The turbolift doors opened and the hustle and bustle of the bridge could be seen and heard. Chris smiled at Crelle and waved his hand forward indicating that she can get off and explore on her own. Chris walked behind her.Crelle’s blue eyes went wide, taking in the bridge. A real bridge, full of life and activity for the first time! Crelle smiled, and thought that a simulation just didn’t seem to express the feeling a working bridge gave when you stepped in for the first time.
Captain Chris Taggart CO
Mwezi stood on the bridge, just behind the Captain’s chair. As was his usual spot. He was a tall being, seven feet tall, and had a lupine-humanoid build. He wore Security colours, and the stripes on his arm marked him as a Lieutenant. “Captain on the bridge!” he announced as Chris stepped onto the bridge. As per protocol, he then saluted, happy to see that several of the ensigns on duty stopped whatever they were working on to briefly salute Chris, then each returned to their work. Mwezi smiled slightly. “Good to see you, Captain. I see we have a new crew-member?”
Crelle’s spine straightened and even her tail stood at attention as the large lupine humnanoid made his announcement, mostly out of instinct, and partially out of suprise and fear at seeing sich a large canine humanoid. After the initial shock wore off, Crelle realized that the Captain had walked in BEHIND Her, and had to have stepped off the turbolift after her new friend exited. Following the looks and salutes of those on the bridge, Crelle moved to adjust herself to look at and salute the Captain… only to relize that her friend was the only one behind her.

Chris smiled. “Good to see you as well Lieutenant. And yes we have a new crew member. This is Ensign Crelle. She will be in medical. Ensign Crelle this is Lieutenant Mwezi the Chief Weapons Officer. If you ever want to find me when we are not on the ship or Galdor, then all you have to do is find him and I’ll be in his shadow.”
Captain Chris Taggart CO
The sound that came out of Crelle was so high in pitch it was nearly unable to be heard by human ears. The pirate.... the man in the councelor’s office who looked like he was on vacation. Her friend. Mr. Pirate was the captain, and Crelle could not have been more embarassed. She couldn’t call him Mr. Pirate. Oh no. Internally, Crelle was screeching in panic, but somehow she managed to keep it hidden as she calmly turned to her Captain and the Lieutenant.
The lupine-humanoid Tactical Chief was decidedly not human, and the painful wince on his face made it clear that Crelle’s screech had been heard. Loud and clear.
“Thank you… Captain..... It is a pleasure to meet you Lieutenant.”
Crelle extended a small hand, somewhat embarassed of what felt like the mile high difference in height between herself and the Lieutenant as she kept eye contact. She planned on shaking his hand vigorously and as if she was his height, and decided that the panic she felt at treating the Captain casually would have to take a backseat for now. First impressions mattered, and for better or for worse, this would be hers for most of the bridge crew.
Crelle, Ensign
The Lt. did not return the gesture of a handshake. His hands, clasped behind his back, did not unclasp from one another. “It would do you well to learn and practice the proper greeting towards a superior officer, Ensign. And to research the identity of your Captain before joining a ship,” he spoke, unimpressed. His ears twitched slightly.
Lt. Mwezi, CTO
Crelle didn’t need to be trained in psychology to understand the Lieutenant’s feelings towards her. Retracting her hand and mimicking the Lieutenant’s body language, she leveled her blue eyes at the lupine and made her feelings clear as well. She held no feeling whatsoever in her gaze and spoke as one should to a superior officer.
“Understood… Sir.”
Crelle desperately wanted to explain that the Captain had purposefully mislead her in a joke all his own, but that would not negate the valid point that the Lieutenant made and the thought burned her like a slap to the cheek. Fun loving as her Captain is, that does not give her leave to behave in the same manner and she should have known better. Does that mean that the non logical part of her understood that the lupine in front of her wasn’t a complete jerk? absolutely not. But she didn’t need to be friends with him. Just work with him.
A smile crept across Crelle’s features at the thought. A lupine and a feline that didn’t like one another. She would not give the captain the satisfaction of the joke that created.
Ensign, Crelle
OOC: You just joined and already know me!
Mwezi then turned on Taggart. “And you, Captain. It is clear that you have not been entirely open with this Ensign. I understand that you may find it amusing to play your jokes, but it is not appropriate to deceive an Ensign or any new crewmember regarding your identity,” he added, surprisingly turning around and defending Crelle.
“On the contrary Lieutenant. This was not a joke. I was in the office getting another charger for my PaDD when she came in. She assumed I was the counselor and never asked me for my name. I thought it wise to teach her a lesson in assuming. People get hurt when we assume things. I hope that she learns to ask more questions especially when a person is not in a uniform and in a bare office.”
Crelle was taken aback by this turn of events. She was surprised that not only had she been called out by a higher ranking officer but that that same officer also felt secure enough to do so to the Captain. Then again, she remembered what the Captain was currently wearing and felt less worried for the Lieutenant.
He then added to Crelle, having noticed her response to his refusal to shake her hand, “I shake no hand, Ensign Crelle. My species does not have a hand which is conducive to comfortable handshakes with humanoids.” With that, he unclasped his hands from one another and brought one forward, showing her the longer fingers in a slightly odd shape… And the lack of a fourth finger on both hands.
Mwezi, CTO
Crelle felt shame burn hot in her cheeks. She assumed the worst of the Lieutenant and didn’t give him the benefit of doubt, instead assuming hostility. She chastised herself for allowing her own ignorance to form her opinions, and nodded in understanding, taking in the lupine’s hand and then meeting his eyes once more.
“I apologize, Sir. That was conduct unbecoming of an officer to assume. And you are correct in my behavior towards our Captain. Regardless of deception, it is my own fault for not having done the proper research. This will not happen again, I assure you.”
“See that it does not,” Mwezi spoke, but his voice was not harsh. He seemed to have a small smile on his face still, although it was hard to tell unless you noticed the twinkle in his eye. “Do not take it too personally either, Ensign. Everyone makes mistakes.”
Crelle gave the lupine a genuine smile and stepped to the side so as to get out of the Captain’s way towards the bridge.
“Captain, with your permission I believe I am needed in the sick bay.”
She still felt shame at the back of her mind given the situation, but mostly she was just embarrassed. The entirety of the bridge crew had witnessed her embarrassing display. Crelle hoped for something to sink her teeth into research wise at her station or for a very sturdy punching bag at the gymnasium later....
Crelle,Ensign
“No. Sickbay can wait. You still have to check in with me since you’re already here. Come to my office Ensign Crelle. Lieutenant Mwezi, you have the con.”
Captain Chris Taggart CO
“Yessir,” Mwezi said with a simple nod, slipping around to sit in the Big Chair. He had been standing in front of it before Taggart had stepped onto the bridge. He enjoyed the sounds of the bridge, he found it relaxing. “Captain, are you aware of how long we will be docked before our next mission?” He asked before Taggart left.
Mwezi, CTO
“It shouldn’t be too much longer. I’m going to check while in the office. You know how to undock if you’re still up there?”
