After the fact that Sara was relieved of duty she had decided to go and talk to the captains. However, she knows that at this point she doesn’t know what she is supposed to do. Sara is a little upset with herself but the fact that she did get relieved from duty she’s unsure what she should do. She feels like if Pawl were to give her original position back or if Sara should be on the bridge and be the helmswoman. She feels like that maybe she is unfit for duty and she should talk to Chris about it. Sara wants to get a second opinion on the situation.

Chris was going over the crew roster when he heard the chime. “Come in!” He yelled while not looking up from his work. “Please take a seat and I’ll be with you shortly.”

“Yes sir.” She walked in and entered the room and sat down. While being unsure what to do or say to him because of her mental state. However, she knows that it might end up going onto her medical record or not.

Working a few minutes longer he smiled as he sent in his last report and closed his PaDD while looking up. “Oh! Miss Lovejoy. What can I for you?”. He then noticed her posture and eyes. “Are you ok? What’s wrong?”. He said in a sympathetic way.

“Sir I feel like that I’m not fit for duty. The reason is, I’ve had an argument with Commander Kastarak, and was sent to my quarters. I feel like as an officer, that I should be confined there until further notice. It is also cause of my telepathic ability that can get into the way. In the best interest, I feel like that this is necessary only because I cannot control my telepathic ability and I wanted to see what you had to say.” She then started to explain it to Chris only because she knows that she should be relieved of duty until she can figure things out. “However, Commander Kastarak also had said that I am also emotionally compromised. I know that betazed is just new to the federation and I know I don’t know the federation procedures about me being full telepathic and constantly able to read how people feel and everything. I just feel like it’s in the best interest that I should be in my quarters till it’s done. I know that as a Betazoid and Commander Kastarak is a Vulcan, I might’ve spoken out of line.” She started to explain more to him in depth only because she knows that it’s for the best. Her emotional attachment to people made it difficult for her to concentrate on her work, not knowing what is to come. A tear then started to fall from her eye because she’s afraid that Commander Kastarak doesn’t quite like her. At the same time she did spoke out of line to the Commander and herself and Chris both knows that she is a good officer but being told that she is emotionally compromised made her think to herself that maybe she is and completely unfit for duty.

“Sir I request to be relieved until further notice is the reason why I’m here sir.” She said with another tear falling.

At this point, Kastarak buzzed the door. He did not know that Ms Lovejoy was seeing the captain, only that the captain was there. He had just had a heavy conversation with the second officer, Mr Grey, and was convinced he needed to bring the matter up with the captain as well.

Chris just blinked at her. “Miss Lovejoy. I can’t just put you in quarters like that. I’d first have to talk to all the parties to see if it’s true and since this all happened yesterday,I haven’t got any reports of your actions or theirs. But from now on, your duties will only consist of being a helmsman and anything else is to be on emergencies.” He was about to go further when he heard the chime again.

“Come in.”

Kastarak entered. He hadn’t expected to see Lovejoy there. But when he did, he decided to take the opportunity to raise the question of the agenda immediately. He had no idea whether Lovejoy already had or not, but Kastarak needed to ensure his transparency to all parties.

“Captain, Lieutenant,” he said as he said. “Forgive my intrusion, but I wish to raise a matter which concerns the two of you. Earlier today, I relieved Ms Lovejoy of duty for the remaining duration of her shift. My assessment was that she required a so-called mental-health day before returning to her next shift. Thereafter, I have been advised that I may have myself overreacted, which is why I wish to discuss this incident with you both. If you will allow me to remain, we may continue to discuss this. If this is an inconvenient time, I shall schedule a meeting at a different time.”

“Hello Commander. I am fine with it. I didn’t know you uh well wanted to speak to both of us. Mainly me. I mean I know I might’ve said something or somethings earlier that was out of line and I apologize for it. But I’m fine with talking about the situation.” She explained to the Commander with no hesitation.

Chris looked at Lovejoy with displeasure in his eye and frowned. It was his decision to make. He was going to allow it but still. Gesturing to a chair next to Lovejoy. “Yes. Please sit down and tell me what happened.”

“Sorry captain. I forgot that this is your ready room.” She said apologizing. Forgetting that she it was his room and not hers.

“It’s fine.” He said flatly. “Commander, please continue.”

What was going on with Lovejoy? Kastarak tried to understand her. She was an erratic enigma. It was as if she replied to subconscious cues or even thoughts that the captain emanated. Was she actively reading people’s thoughts? Surely, that couldn’t be right.

“Thank you, captain,” Kastarak said and sat himself down on the assigned seat. He looked at Lovejoy briefly, and then at the captain. After a short pause, he began:

“Earlier today, I arrived at Bridge. Ms Lovejoy and Mr Grey were there. I told Ms Lovejoy that it was good to see her on Bridge and asked her how she was doing. She replied she was doing well. At the same time, she emanated confusion, giving a confused look. I enquired about whether she was confused. She replied that she was not used to working without Mr Batario but that there was nothing to worry about. I did not understand what she meant, so I asked her to clarify.

“She then asked me how my request to clarify related to her feelings about Mr Batario. This confused me further, so I asked her to clarify.

“At that point, she used expressions such as as a Vulcan, you should know how people like me feel and, referring to me, you of all people have your emotions bottled up. I attempted to clarify why I expressed concern for her. I sensed that she was in a heightened emotional state. Her replied were erratic and nonsensical, and did not seem to answer any questions. As such, I was concerned for her. I asked her whether she was emotionally fit for duty.

