SNIP

Mwezi looked back at Sideman. “You might as well head back to bed. Get some sleep and let me finish the Night shift,” he commented with a small smile.

  • Lt. Mwezi, WO

“What’s our current speed Helsman” he asked.

Lt. Commander Michael Sideman, XO

“Warp 5.5, sir. It’s a bit faster than our regular cruising speed, so I’ll have to slow down soon. The Orion border is pretty far away,” NE Peters replied, glancing back at Mwezi, who nodded in approval.

NE Peters

There was an incoming message on the PaDD that gave them their orders.

===MISSION BREIF FOR USS CHERNOV===

The Chernov will make it’s way to planet Ordel to meet with Govenor Delain. Governor Delain will be in the capital city of Gongdu and will have an entourage waiting to escort the Captain and whomever he sees fit to come along. No weapons will be allowed and the Ordelians will not have any weapons either. The Captain and or his delegate are there to negotiate a first contact treaty. You are to secure as much resources as you can with mining rights and the like as well as establish a good report and an embassy. Starfleet will send the new Ambassador once a favorable contract has been signed. The planet is rich in Bio-mimetic gel: A volatile substance with medical applications. It is also highly sought after for use in illegal activities, such as genetic experimentation and biological weapons development. As such, its use is strictly regulated by the United Federation of Planets, and sale of the substance is prohibited.

There will be other buyers/First Contact personnel from various other planets and worlds from different systems. If you see any new species, then as a secondary mission, perform a First Contact on them as well. It is unknown what other species are going to be there but expect the Orions and Klingons. It is also unknown as to how the Ordelians contacted us as no one has ever contacted their species or planet before. Be careful.

===End Transmission===

Captain Chris Taggart, CO

Cruising at warp to Ordel would be smooth, demanding little attention until the ship ground to a halt. NE Peters rose from his seat at the helm, approached a security officer and held out his hand. Without making eye contact, NE Vulk handed over his phaser. TimothyLooming ressed a button, turning the setting to kill. He raised the weapon and ended his life. Vulk picked up and holstered his weapon.

-Fate

Sideman seeing the events yelled, “What the hell is going on?”

Pressing a button on the Captain’s chair he commanded, “Security to the bridge on the double.”

Looking over at the security officer Commander Sideman continued, “You are under arrest..hand over your weapon.”

Sideman moved over to NE Vulk and continued, “Slowly, give me your phaser.”

Sideman

Vulk looked blankly at Sideman. “What happened sir?”

-Fate

“What do you mean what happened? A man just killed himself right here with your weapon and you did nothing to stop it” answered the Commander.

Looking around he continued, “Where is my security detail and get me a new helmsman” ordered the Commander.

Sideman

Security arrived on the bridge and surrounded Vulk. “Hand over your weapon ensign. Nice and slow.” Vulk offered his phaser but didn’t move. “I still don’t understand.” A new helm officer took her place. “Sir. Helm controls are not responding.” Security pulled Vulk towards the turbolift doors. “We’ll get to the bottom of this Commander.”

[O]Security to sickbay, we have casualties on the bridge.[C]

-Fate

As the lift doors opened, Bridie gasped and stepped swiftly onto the bridge to give the security detail room. “What’s going on?” She asked and looked around. She was the Engineer on duty for first shift, and there to get the morning CO briefing if there was one.

Moving to the Engineering station, she did a quick check then looked at Sideman. “Sir… is everything all right?” She was frowning in concern and wondered what was happening.

Bridie
CE

Looking over at Bridie Sideman replied, “Can you figure out why the helm will not work?”

Then he responded to security, “Take the Ensign to medical and see if they can figure out why he has a lag in his memory.”

At the same time Sideman thought to himself, ‘What the hell is going on?”

Michael Sideman, XO

Checking the helm controls would yield an access code entry screen. Bridie’s code would be rejected.

Security hauled Vulk away to sickbay.

-Fate

Bridie nodded and made room for the injured man. “Yes, Sir… of course.” Moving to the console, she set her box down and leaned over to tap in her access code. Denied. “Odd…” she murmured. She entered it once more. Denied. “Ok, that’s not good,” she muttered under her breath.

Moving across the bridge, she went to the Engineering console and entered the password once more to see if she could access her own department.

“Chief, we need to get things moving…do you know what’s going on or not?” asked Sideman.

Then looking over at the Science Station, he asked, “Scan to see if there is anything in the space around us that might just grab us out of warp like that. I need to be able to tell the Captain something when he asks” continued the XO.

Pressing a button in the Captain’s Chair Sideman said, “Bridge to Medical, please respond.”

Lt. Commander Michael Sideman, Executive Officer

Bridie would be able to access engineering information about the ship. All systems seemed to be functional.

Science would detect a small patch of radiation rapidly fading nearby as the only stellar phenomena that may have had any influence on their ability to travel.

