The Mess wasn’t crowded, but it was mostly full. As they rounded the corner, Kane scowled and said “We need more places to eat on this ship.” Looking around, he found a table and led her through the room to the table by the window. The two of them together drew looks and some whispers, but they made it to the table relatively unscathed.

She smiled and nodded. “We tried that, remember?” She laughed and moved to sit at the table, trying her best to ignore the looks.

“I think it was working. We only needed minor medical intervention and the cleaning expertise of a forensic team. We should have stuck with that.” and he glared at a particularly stare-obsessed table and said “What? You never seen people eat before?!” and then he… took her hand in his and turned back to her, ignoring the rest of the room.

She laughed. “Sweetheart… I don’t think they’ve seen you eat before… with a woman.. who’s smiling in your company.” She laughed and held his hand, her thumb lightly rubbing over the back of his hand. “Tell me what you want, I’ll go get it.”
