On scans NE Useful meanwhile was hastily powering up the shuttle and taking off on his own a moment after the away team vanished a hasty comm of his own came in. =/\= Hey don’t leave without me! =/\= the somewhat scared NE said.

David entered the bridge, feeling distinctly unhappy about the way he had been recalled. “Does someone want to tell me how we missed giant werewolves on our scans, but we know about the native architecture?”

Chris got up from his chair and looked at Mwezi and forced himself not to smile. “Well hello to you as well. They just appeared. Just like that camp of people a mile from you. When I saw it I informed you. I’ve had science check and recheck the scanners.”

Chris looked at Mwezi. “You see Lieutenant. You see how scared they were when they saw the werewolves? Now think back to almost two years ago when I first met you. See. I didn’t over react.”

He looked back at Commander Malkin. “So what happened out there? Why did those werewolves attack you?”

“We were making our way from the landing site to the nearest road. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Then… eyes appeared. Like you hear about in stories around a campfire. Started as red eyes in the trees and then what appeared to be werewolves emerged and braced for attack. Blaze did manage to piss one off with an arrow.” David sighed. “Are there any sensor dark spots? Anything that looks natural even?”

“Fascinating!” Chris replied. “Indeed that is some scary campfire tales there. And none that I’m aware of. Science is rechecking the sensors again. I’ll let you know more when I do.”

“So you say Dr. Blaze managed to hit one with an arrow but all it did was make it even more mad? So when we go back down there we will have to have bigger and stronger weapons and armor it appears and still not break the prime derective. This will need some more planning.”

“I don’t know if you’re aware Commander but I have a very keen interest in anything macabre and horror related. Assuming these things are really werewolves and not just something that takes the form of someone’s fears. Then could they be affected like Earth lore werewolves by silver and the like? Did anyone get any readings or data from them before you were beamed back?”

“Kane got at least a partial scan.”

“Excellent! Have it analyzed right away. Top priority.”

“One other thing concerned me greatly Commander. The way the werewolves moved on you. It looked liked they tracked you, set up an ambush and when they went after you all, it was not a frenzied beast but a well thought out tactical plan to flank you all and trap you. These things are very smart. I bet we’ll find out if they can make and set traps too. I wonder what else is out there? But we’ll find out later when we go back.”

“They are at least natural predators, if not intelligent. They seemed to be using their apparent stealth as their primary tactic.”

Maybe but define natural in this instance Commander? We don’t know if they were human or some other being before the chance or they are really just a species of Lupine here like our own Mwezi here. We need to stop thinking that these are Earth folklore. “

“Well. Every carnivore and omnivore has some predatory instinct. Could be highly evolved. Especially given their appearance… if they exposed their position too early, their prey would run. So it could be an evolved part of the hunting instinct. Hide and strike when they’re close. If we are to assume that these are just bipedal wolves.”
