The young woman who walked into medical wore the uniform that showed her as the new Chief Engineer. She had a small smile on her face as she looked around.

Brigette was glad to have found a new home. The last place had started to grow stale after 4 yrs. She was hoping a deep space stationing would help ease the itchy feet she had to do something different. “Hello?” she called out softly to see if anyone was around. It was late, near the end of second shift, but she didn’t want to wait till morning. She may miss the Chief Medical Officer, but she could always meet them another time if they weren’t around.

(fixed uniform error… my bad)

A blonde haired, blue eyed human male came from around the bend of the central hub of the room and said “Hello! Can I help you?”

Able, Assistant to the CMO

Bridie turned, “Lieutenant JG Brigette Marshall. I’m here for my check in, Sir…” She moved towards him with a sure step and a smile.

At that time, a new figure came into view. The man stood slightly higher than average, but was very well built and muscular. That was where his looks stopped being normal. His hair was not combed, and fell almost to his shoulders in a wild brownish-blonde mane… save for the left side of his head which was shaved almost to the skin. His shirt was opened at the collar, and the visible skin was decorated in multiple tattoos of varying ages and qualities of work. In fact, even the man’s hands were covered in tattoos. Multiple scars and small holes in each earlobe testified to the past of being pierced. His eyes, strikingly blue, were half hidden by the falling hair. If it wasn’t for the uniform, no sentient being would equate the figure with an actual Star Fleet officer.

“Kane. CMO. Sit over there - ” and he jerked a thumb in the direction of an empty biobed, ” - and I’ll get to you in a minute.” He then turned and glared at the first man and said “Get back to it. No patients for you, Mr. ‘I Don’t Know My Analgesics From My Anti-Inflammatories’.” and he went back into the office and grabbed an older model tricorder and made his way to the bed.

Brigette’s eyes rose unbidden in an appreciative glance. After a quick recovery, she looked up at his eyes and where they had roamed to silence the man she had been speaking with. “Yes, Sir,” she murmured and moved to hop up on the aforementioned bed. Watching the assistant get sent away, she then focused on the Doc.

Her hair was tied back in a coil on the base of her neck and her uniform was neat and in order. She knew better than to show up in less than her best, and Medical was no exception. Her jaw tighten a moment before she forced herself to relax. This was nothing new to her and she knew that everyone was different. And she didn’t just mean of the alien variety. The Engineer Chief sat in silence and waited for Kane to be finished with his reprimand.

Kane didn’t acknowledge the junior doctor, and played little attention to the new CE. He scanned her and compared the results of the portable scanner to the biobed, and then set the older tricorder to the side. “Allergies, injuries, changes since last exam?” he asked in a tone that seemed to indicate annoyance. From his appearance to his bedside manner, he was the least ‘doctor’ of any Medical officer most people encountered.

It was one thing to be professional, another to be nearly cold and bordering on dismissive. Brigette opened her mouth before thinking. Sarcasm seeped into the edges. “Allergic to work, injured sense of welcome, and relocation discomfort from re stationing. Anything else you want to know?” Her fingers dug slightly into the biobed as she at least had the foresight not to cross her arms over her chest in total defiance.”

Other than the usual childhood illnesses and a sprained wrist and healed cracked ribs from several months ago that she had cleared before leaving her last ship, she was in fine condition.

Without missing a beat, the gruff… almost feral… man spoke without looking at her, just at scan results. “If you’re allergic to work you shouldn’t be an Engineer on a star ship. I’m not the welcome wagon, and get used to it. There. All issues addressed. Anything else?” He looked up at a bed monitor and made a final note on the PaDD, and then looked at her, his arms crossed on his chest.