OOC: To move things along, I am going to assume that this answer came from a NE Science Officer.

IC: “Very well, science take further scans on the stellar phenomena and use whatever personnel you need, but we must know what is going on. Engineering, do you have any further answers for me?”

Lt. Commander Michael Sideman, XO

-Fate

Stepping back to the helm, Bridie shook her head. “I’m not sure, Sir. I can’t seem to access Helm Controls. My codes are working for engineering.” She glanced at the others and then to Mwezi. “Wanna give it a go?” She hoped his worked. Cause if they didn’t, they had bigger problems.

Mwezi stepped over to check if his access code could crack the helm.

Mwezi, CTO

Bridie moved to get under the console and see what had been fried as Mwezi tried his code. If it did work, there were still a few fried wires that needed care. She worked on those and waited to hear the results from above her.

Bridie
CE

Mwezi’s access code would be denied as well. Upon physical examination, the console’s mechanism, seemed to be fine.

NE Gideon at science read out further scan results. “There appears to be some sort of gateway inside the radiation field. Most likely the source.”

-Fate

Responding the NE Gideon, Michael replied, “A gateway to where?” “I want more information on this event. Is there a center to it; does it only exist in our time? What more can you tell me?” “This is damn peculiar.”

Thinking for another minute, Sideman decided it was time to act. “Sound yellow alert…energize defense fields.”

Lt. Commander Sideman, XO

Peters didn’t have the authority to lock Mwezi’s security clearance out of the helm station. He thought for a moment, then pulled out his U.R.I. and checked it, pulling up NE Peters’ access codes and plugging them in, just to check.

  • Mwezi

Bridie slid out from under the console. “That’s strange. Nothing is wrong under there.” She glanced at the large lupine beside her. “Any luck?” She glanced back at the XO. “Sir… I’m not sure what’s going on, but nothing appears wrong. And yet mine and Mwezi’s codes aren’t working.” She frowned and watched Zi try something else.

Bridie
CE

All evidence showed that Peters had locked out even his own codes. Whose codes he had acquired and how, now a mystery. Yellow alert sounded as the shields went up. Science reported “Sir, it appears to go to a different… kind of space. Sensors don’t detect any matter, but objects are registering. I don’t know how to explain it.”

-Fate

“Commander…” Bridie glanced at the XO, “see if your commands work. And we will try them at another station as well.” She nodded to Mwezi to try the security station and she tried engineering and science to see if ‘anyone’ in ‘any combination’ could get access to the helm.

Sideman walked over to the controls and entered his command codes. “Come on give us control back” he spouted.

Lt. Commander Michael Sideman, XO

The doors of the central turbo-lift opened and William Grey arrived on the Bridge, as always he was fully-groomed, despite the fact that he had been asleep mere minutes ago. He saw the first officer had the Con and that Mwezi was there, neither fact surprised him as it was the Armory Chiefs shift tonight and the first officer would be called up during an emergency, the Fact that the chief engineer was there as well was an oddity. Without disturbing the other senior officers the young second officer quickly moved to his own duty station, replacing NE Fate and was brought up to speed. He examined the results of the scan of the seemingly impossible object. “My first instinct is that it’s out of phase” He explained to his junior officer. He turned his attention to Bridie who was busy trying something strange Accessing the helm controls “Marshal? What’s going on?” He asked quietly.

CSO, 2O

Bridie glanced over at Grey and smiled. “Well, in a nutshell. The helmsmen took a gun and shot himself without so much as a ‘boo’ from the security officer who apparently handed him the weapon without realizing it,” she raised a hand, “Don’t ask… not my department. But what IS my department is he apparently locked out the controls to helm before doing it. Including his own. So myself and Mwezi can’t gain access to helm. You’re free to give it a whirl, but I have the feeling something more here is going on than a simple one man mutiny and suicide.”

She nodded to the helm and went back to work trying to figure out how to get around it. Thinking out loud, she was murmuring to herself as the engineering systems flew by her. “So.. can’t actually pitch or yaw, but if I can get a hold of the engineering steps that do it…” she glanced up to tell the room, “Don’t panic, gonna see if I can maneuver us in any way from our current, static position.” She tapped out a series of commands that would make each individual step of a starboard turn occur. If she could get the steps to work on an engineering level it was more like reaching down and turning the wheels, versus turning the steering wheel.

Bridie
CE

William frowned at her description of events. If the two of them could not he doubted his access codes would have any luck, and added detriment was the fact that the first officer seemed to have issues as well. He, however, did try his luck with his codes just in case “If this is an issue with coding we might be able to bypass directly through the computer core.”

CSO, 2O

“Given our inability to effect the momentum of the Chernov, I think if might be wise to do an emergency shut down of the warp and impulse engines until we have control of our helm? A system reset of sorts.”

Mwezi, CTO

In response the Commander said, “I am not sure I like that idea because it would take our defense systems down and we are currently at yellow alert.”
