After coming to terms with his surroundings William stretched to his full height, placed his hands behind his back and thought a moment “Statistics like that only mean anything within the context of where they are taken, your assumption is that they are working with Federation Statistical numbers to prove some hypothesis. This is more reminiscent of an actual intelligence test, I don’t want to make any early assumptions but it would fit” He turned back to the Captain “So long as we start by sticking to one side, use Trémax’s Algorithm provided we have some way to mark our journey. Provided this is a simple science experiment that should be enough to lead us out of a maze eventually.”

Chris blinked. “Um. Sure. I think I left my chalk in my other leg. But I guess you’re right doctor. We will just have to do the best we’re can. We could use blood as a means of marking but I’d like to find something else first. ”

“I have an eidetic memory.” Reid said. “I’ll remember every turn we take.”

“Let’s go people. We’ll beat this test and then return the favor. “

Reid looked around the room one last time before they left. It was oddly well prepared. Either someone had been hunting or they had known where the Chernov was going to be. This wasn’t an impulsive blitz grab. Reid didn’t want to wonder if they were the first to take these tests.

“I’m glad you have an eidetic memory doctor but the rest of us don’t. What happens if our hosts take you from us or you die? The rest of us still needs a means of finding our way around. Is there something that can be used as a marker around here?”

Reid slid his boot off again and made a deliberate attempt to scuff the wall and the floor. “Mark every room we’ve been in.”

Keali smiled as Alex left a black smudge down the side of the wall. He might be socially awkward and difficult to talk to but she was glad they had him on their side. “Excellent idea Dr Reid, good work!” she concluded as she looked to the Captain for the order to move out.

The scuffing of the boot left a small impression on the wall. Now they just had to decide which way they were going to go, left or right. Hopefully it would be soon because the air was a bit chilly with just standing around here.

Dr. Blaze was still looking around trying to find something interesting to look at

Wherever they were was particularly clean and spic/span so there was no rocks to find.

IC: “Yes. Good work Dr. Reid. Like I said three other times before, we are going to the left. And when we are just standing around, I suggest you all move around to stay warm. I don’t want any of you to succumb to the cold. Engineers, look for panels or something of the kind. I find it hard to believe that there are no wires around.”

“There’s definitely a monitoring system. And we all heard audio messages. Possibly life support and environmental control. I agree we move ahead. Dr Blaze, you take the left side of the tunnel, I’ll take the right. Search for panels, switches, anything as we go.”

“I believe the Captains directives were not to split our crew up any more than we already have” The young Scientist said “Out of a crew of nearly five hundred there’s less than ten here. The whole group will go right Lieutenant” Will managed a half-smile at the Chief Engineer.

Deggur stayed silent as he watched the exchange. It seemed as if some tempers would flare, and he resolved not to get into any arguing matches himself, hoping that they could all work together to get out of this damned place. He was starting to feel claustrophobic, even though there was plenty of space to move around…

Walking down to the left the corridor curved first to the left then banked a hard almost 90 degree angle on a slide like approach the slide curved around in a circle to what seemed a large open room based on the foggy outline they could see through the window in front of them. Those with keen hearing could also hear what sounded like a snuffling grunt or growl from below perhaps it was hard to make out though exactly what was making it.

William cocked his head to the side at the slight grumbling sound “You must follow that sound through the windings of the labyrinth, and, by and by, you will find him.” He said looking at the group with a neutral look.

Not understanding the deeper meaning behind the words, Deggur took it as an order. “Affirmative, sir,” he said as he cocked his head to listen for the growling, uncertain which way it would take him…

OOC: The growling came from somewhere at the bottom of the slide i mentioned is your character taking it?

Reid looked awkwardly at Deggur. “That’s a quote. It’s said to Theseus in the Ancient Greek myth of the Minotaur. It’s most commonly read in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Tanglewood Tales.” instinctively his hand slid back to reach for a tricorder he had when he was still in engineering. He almost laughed at himself for the mistake.

Blaze Herd him talk about Ancient Greek myth “ Actually I believe we are in a labyrinth. And there has to be a secret to this maze”

Keali tensed as she heard the faint grumblings from the distance. She said a silent prayer that wherever Alex & Lia had found themselves that they were faring better but she trusted Alex to look after them. As they cautiously made their way down the tunnel she looked around for any clues as to where they were or who had taken them.

William jumped forward and grabbed the Orion’s shoulder “Calm yourself” He looked at Reid with a half scowl “Remind me to assign you some Earth Literature, Ensign” He said looking back at his Officer “Captain!” He called back “We found a slide and it appears to be hungry” He said without a trace of comedy in his voice.

Reid wondered what he had done wrong this time. Deggur had been confused. It was understandable, given his heritage, that he wouldn’t have read the book. Reid thought he was simply clarifying.

“Dang it! Define hungry?”

“Ok. I need a volunteer to go down and check it out. First check to see if you can grab the sides of it or use your feet to either stop or slow yourself down.”

Reid knelt down and felt the surface of the slide and the interior walls that surrounded it, searching for handholds, grips, anything to create friction and slow them down. Maybe even control their descent.

The slide tunnel was quite smooth, while it might be possible to slow down by friction it would take quite a bit of time once one got going. As if sensing the presence of Reid or smelling him the growling/snuffling/grunting got louder though didnt seem to rise up through the tunnel.

Taiya peered cautiously into the tunnel as well before surveying the rest of the team and taking a deep breath. “I’ll go,” she replied resolutely, although the look on her face was almost one of surprise as she spoke.

At 5’6”, she was by far the smallest of the group and simple physics dictated that she would have more chance of being able to slow herself down.

“I’m the smallest here, in theory I should move a little slower,” she concluded. “And if the tunnel narrows I’ll stand more chance getting through. Besides which, my telepathic abilities will give me an advantage and I can always call for help,” she added, sensing some of the male members of the team’s protector instincts kicking in. In the back of her mind she also wondered if Alex and Lia might be down there.

“The tunnel surface is smooth. If you’re going down there, try contacting the rubber soles of your boots to the walls. It should provide friction.” Reid said.

As she crouched down then hung her legs over the edge with nervous anticipation, she looked back at Chris. “Orders sir?” She asked, with a slight quiver in her voice, mostly to give herself a few seconds to get her nerves under control.

Reid followed her gaze back. The XO was the likely candidate, at least to go first.
