Main SIM- Taggart in sickbay

Posted by Lieutenant Solomon Kane (Chief Medical Officer) in Main SIM- Taggart in sickbay

Posted by Lieutenant Junior Grade Brigette Marshall (Chief Engineer (CE)) in Main SIM- Taggart in sickbay

As Kane materialized he would see his trained crew cutting and removing the captain’s medieval clothes reveling a very nasty long sword wound that was ran straight through his midsection and before the sword was removed, it had been twisted the other way making the wound even worse. There was massive damage done to that area.

He was extremely pale and his breathing was so shallow that he couldn’t do it anymore and the put him on a ventilator, not only for surgery but for his very life.

There was two small punctures wounds on his neck where his artery would be and it was oozing blood. There was actually a lot of blood but hardly any coming out of him.

Kane’s team was cleaning the surgical area when he arrived and were trying to get Captain stable for surgery.

Kane stepped forward and began removing his dirty medieval garb and dropping it on the floor. “OK! Containment field up, environmental systems on line and air scubbers at 100%. I want a transfusion set up and eight units of blood typed for Taggart. Synthetic blood volume expanders on IV full open. Get that wound clean and the surgical suite ready. Anesthtazine, knock ‘em out. He wont want to be conscious for this next bit. I need gloves and gown and somebody spray me down, I dont know what kinda crap I got on me right now but I’m not going elbow deep in his guts till I’m sterile. AND LOCK DOWN THOSE DOORS, DAMMIT. FULL MEDICAL CONTAINMENT. There’s gonna be every freakin’ idiot trying to get in here to see what’s going on. NO ONE COMES IN. We’ll update every 30 minutes. Got it? And somebody find Doctor Creele.” and the staff went to work.

Kane was almost completely bare when a nurse came forward and sprayed a disinfectant all over him. Then came a gown and gloves and mask. The surgical suite was moved over Taggart’s prone form and the blood and blood substitute began to be circulated through his system.

Kane started with the abdominal wound while another doctor cleaned and closed his neck wounds. Looking at the scans and the wound itself, Kane cussed loudly. “It’s like somebody tried to kabob him. Ok… retractors and suction. Let’s get these bleeders sealed off and…”

It was a few hours later that the surgical suite was moved away. Taggart’s blood pressure was low, but was slowly rising, he had a few new feet of synthetic intestine, and a temporary colostomy bag. Kane had been meticulous about the external scar, nothing would show and Kane chuckled because he knew Taggart would be pissed he wouldnt even have a scar to show for it. “Ok. IV antibiotics and he stays sedated for the next twelve hours. After that, he can have visitors. Check the scans every ten minutes and makes sure those intestines hold. Open the doors. I’m sure people are pissed they couldnt watch.” and he left and went to his office, shutting the door.

Kane, CMO

Bridie had materialized on the platform in the transporter room and was grateful for it.

She immediately went to her room and took a shower and changed. She was pretty shaken from the whole ordeal. From killing vampires to runing from vampires and werewolves. She’d had enough for the day.

Once she wa showered she moved to the bed to tend to her scrapes and bruises. Her room’s medical kit was suficient for the cuts and scrapes over her arms and legs from the struggles on the cobbles. But her wrist was red and bruised and hurt a bit more than she anticipated.

It was middle of the night, unable to sleep, that Bridie moved to change and head to medical. Kane wouldn’t be there. She’d just ask about a pain and sleeping pill and an ace bandage. She could wrap herself and the pills would help her sleep.

She also needed to know the CO was still alive.

A few moments later, she walked into Medical and looked for the nearest nurse. A woman came up and Bridie spoke up. “I’m Lieutenant JG Marshall. Chief Engineer. I wanted to check on the Captain first, then ask a favor of a couple things if I may.” She was polite but there was a taint of fatigue on her words as she looked at the nurse. Her eyes and face gave away the ordeal she and the others had been thru.

The nurse looked at her and said “You first. What do you need? The CMO doesnt want people clamoring all over the Captain. Besides, he’s still sedated. So what’s the problem?” Her tone was friendly, but there was something in it that said negotiation was not an option.

NE Bell

She nodded and took half a step back in concession. “I don’t need to see him. Just let me know he’s all right. Please?” She took a deep breath. “He chose me to go with him when we all split up. I need to know he’s going to be all right.” She shook her head. “I need to know he’s not gonna die or be crippled because I was an inadequate partner.”

“He’s fine. Well, he will be fine. Mr. Kane worked on him for a few hours. He’s stable. Now… let’s take a look at that wrist, shall we?”

NE Bell

She wondered why the nurse would ask about her wrist till she looked down. She was cradling her left wrist in her right hand. Apparently standing there, talking, it began throbbing and the reaction was automatic. “It’s all right. Just sprained. I came to get an ace bandage. And maybe something for pain and a sleeping pill.” She felt the last almost come out a plea. “I don’t want the nightmare tonight. Please.”

Bridie
CE

The nurse smiled, but shook her head. “We need to take a look at it. If it is just a sprain, you’ll be on your way and we can do something for the pain. We just need to make sure it’s nothing more serious.”

