((Rp posted to this point with permission, then played by respective characters))After a power fluctuation on the Chernov, Bridie went to investigate the location the computer said it had started at. Realizing the size of the wall panels that needed to be removed, she called on the aide of the one person she knew who could help, Mwezi. After removing a couple panels to chase what seemed to be a jellatenous substance that was on a few of the power lines, Bridie stuck her tricorder wielding arm a bit too far into the space of one and ended up with goo covering her hand. Originally, both thought it was a by product of whatever was feeding off the power. But then a chemical burn type itch started on Bridie’s hand.
Just then, Mwezi discovered the creature itself was an alkaline based ooze type creature and they decided to use an emergency portable generator from one of the nearby engineering repair lockers, to draw it out of the walls. In doing so, they then contained it in a force field. After administering a deactivating powder from a first aid kit to Bridie’s hand, they turned to see the creature was gone. Bridie lowered the forcefield to see if it had perhaps gone into the genny. Suddenly Zi pushed her from behind in time to save her from the blob falling from the ceiling. He took it on him, full blow and sent him to the ground. He rolled away, but the burning was already starting on his back.
They have it trapped, once more, behind a level 3 containment shield and have beamed to Medical to get immediate help for Mwezi’s back which is already receiving far more damage than Bri’s hand got.
- It was an average morning in Medical when the Transporter Room commed them. “Transporter Room to Sickbay. Two incoming for emergency medical transport.”
With that, Mwezi and Bridie appeared in the room. Bridie seemed fine outside of a painful looking redness on her right hand, while Mwezi was notably worse off, his back covered in a grey sludge that was slowly sloughing off. He had a painful grimace on his face, and the smell of flesh burning began to fill the area around them.
Mwezi
“KANE!!” Bridie called out. Her voice full of panic and worry as she helped Zi to the nearest empty bed. Her own chemically burned hand forgotten in the heat of the moment as she put him on his stomach and started rummaging drawers for a counter to the chemical burn on her friend’s back.
Bridie
The CMO and a nurse came running around the corner. Kane looked at both of them, then said “Take her there.” and pointed to next bed over. “Vitals and prep for burn debridement! Containment fields on both! Infection controls level 3! NOBODY TOUCH THEM! Mwezi! Bri! What happened?! What the hell is this?!” he yelled as they settled Bri on the bed and he moved over to Mwezi’s back.
Kane
Mwezi groaned slightly, closing his eyes and trying to block out the slowly intensifying pain. “Space… Creature. Draining power. Melted through the ceiling… It’s… Alkaline.”
Having gotten what he considered to be the most important details, he struggled against unconscioness, not wanting to pass out but finding it difficult to stay awake with the burning.
Mwezi
As more staff arrived, Kane said over the cacophony of activity “Alien life form! Prep for containment! Get me a gallon of salicylic acid and PPE! Sedatives for the big man here! Melorazine 20 megs! Keep him calm, manage pain! Make sure the CE doesnt have any parts of this thing on her! WHERE IS THAT ACID, DAMMIT!!” He shouted the last sentence as Nurse Bell came up with thick gloves, a white jug of a clear solution, and a face shield. On the cart she brought everything on was a large glass specimen container.
Kane prepped himself and took the jug as Bell administered the sedative to Mwezi. “Here, sir. This will help. Just stay with us. Mr. Kane is on it. You’ll be ok.” she said softly as the hypospray triggered against his neck.
Kane
She backed up to let him work and settled into a chair waving another nurse away. “I’m fine! It’s not on me. It’s contained, see to Zi,” She chucked her chin in the direction of the wolf man.
Bridie
Kane looked over at Bri and said “DO WHAT YOUR TOLD, CHIEF!” and went back to work.
Kane
Mwezi quietly let go as the sedative was administered, passing out. The last thing he did was look to Bridie with a whispered, “Better me than you.”
The alien organism wasn’t here in sickbay, but the residue it had left from falling on Mwezi was what was burning him. They’d contained the organism in the lower decks before coming here.
Mwezi
Bri growled back at Kane. She was glad Zi was out. This could get ugly and there were some human lessons her friend could learn without witnessing.
She let the nurse douse her hand and hissed as the cold on the chemical burn hurt like a second round. But she exhaled as the reactant did it’s work and got rid of what was left on her hand.