“She replied, and I quote, I can tell that your feelings for him is the reason why your questioning my ability to do my job and my duty. Let alone, I have felt that you might be a little upset with me only because I might’ve ended up you know flirting with him. End of quote.

“My assessment at this point was that Ms Lovejoy was under a heightened emotional state that interfered with her ability to do her job. She was expressing conspiratorial words about my past relationship with Mr Batario, while I was concerned for her welfare. I decided that she was relieved from duty for the duration of the remainder of her shift. A mental-health day. I advised her to rest and seek out recreation as well as activites that would help her regulate herself. I also advised her to report to Sickbay should her emotional disregulation continue. She then left.”

“That is what happened. Ms Lovejoy, would you like to add anything to the narrative of the events on the Bridge?”

Chris pressed his lips together and took a deep breath and let it out. He wondered why Miss Lovejoy decided to come to him instead of doing what was told to her. Circumventing the chain of command was something that Chris detested. It broke down trust and communication. But he decided to not think anymore on what he was thinking in case Miss Lovejoy decided to read his thoughts without his permission and let his mind go blank after he calmed himself.

He then looked back at Kastarak and knew his XO was telling the truth because it wasn’t the fact that Vulcans didn’t lie. I’m fact he knew a bunch that didn’t. But he knew without a shadow of doubt that this particular Vulcan does not lie. Kastarak’s integrity and character is what made Chris realize that he was the right being for the position of Executive Officer.

He looked back at Lieutenant Lovejoy. She is not a liar either but she is mentally unstable at some points and he has in past not understood her rambling as it were. He remembered a conversation about two years ago in this very office with her, the female XO at the time and himself. He had to even yell at her to try to get it through her head about the importance of communication and again, not circumventing the chain of command. He closed his eye. Oh how he detested yelling, especially at crew and in anger. He took another deep breath and calmed himself again and wiped his mind clear again and opened his eye looking at her and awaiting her response.

“Yes it’s true. Hence the reason why I asked to stay in my quarters till I actually put myself into a better mental state of mind. If you have to go ahead and put me in the brig or demote me. Whatever works I’ll take whatever punishment. And no captain I’m not reading your mind at this point I’m done reading people’s mind at this point. Commander I do apologize for everything earlier. But I agree with you. I’m not mentally there or even aware of my mind and my telepathic ability.” She said and explained to both.

OOC: What are you actually trying to do with your character here? You’re not giving us any clues nor any choice. We don’t want you to be demoted or kicked off the ship. Please help us here.

Chris closed his eye again and said in a flat tone. “Lieutenant Lovejoy. The fact that I didn’t say anything and only thought it and you said that you weren’t reading my mind, means you were reading my mind. But let’s forget that for the moment. You’ve done nothing to be demoted nor to be put in the brig. The only thing that you’re guilty of is testing the limits of others patience. Which we’re all guilty of.”

“I am going to ask you a series of questions and would like answers to each of them. There is a PaDD near you too take notes if you’d like.”. His tone was professional and courteous but firm. He was not mad.

” First. Have you talked to anyone else about this before coming to me?”

“Second. If I recall. We had a talk a few years ago about breaking the chain of command. Did you break the Chain of Command by coming to me and not to the other people that Commander Kastarak told you to see?”

“Third. Did you just sit in your quarters until you felt better or did you do anything like Commander Kastarak asked you to do like hobbies, games and the like?”

“Fourth. What is it truly.”. He turned and looked at her directly. “I mean truly that you want. Not from us, but what does Sarah Lovejoy truly want either from us and or from herself.”

He stopped looking at her and looked outside his window towards space for a few moments before looking back at here. “To be frankly honest with you Lieutenant. I’m running out of options and places to put you. And if you want love, you can find it anywhere on this ship except with Pawl Batario, Kastarak, Quentin Dawson and myself. We are all off limits. Understood?”. He said the “off limits” part a little in harshly and he didn’t mean to. He then waited for her reply or for Kastarak to chime in with something.

She wrote on the PaDD of her answers. The answer to the first one was no, second answer yes she did break the chain of command. Third was just to sit her quarters till she felt better. And the forth answer was she doesn’t know. She had then passed it back to the captain and then spoke. “Sir with all due respect I have no hobbies or anything like that. I prefer to have my alone time in my quarters unless if I am needed. However, I do understand that you cannot afford to lose me or putting me in the brig I get it.” She said with a slight frown. “Honestly my empathic/telepathic ability is extremely difficult to control only because there are so many other people on board I can sense how they are all feeling. And what their saying. Not all of the members of the crew I can read except yours and Commander Kastarak but that’s about it.” She added but then she spoke again. “If it is necessary, I can suppress my empathic/telepathic abilities until you think it is absolutely necessary for me to use them.” She finally stopped talking only because she knows if she did that, then she wouldn’t know what to do with herself. But it is the only chance and choice. As a slight tear comes rolling down her cheek, she realized that she messed up. She had shut down and she had realized that she was pushing the patience on everyone. At this point she doesn’t know what to do. “So if that is all I’ll might as well go to medical and see if there is anything wrong with me and then back to my quarters. At this point I am noticing within myself, I am unable to function.” She has also said.

Very little in what Lovejoy said made sense to Kastarak. This colleague continued to surprise and confuse him. But her request for medical leave made sense. He quietly assented, waiting for the captain to make the actual decision.
