She winced slightly as he examined her but behaved the best she could. “We have behind a level 3 containment field. We need to either deep space it or science needs to take over. It’s feeding on a portable genny right now, but not sure how long that will keep it sated.”
Bridie suddenly sat up. “We need to get science to look at it first. We have to make sure we have a way to track it in case we don’t have all of… whatever it is.” The nurse had come back and was covering her hand in a gel whose cooling properties actually made her exhale in a huge sigh. “We have it contained, but it’s in a major section of corridor.” She hated it, but she leaned back in her seat, relaxing as the gel and bandage made her body tension dissipate. It hurt to be tense for that long.
Bridie
Mwezi seemed to be recovering, the regenerator was slowly working its magic to restore his skin. He was still out like a light, of course.
Mwezi
Kane tapped the comms on the wall [O] Sickbay to Security and Science. Alien life form found. Casualties reported after contact. Respond to containment area in Engineering. No physical contact, life form is especially alkaline and burns are probably. All responding personnel need PPE. No exceptions. Sickbay out. [C] and he looked at Bri. He was still not happy, but he said “How’s the hand?” he asked through gritted teeth.
Kane, CMO
[O]Kay[C] Was the only answer from the Science lab. A few moments later William arrived in Engineering. Across his shoulder hung a scientific tricorder in a black shoulder strap, his hand a silver briefcase with necessary equipment “Where?” He asked, his expression relaxed and his voice calm.
CSO, 2O
The folks in Engineering looked at the CSO with a confused expression. “Where what?” one of them asked, stepping over to help William while the others continued their work.
- Engineers
OOC: Kane is confused. The thing is in the lower decks.
OOC: I’m responding to the message “ Respond to containment area in Engineering”
HjorturOOC: I know you are. The containment area isn’t in Engineering. Kane’s comm message was wrong.
- MiriamA security Ensign entered the room following the CSO and looked around. Noticing William and the Engineer standing and talking, she stepped over to join them. “Sickbay said to come to a containment area in Engineering?”
The Engineering ensign looked even more confused, then stepped over to the comm. [O]Engineering to Sickbay, what are you talking about? There’s no containment area in Engineering, and both the CSO and a Security officer just showed up asking about one. Well, the Security officer did I have no clue what the CSO is here for cause all he said is ‘where’[C]
- Side Sim DM (kinda)
Bridie tapped her comm and frowned. =^=The containment field isn’t in Engineering. The Doc was mistaken.=^= She proceeded to tell them where the containment field was. =^=And be careful. Alkaline blood burns like hell on the skin, guys. I want maximum safety used while boxing this thing up. And it feeds on energy, so try not to give it a reason to leave the generator.=^= She laughed and looked at Kane, her voice dropping to a near whisper. “Slow down, love… I’m fine and so is Zi.” She knew his quick and incorrect comm was out of worry, and most likely anger, at her being hurt.
Bridie
The two NEs looked at each-other with an expression of understanding. NE Spanner gestured to the door. “Want me to come along?”
NE Bosk nodded slightly. “It wouldn’t hurt to have another pair of hands to deal with whatever this is. Chief, have you guys got any sort of containment… container that can hold onto something Alkaline?”
“Plus we need some Hazard suits. I think we have a few spares in the lockers here if you want to avoid the long trip back to security?”
Bosk nodded slightly. “Count me in. Chief?” she looked at William.
- Master of the Walls
William rolled his eyes, after all that grandstanding about competence and doing your job “Fine, just hurry” He said, his voice brimming with annoyance,
Not having heard the exchange, Bridie tapped her badge once more. =^=Grab my suit from my office locker, would ya? I’ll meet you there. Bring another acid reactant kit as well. We used up what was down there.=^= She looked at Kane and lightly touched his hand. “Look after Zi. I will be back.” She rose up not wanting to embarrass him with a kiss. Instead, her gaze lingered a bit longer on him than it should have. But this was one of the facets she loved about him. His gruff caring for those around him.
Bridie
CEKane tapped his own comms and said =/\= Belay that. CE isn’t going anywhere. Handle it, and take all precautions. Medical response team enroute. And if you aren’t smart enough to find an newly activated containment field on this ship, find someone who is before you mess with the thing. =/\= He then looked at her and said “Sit your butt down, Lieutenant. You aren’t going anywhere. You aren’t cleared. And you damn well know it. That hand will only hinder you. Sit.” and he pointed at the biobed and then moved over to check on Mwezi. On his way he yelled “EMREST activated. Go to the containment area and help those idiots not kill themselves.”
Kane, CMO
William clenched his teeth, he slammed the nearby Comms panel then immediately closed the comm “I swear to Sagan I’m going to kill that man” He said as he got dressed.
She didn’t move for several seconds, though it seemed like longer. “I can supervise, Kane. You know it. I need to be there with them. I’ve seen this thing move.” She moved towards the bed but only leaned on it. “They are going down there effectively blind. I need to go.” She was clenching her jaw. She would have balled both fists but the one wrapped up kind of deflated the look.
Bridie
CEHe spun and looked at her and said “You need to go. But that’s not what they need. They need people that are a hundred percent. You aren’t. So pull your head and do whats best for everybody, not just yourself. Got it?” and he turned to look at Mwezi’s vitals. “You do what you can from here. But you keep your butt on that biobed. That’s an order.”