Bridie
Kane went to work. Slowly applying the acid to the substance, he started low and worked up, keeping the substance from sloughing off and doing more damage. After the substance was removed, he exposed flesh and debrided the wound of any skin remnants and foreign material and rinsed the area with a neutral solution.
Once that was complete, he looked at Bell. “Keep him out. Dermal regeneration protocols and antibiotics regimen for the next 7 days.” and he started removing his mask and gloves. Check the wounds every thirty minutes. Once the regenerator is finished we’ll wake him up. Should be…” and he looked back and estimated how long it would take, “… five or six hours. And he’ll need a hell of a stylist to try and hide those bald patches, that’s for sure.”
He then went over to Bri. He looked pissed… but there was a foundation of something else only she would catch. “Ok. Wanna tell me what the f÷×! happened?”
Kane
She glared at him. Her body stiffened and she looked at him long and hard a moment. His defense to pain was anger. She she couldn’t exactly shove him down and make him stop growling at her. So she just took a deep breath, calmed down and reacted back. “I was working what does it look like? There was something happening that kicked off the last power fluctuation. I’m sure you all saw its affects down here.” She nodded to the bay and those in it. “I was getting a tricorder reading when my hand bumped into something. It seemed like a benign residue to begin with.” She looked down unable to keep up an even partially mad voice at him. Between the hurt and the relationship, she couldn’t. Her voice slowly dropped back to normal.
“We got the portable genny to try and draw it out and realized, too late, the residue was the creature. My hand started to burn and then… then things went sideways. It disappeared from the bait we had set. We figured it had escaped the forcefield and dropped it hoping, too, that maybe it was ‘in’ the genny an we could air lock it. But then Zi shoved me down and when I looked up, he was covered in it. It had been on the ceiling.” She shook a moment in memory of it covering him. “He rolled out but the deactivator was all used up on my hand.” She looked up at Kane. “We were being safe… I swear it to you. We had no idea.” She winced slightly as she realized she couldn’t raise her hand to him like she wanted. She cradled it back in her lap
Bridie
Kane glowered at her and then said “Here, let me take look, dammit.” and he looked at the burned hand. It was red and swollen, but the burn was superficial… unlike Mwezi. He looked at the Ensign near them and said “Dermaline gel. And antibiotics. Wrap up the hand and she’s good to go.”
He turned back to her and said “So what? Now we gotta design a glove for protection against weird, alkaline slime creatures? And where is the damn thing now?”
Kane
She winced slightly as he examined her but behaved the best she could. “We have behind a level 3 containment field. We need to either deep space it or science needs to take over. It’s feeding on a portable genny right now, but not sure how long that will keep it sated.”
Bridie suddenly sat up. “We need to get science to look at it first. We have to make sure we have a way to track it in case we don’t have all of… whatever it is.” The nurse had come back and was covering her hand in a gel whose cooling properties actually made her exhale in a huge sigh. “We have it contained, but it’s in a major section of corridor.” She hated it, but she leaned back in her seat, relaxing as the gel and bandage made her body tension dissipate. It hurt to be tense for that long.
Bridie
Mwezi seemed to be recovering, the regenerator was slowly working its magic to restore his skin. He was still out like a light, of course.
Mwezi
Kane tapped the comms on the wall [O] Sickbay to Security and Science. Alien life form found. Casualties reported after contact. Respond to containment area in Engineering. No physical contact, life form is especially alkaline and burns are probably. All responding personnel need PPE. No exceptions. Sickbay out. [C] and he looked at Bri. He was still not happy, but he said “How’s the hand?” he asked through gritted teeth.
Kane, CMO
[O]Kay[C] Was the only answer from the Science lab. A few moments later William arrived in Engineering. Across his shoulder hung a scientific tricorder in a black shoulder strap, his hand a silver briefcase with necessary equipment “Where?” He asked, his expression relaxed and his voice calm.
CSO, 2O
The folks in Engineering looked at the CSO with a confused expression. “Where what?” one of them asked, stepping over to help William while the others continued their work.
- Engineers
OOC: Kane is confused. The thing is in the lower decks.
OOC: I’m responding to the message “ Respond to containment area in Engineering”