NE Bell

Bridie smiled. “I know you have plenty to do. So, see?” she rotated her wrist, pain flicked on her face as she clenched her teeth. “An ace bandage and pain killer. And a sleeping pill is all I need. Then I can get out of your hair. I’m sure between the Captain and the others from the away teams, you have plenty more in more desperate need than me.” She hung her hand down at her side as if to prove it was ok. But her jaw was shaking from the strain that also showed in her eyes, despite the smile on her lips.

It had been hours and the sedation was wearing off for some reason. He was very groggy and didn’t open his eyes but heard Bridie talking to someone. In a very hoarse and gravelly voice he tried to speak but he still had the oxygen mask on and didn’t have the strength to move his limbs. “Just let her take a damn look.....” was all he could muster before grunting in pain.

Captain Chris Taggart CO

Kane stepped out of his office and looked first at Taggart and then the CE. “Bell.” and henpiinyed to Bridie. “Sort that out. If she says shes fine, fine. Send her on her way. But if she wants so much as a damn aspirin, she gets examined.” and he walked over to Taggart and looked down.

“Well, Taggart. You’re alive…barely. Next time, I’ll just let you bleed out for being stupid. Now… nighty-night.” and he pressed the hypo in his hand to his neck and triggered the dose of sedative.

Kane, CMO

Bridie growled slightly under her breath and looked at Bell. “Fine…” She moved to the nearest biobed and hopped up on it. “Let’s get it over with so I can get out of your hair.” The words clipped and aimed more at Kane then Bell. Yes, she would earn the man’s respect. But again, it wasn’t going to start today. No matter how good looking he was despite the hell they had just been thru.

As Nurse Bell began the exam, Kane came over. Through the cascade of hair, his glowering eyes held fatigue. He looked as Bell ran the scanner over the wrist. “Stop.” he said and looked close at the display. “Hairline fracture, right… there.” and he pointed. Bell looked at him and said “Good catch.” He looked Bridie and said “Lay down and get comfortable. Osteo regenerator will mend that in an hour or two.” and he moved to a medical case and withdrew the device and began programming it.

Kane, CMO

Bridie tried to look at the tricorder. Despite it not facing her, or being moved a moment later, she tried non the less. “No, I…” She bit her lip and glared at him. She waited till he had come back and looked at her and she finally laid back, her arm at her side. The anger was almost tangible in her face as she looked at him.

Something told her she was being punished. But as he moved up to place the regenerator on her, something made her pause. The fatigue on his face was more evident. There was a look to him that made her take pause. His gruff demeanor and harsh ways was part of something else. In seeing him like this, and how he had been on the planet, made her want to brush the hair from his face and watch him sleep.

She shook herself mentally and it came out as a shiver. She jerked her hand slightly as he was moving towards it. “Sorry....” she whispered and went still. And as he placed the machine on her, she whispered with equal softness, “Thank you, Kane…”

He was so close she could see that his hair, dark as it was, had colored highlights that gave it depth and life like no other she had seen. Probably cause it’s long… that’s all Bri she chastised herself and looked at the ceiling. But try as she might, she couldn’t help wanting to constantly glance at him as he worked on her arm.

He ser regenerator on her wrist and watched as it began to work. After a minute he said “Dont move. 2 hours and you’ll be done.” and he looked at Nurse Bell and said “If she gives you any grief, drug her.” and he turned and walked over to Taggart. Bell looked at the CE and said softly “I know it sounded like he was trying to make a joke. Trust me… he wasn’t.”

Kane looked over Taggart’s scans and exhaled slowly. His blood pressure was just a hair below normal and the wound and bag implant were stable. When her wrist is done, we can wake him up. he thought to himself. He went into his office and activated the comms. [O] Kane to Sideman. Taggart will be awake in a few hours if you want to talk to him. Out. [C] and he slumped into his chair.

Kane, CMO

She turned her head as he went back to his office. She was sad she couldn’t see him. She waited till the nurse walked off and slowly stood up. Cradling her left arm in her right, the weight of the machine tugging just enough on her wrist that hanging it at her side, hurt. She made sure she wasn’t being watched, and walked over to his office door. Leaning on the frame for a moment, just watching him, she finally spoke up after a couple heart beats. “You didn’t eat… did you, Chief?” Her voice was gentle, low and full of concern.

Bridie
CE

Kane looked at her for a long moment and then said “Get. Back. In. Bed.” and pressed the door control so it slid shut directly in front of her.

Kane, CMO

She had to back up or get caught in the door. “Stubborn man,” she murmured.

She looked around and went to nurse Bell. “Ma’am… I know I have to wear this another hour or so. But I can move if I keep it stable like this, right?” She had a different look on her face. This time the question was a serious one, not one looking to cause issues.

Bridie
CE

Bell looked at her and then turned and opened a drawer. She pulled out a slung and put it on the Engineer. “Do NOT leave Sickbay. And if that office door opens, your tail is in that bed. Got it?”

NE Bell

She touched Bell’s arm as the sling was adjusted and settled. “I want to go get him something to eat. He hasn’t since coming back, has he? I was there, Ma’am… we haven’t eaten since lunch.” A nervous glance back over her shoulder and she took a breath. Looking at Bell, she shook her head. “If I don’t get any pain meds or sleeping pills, I don’t care. Let me get him some dinner. Please.”