Kane, CMO
Bridie rankled but she ‘sort of’ did what she was told. She would stay in Medical because he asked. But she walked over to his side and spoke respectfully as if he were just another officer on the ship and not her lover. “Permission to use your office monitor, Sir. To observe the team in the corridor and perhaps guide them as needed.” She didn’t look at him. She could keep the professionalism in her voice but not in her look.
She was angry. Angry because she wasn’t allowed to go. Angry because had it been any other Doc, she would have suffered the reprimand and left anyway. And angry at herself for being mad at the man who was not only doing his JOB to look after her, but did it out of a more personal feeling to protect her. She sighed without realizing it was heard by the man beside her.
Bridie
CE“No, dammit.” His voice was stern and terse, as it was with most patients pushing back against him. He turned and glared at her. “We need to monitor your vitals and you need to give the gel a chance to work. Now. Sit. Or I’ll have Bell restrain you. You want to keep an eye on your team, use the comms. Otherwise, be quiet and let me work.” and he turned back to Mwezi. Looking at the nurse, he said “Take a blood sample and then compare it to his last physical. We need to make sure he’s not taken on any kind of infection.”
Kane, CMO
She physically bit her tongue but then, a heartbeat later, turned and went to the biobed. She took a deep breath and sat on it. Laying down, she took a deep breath and closed her eyes a moment. He was doing his job… she had to keep reminding herself.
After she had composed herself, she opened her eyes and looked at her hand. She flexed her fingers the best she could and frowned. Yeah, she deserved it. At the time, she thought she was being safe. The trouble was, once things started sliding, and she wasn’t… she hadn’t changed direction. Something told her giving him a wide berth tonight was probably best. She sighed once more as she relegated herself to sleeping alone tonight. The bandages kept her hand from moving too far, but she relaxed back and kept her fingers moving. The gel was working but she didn’t want her hand stiffening up.
She tapped her comm on the panel above her head and called to the containment team. [O]It’s Marshall… what’s going on guys? I’m not gonna be joining you so I need you to walk me thru everything you do. Got it?[O] While her tone was light, the edge let them know it was an order, not a request.
She got back a report they were getting to the corridor and about to check on the containment field and the generator.
Bridie
CE
((Forgot comm was on wall, not badge))They had just arrived to the Containment area, William had decided to grab a handheld comm for this, he flipped the device [O]We’ve arrived, give me a situation report regarding this creature[O] He said holding his scanner in his right hand. [O]Preferably one that doesn’t include incorrect information this time[O]
CSO, 2O
Bridie sat up on the bed, displeasure bordering on anger on her face when she faced the wall as if in doing so she could actually look at the Science Chief. [O]There wasn’t any incorrect information passed at ANY time. So I would appreciate it if you didn’t insinuate there was! [O] She took a moment to wince as she accidentally clenched her bandaged hand too much and too quickly. [O] Mwezi and I were tracking a power drain and opened a couple panels to trace a residue that seemed to be on some of the power conduits. When we got to where you are, that … creature, was discovered. We coaxed it out of the wall with the power of the genny. It’s drawn to power, has an alkaline based system that burns to the touch. So don’t get any on your skin. [O] Se took a breath biting back another snide remark about ‘misinformation’ before continuing. [O] And it clings to walls and ceilings, so check REALLY good for it before dropping the containment field. It surprised us. If you can get it into some kind of container and away from that hall, we can finish repairs. [O] She had been about to sign off as she had another thought. [O]And read the walls… make sure we don’t have a mate, or the other half of that blob still wandering the units and ship.[O]
She leaned back on the bed and sighed. She hated waiting and not knowing. It was up to them, now.
Bridie
CENEs Spanner and Bosk looked at one another, then at Grey. Spanner attempted to scratch his nose. The hazmat suit didn’t allow that. Bosk shook her head at the Engineer, then readjusted her grip on the containment device they had brought with them.
She started setting it up near the containment field. Said containment field contained the aforementioned generator, along with a gross grey sludge that responded to the presence of the trio by trying to push up against the containment field but being zapped back.
Spanner took his tricorder and scanned the thing. “It’s definitely Alkaline, just like the Chief said. It’s got a particular EM signature, we can probably scan for that.”
- Wall Master (WM)
William half raised his scanner and started the general scan cycle “Set up some lights as well, I want visual confirmation alongside our scanners.” He told the NE’s. He looked at the creature, so far it didn’t seem to run on anything more than instinct which could work in their favour.
CSO, 2O
The NEs got to work, setting up the scanners and checking along the walls. “Picking up trace amounts, but the scanner isn’t picking up anything nearly as large as the main mass in the force field,” NE Spanner commented, looking at the weird thing.
It didn’t seem to react any further, giving up on trying to get at them and kinda settling in the middle of the little area it had.
Wallmaster
William studied the being for a moment “Alright, let’s get a sensor analysis on the genetic and physical makeup of the creature, from that we can design a containment vessel for it. And prepare for a secondary and tertiary force field, especially if we decide to engage the creature” He set up his own scientific scanner and aimed it at the creature, starting a more specific cycle looking for what materials it was made from and what materials it secreted. With his right hand, he flipped open his com [O]Grey to Sickbay, Kane do you have any samples of whatever it was that injured our people? Leftover genetic materials in their wounds or something similar, if not then I’ll need to gather samples.[O]
