Deck ten to deck five had never seemed like a long trip… till now.

Brigette, the Chief Engineer, was helping a a young Ensign to sickbay with a plasma burn on his right hand and wrist because he had refused to spend twenty minutes putting on protective gear for a five minute conduit replacement.

She walked into medical and half shoved the Ensign towards the nearest bio bed and shook her head. His whining getting on her nerves. “Well, you should have worn the gear,” she murmured for the umpteenth time.

She leaned back on the wall and crossed her arms as she waited for the Doc to finish whatever he was doing. She was in no rush and while it was a burn, it wasn’t serious enough to warrant interrupting the man.

CMO Kane came out of a curtained off area and saw the pair at biobed three. Looking at the injured man, then to the CE, then back to the injured man, all the tattooed man said was “Really? Again?”

Brigette remained silent as Ensign Jodders shook his head. “Look, it’s not that bad this time. I wouldn’t have come if the Chief hadn’t been worried.” He glanced at her like it was her fault. “Just had to change out a bracket. No point getting all gussied up. The burn will heal in a couple days.” He flexed his hand but the pinky didn’t quite respond all the way.

Kane knocked the man when he said “Mot Dat Bad… Mer mer mer.” and then reached out and smacked the back of the injured hand, eliciting a howl of pain from the man. “Oh, yeah… not bad at all. You’ll be right as rain… once I figure out if I have to cut your d%#n pinky finger off, you idiot. What is this, like four times you’ve been in here because you refuse to your job the right way? And then you being stupid means I have to now take time out of my day to try and fix you?! And I know you are just gonna go back and do it all over again in a few weeks, and all this time and effort is for nothing. So, yeah… tell me again Ensign how this isnt -” and his fingers mad air quotes, “- ‘as bad as last time’.”
