Kastarak had summoned T’sol for a meeting to discuss her role on the ship. When she had arrived, she had asked why she had not been named second officer, as was the Chernov tradition for chief science officers, since mid-2266. Now, nine years later, Kastarak had broken that tradition, citing that she was still not well acquainted with the crew.

In the two months since her arrival, Kastarak had seen progress. She had used her free time to help out with duty rosters, ensuring smoother operations.

It was time to reconsider her role.

He waited for her to arrive at the summoned time.

T’Sol had heard that she was summoned and she was not sure how come. While she was walking from her station she had then took the nearest lift by her to meet the captain in his ready room. The lift had haulted at deck 2 which was unusual for her as she has never been through deck two. She had then stepped out of the lift and started to walk and ended up finding the captains “ready room” and rang the chime. She stood there awaiting to enter.

“Enter,” Kastarak said succinctly. There was always something demasking and honest about meeting other Vulcans. Kastarak did not need to use cognitively taxing measures to try and understand the other, be “nice”. All he had to do was to show respect, be succinct and use a logical continuity in his reasoning.

He rose as T’sol entered, nodded lightly with his head to show respect, and acknowledged her presence with her name. “T’sol.”

“I appreciate your coming at such a short notice. Your latest work with the ship’s duty rosters has increased my confidence in your shipwide leadership abilities. I should like to be able to rely on them in a formalised manner. As such, I hereby offer you the option to immediately combine your position of chief science officer with that of second officer of the Chernov. “

T’Sol looked at him as she thought to herself. “Captain. If you’d like to hear my logical answer to this. The logical option of combining both is a very logical. I am and willing to do sir.” She replied.

“Understood, second officer T’sol.” Kastarak said, confirming the additional role. “Do you have questions or other comments?”

She stood there with an everyday look. “Not at the given moment. Except I did see from my predecessor that he was a rank. I know I would have to work to get there. Of course, no hurry or rush on it either.” She added.

It was clear to Kastarak that T’sol had ambition. She was not subtle about it. Kastarak respected that. He knew where he had her. At every given turn.

“When our mission is over, the first and second officers will with me consider any promotions for the officers under our collective leadership and my command. I do not see a reason to make promotions mid-mission. Regardless, only two people outrank you on this ship now: the first officer and I.”

“Your comments on this, second officer?”

“Acknowledged.” He said succinctly.
