Kane barked at the nurses and medical staff. “Get that gurney ready. Bell! Check that vacuum dressing and make sure it doesn’t get jostled while we take His Higness to his quarters. Conrad, I swear to all the gods above if you so much as think about giving him a glass of water I will wear your guts for a hat. He just had abdominal surgery. Think, man! And I don’t care that he out ranks you. He can order all he wants…” and he looked at Taggart and grinned wickedly, “… Right now he’s just a poor widdle baby all hurt and mending.” and he made crying motions at his eyes before laughing. “Oh, Taggart… remind me never to get hurt enough you have to be my attending. Just let me die.” His voice was his typical sarcastic harshness, but another doctor would recognize there was a high level of professional care in what he said… just not how he said it.
