Chris was still unsure in his new office and was up to the task but still felt uneasy about how he made Captain. Seeing his mentor effectively being downgraded to his XO for some mission left a bad taste in his mouth. He wondered if after the mission was completed, would be be made the XO again or transferred to a new ship as their captain or stay here as the captain. He hoped he could stay here.

Sitting at his new desk he looked around and found the PaDD with the crew roster. He remembered that he made Lt. Givens the acting CoS but he needed an actual CoS. He liked Givens and knew she would make a fine CoS but he felt it would interfere with her Intel duties. He had one person.....er being in mind but he was a loan officer. He would have to get permission from both governments. He decided to get permission from Galdor first.

Pressing the comm toggle at his desk he said in a flat and even tone. [O] Ensign Mwezi. The Captain needs you in the ready room.[O]

He sat back and waited for the big lug to come. He wondered what his expression would be when he finds out that Chris is actually the captain now.

OOC: I figured since we are waiting for things, I’m going to proceed with this as an after action from my promotion.

When he wasn’t on duty, one of Mwezi’s hobbies was to train in the gym area of the ship. Most days, he would get his blade and find a suitable training dummy, or use the various phaser training targets on the walls to refine his aim. Today, he had accessed the weight-lifting area of the gym and was lifting. With over two meters of height and quite a bit of muscle, he could lift quite a bit. He was glad there were provisions made for beings such as Vulcans and himself, who could lift more than other beings.

When he got the hail, he was lifting quite a heavy load, so he didn’t immediately reply, letting himself put the weights down carefully before he stepped over to the comm box on the wall. [O] I will be right up, sir, [O] he spoke, then grabbed his shirt and pulled it back on. His tongue lolled out of his mouth as he made his way up to the ready room, cooling him down.

Soon after the response, the chime on the door to the ready room sounded, notifying Chris that the security officer had arrived.

“Enter,” came the reply of someone not Vulcan behind the door. As Mwezi entered Chris got up with his new shirt on showing that he was Captain Chris Taggart now. He put out a hand for Mwezi to shake and smiled. “Please have a seat Ensign. ” He gestured towards the one in front of the desk and he went back behind his desk and sat down. Normally he would be there with his guests but he couldn’t use the comm from there.

Mwezi looked at the outstretched hand for a few moments, then blinked once or twice. “Hmm, I thought I had mentioned to you…” he stopped, staring briefly at Chris’s new shirt. “Ah, congratulations,” he muttered quietly. He didn’t finish explaining that the Laleri did not shake hands with humanoids due to the physiological differences making handshakes somewhat uncomfortable for both sides. It also wasn’t a thing in his culture to shake hands. (OOC: as the race has been in development for a while, this was not true in the past but is now)

“Ensign Mwezi. As you can tell a lot of things have happened in a very short time. I am in need of a new Chief of Security. I understand that you’re an officer on loan and can’t technically hold a rank above Ensign or be given a Department Head role. I have been thinking about that and since you are my first and last choice for this position, I need to call your government. I would like you to be here when I do so as not to offend anyone and help with translations and customs. Plus it concerns you. “

Ensign Mwezi sat down on the offered chair and listened as the former XO now Captain spoke. He quietly nodded, understanding Chris’s words. He was surprised and honoured by the offer, and took the matter seriously.

“I want to promote you and make you one of us officially. But that again requires both our governments and more importantly, your consent. What do you say?”

“I appreciate the opportunity, sir. I would be honoured to take this promotion and position of a department head, given the permission and approval of my superiors on Skybase. You will probably want to ask for Controller Miv, as she is the Controller in charge of interplanetary military operations during this cycle,” he suggested.
