Lieutenant Junior Grade Koycheva Olesya Nikitovna (Asya to those closest to her) was on a shuttle heading to her new assignment as Chief Weapons Officer on the USS Chernov. She had been on the USS Cydonia for years and was personally recommended by Captain Greseth and Lt. McIntyre for this position. As the name implied, she was Russian, but wasn’t necessarily completely cold to others. She just didn’t take any nonsense and could be a little blunt at times. But she was looking forward to leading the Security team on the USS Chernov. She’d heard great things about this ship, after all.

The driver of the shuttle turned to Olesya.

“We’re preparing to dock, ma’am,” he said.

Olesya nodded. “Да. Thank you,” she said, getting all of her stuff together. She looked down at the carrier that held her orange cat, Dima. “We’ll be there soon, my little меховой комок,” she said.

The shuttle landed without incident and standing in the bay along 10 others was a tall man with thick raven black hair wearing a Hellraiser T-shirt and blue jeans. He had an eye patch over his right eye, a cybernetic left arm and a cybernetic right leg that you could not see. He waved at you as you exited the shuttle. “Hello and welcome....”. He looked at the PaDD again in confusion…”Lieutenant Olesyaaa....Koycheva?”. He butchered it he knew. “Sorry.” He said sheepishly.

Olesya snickered a bit, speaking in a slight Russian accident. “It’s alright. You were actually right on the money. You must be Captain Taggart. Nice shirt, by the way. My father introduced me to Hellraiser. Nothing after the third one, though. That’s when it started going off the rails,” she said, stepping out of the shuttle.

Soon a group of off duty, security officers led by Ensign Forster where jogging through the ship. John was busy cheering on the officers, encouraging them and jogging with them. Anyone watching can see the bond he has with the other security officers. John was unaware about the arrival of his new boss, but he had a job to do to keep the officers motivated and keep them all in shape. He enjoyed the work. It was weird that the captain asked him to handle things with what happened to the last chief armory officer

Kastarak, wearing his standard uniform of black trousers and gold shirt, had had been quietly observing the interaction. To him, Olesya was an interesting character to Kastarak, peppering her language with Russian mannerisms, and with a clear personality – firm, yet amiable. Seeing at the same time Ensign Forster’s exercise run, it concerned Kastarak that Forster had not been informed of Koycheva’s arrival.

“Welcome aboard, lieutenant. I am lieutenant commander Kastarak, first officer on board this ship. I look forward to a fruitful cooperation and to making your acquaintance.”

He saw the little carrier in her hand, understanding that there was a small animal there. Curious, he thought, that she had been given clearance to bring it aboard. He looked at it, bending his head in the direction of it.

“A cat?” he asked, unsure of his designation of the animal was correct. For one, he had not had much experience with Earth animals, and, secondly, it was hard to clearly see the animal through the carrier. Yet, cats and dogs were statistically speaking the most common species of humans, and Olesya, she was a human. Asking her this was a way for Kastarak also to establish some kind of rapport – in his awkward Vulcan way.

Kastarak then called over John Forster and the security officers. “Ensign Forster, come over! Bring the security staff with you!”
