reading on the door said sickbay. “Best to get these jobs out of the way early” he thought. He looked down at his left hand and imagined the burnt injuries still there. They were visibly all healed up but the memory was there and sometimes the nerves in the hand did tingle a bit. With his bag still slung over his right shoulder he stepped inside.
Ensign Polis, Security

Tauren glanced up from a medical journal he had been reading. “Ah. Ensign, we do not usually keep duffel bags in the sick bay. Is there something I can assist you with?”

Polis looked at the Doc, then at his bag and back to the Doc. “I’m sorry Doc. I’ve only just arrived on board and haven’t been assigned quarters yet. I figured I should check in for my medical considering I’m new. Also I thought I should start here as my hand is still tingling.” He held up his left hand in the air for the Doc to see… to see absolutely nothing visibly wrong. He put his hand down again realising he must have just come across as a fool. Regaining his composure and thoughts quickly, he approached the Doc and held out his right hand, “I’m sorry. Where are my manners. Polis, Ezio Polis. Just arrived from the Endeavour. Pleased to meet you”.

“It’s quite alright, Ensign Polis,” Tauren answered, returning the handshake, if slightly awkwardly; it wasn’t a particularly Vulcan thing to do. “I do recall my own first day.”
He released the grip, and motioned towards an available bed. “If you would prefer, I’m sure the Chief Medical Officer will be coming on duty shortly, but I am happy to assist you with the requirements. And to look at that hand; what is the history of injury there? It looks alright, superficially.”

Polis realised that the handshake probably made the Vulcan uncomfortable but it wasn’t his intention. “Thank you Doc. My hand was burnt pretty bad about three weeks during an incident on board the Endeavour. I cannot fault my past medical care but I still get a tingle now and again. My last physician suggested that seek medical advice in my new posting.” He dropped his bag to the floor out of the way and sat on the biobed and held his hand out.
