Crelle was excited beyond belief for her first day out of Academy. The weather of San Francisco was lovely, but the humid summer months on campus played havoc with crelle’s snow white, fur covered body. Even though she kept her fur trimmed short, she was happy to finally be on the climate controlled, colder atmosphere of a ship. For once, Crelle’s skant uniform didn’t threaten to choke her under oppressive heat and she walked with a spring in her step. Long, slender tail swaying slightly behind her, Crelle schooled the slender features of her feline-humanoid face before flipping the switch attached to the wall outside the councelors office. Her voice matched her face in its youthfulness, a trait Crelle hated but tried to mask as she forced a tone of authority over the comm.“Ensign Crelle reporting for my pre-duty check in.”
Crelle, Ensign
“Come in”. Said a tall man with one eye and the other covered in a patch. He was not in a uniform and was wearing jeans and a Starfleet medical Polo. “Greetings. How are you doing today young lady? What can I help you with?”
Captain Chris Taggart, CO
Crelle had to stifle a giggle at the man. She felt bad, but he looked like a comfy pirate that showed away on the ship. He was super tall with kind eyes at least, or Crelle might have run for the nearest comm and called security. Instead, she raised a small hand in greeting and smiled, entering the room.
“Hi there! My name is Crelle. Im a new member of the crew here for an evaluation.”
Crelle, Ensign
The 6‘2” in man with one eye and thick raven black hair smiled back at her. “Is that so. We welcome aboard madam.” HE said as he bowed at the waist. “Are you here to see the Captain or the Counselor? Have you seen anyone else yet?”
Captain Chris Taggart, CO
When the friendly stranger bowed, Crelle wasn’t sure if she should be mad or giggle. She settled for a mild pout and stuck her tongue out at the man before her.
“Im not some kid princess you know! And nope, no one as of yet. Youre my first co-crewmember!”
Crelle made a show of straightening her back and presenting a faux all-business demeanor as she continued:
“Thank you in advancd for your guidance, Sir!”
With that Crelle snapped a little salute and finally let out the giggle she had been holding in.
Crelle, Ensign
“Well I apologize. I meant no disrespect. Just trying to be friendly. SO please have a seat on the couch and we will begin.”
“Why did you join Starfleet and more importantly, why did you join a battlecruiser?”
Captain Chris Taggart, CO
“Oh…”
Crelle lifted both hands palm up in the classic display of ‘no problem’ as she continued:
“Please dont apologize. I was just messing with you a little. I don’t mean to be rude, but you honestly put me at ease somewhat. I got lucky! My first coworker seems down to earth. Can you imagine if you were the CAPTAIN? I would keel over where I sit I swear.”
“That would be something! I’m just a down to earth type of guy. No need for pomp and circumstance all the time. We work hard here and play hard.”
Crelle giggles at the thought before continuing to answer.
“As for the ship, I chose it for two reasons. The first reason is because of the ship’s reputation from Academy which seems to rival the Enterprise itself which is quite a feat! The second is because as you can tell… I’m what Earth originators would call ‘the runt of the litter’.”
Crelle gestures broadly to herself to signify her height and slender build in order to further explain.
“My family is very close knit and we span generations to a single home, as is our customs. But our ancestors were warrior....caste? I suppose that would be a proper analogy. But I hear this is the battle ship that trains and hardens its crew! So I couldn’t NOT choose it really.”
Crelle, Ensign
Chris frowned and got serious. “No one. And I repeat. No one is thr runt here. Never think of yourself like that. Period. We are all built for a reason. You can fit easily inside a Jefferies tube to get to a injured Engineer and I couldn’t. We ate all useful in our own way.” Then he went soft again. “I am glad that you have that attitude to better yourself. It is true that we train hard on this ship, more so than others, because your life and the life of others are in your hands. We see constant combat and first contact accounts that I’m sure you’re aware of. We do not tolerate half ass attitudes on this ship. So I’m pleased so far, that you’ll fit right in. Do you have any questions for me?”
Captain Chris Taggart CO
Crelle felt heat rise in her cheeks and into her tuft covered ears and for once she was thankful for the gentle fur framing her face. The councelor’s words were kind, and it was the first time such had ever been spoken to her. In her family, while close, ribbing was and is a constant, which doesn’t always breed confidence. A sense of pride also began to form as the man explained further about how the ship demands excellence. This was her home now, and with each moment she grew more fond. With a warm smile, Crelle continued:
“No questions for me! I honestly thought an evaluation would be more.....question-y? Not that i’m complaining at all… But what about you? Have I passed muster?”
Crelle gave a grin and held eye contact, happiness and excitement dancing in her blue eyes.
Crelle, Ensign
“Yes you passed Ensign. All the others will have lots of questions for you. I just judge if you should be here and I think you should. Would you like for me to escort you to your next location?”
Captain Chris Taggart CO
Crelle pops herself from the chair with a graceful little hop and straightens herself before smiling at her newfound friend. Tail swishing happily behind her, Crelle responded:
“I’d love that! I studied the schematics and remember most of the ships layout but I just know I’ll get lost. That, and honestly i’d like the company.”
Crelle, Ensign
“Well I am heading to the bridge. Want to see it?”
Captain Chris Taggart CO
Crelle’s blue eyes go wide at the thought as shs stares at the councelor.
“Can.... Are we allowed to just wander up to the bridge?”
Crelle catches herself staring and quickly looks away as she feels heat rise in her face.
Crelle, Ensign
“Of course we are. Well I am. I’m a senior crew member. It’s no harm in showing you around, plus you have to do shifts on the bridge, so you might as well see it.” With that he picked up a PaDD and started walking towards the turbolift.
Captain Chris Taggart CO
Crelle fought the urge to bounce with excitement and rushed to the man’s side, tail decidedly set straight so that she could tromp happily to the tubolift with the councelor.
