Nurse Sutalo had booked a slot for the captain in Sickbay, and arranged it also with engineering so that Mr Batario could join with his engineering expertise. Symar – the most senior medical officer on board with years of experience would lead the medical side of it all, while Batario would assist with his engineering skills.

The problem at hand was this: The captain’s bionic arm had de-attached during the Malone shooting. It was unclear whether the arm was damaged or not, or whether the violent de-attachment had caused neural damage.

Sutalo waited for Symar and Batario to join him in the private suit. Of course, he was waiting also for the patient. Just a few more minutes…

Pawl made it to medical area as he waited quietly for the captain. “Hello, Nurse Sutalo.” Pawl greeted softly.

Chris came in carrying his arm in his other hand and nodded to everyone present. “Mrs Sutalo, Pawl, Karstark.” He greeted them in order of him seeing them. “Thank you very much for helping me with my arm. Any help is appreciated.” He then walked over to the bed/table that they would be preforming surgery and waited.

Nurse Sutalo was concerned with Taggart’s greetings. Not only had he misnamed Symar as Kastarak, but Sutalo himself had become a “mrs”.

“Welcome, captain,” he said, “let’s start with a neurological scan to see how your nerves are doing.”

He picked up the tricorder and began scanning. If everything was fine, then the nerves would be fine for joining with the bionic arm.

The scan would show that the Captain was in a great deal of pain. But he wasn’t showing it. You can see it in his eyes though.

“Thank you very much.”

“Welcome Captain.” Pawl said with a soft smile. Pawl full well could feel the captain’s pain. “We’re here to help Captain.” showing no doubts in his voice. As he looked over the scans as they were being taken on the nearby display. Pawl wished he could help with his pain but that was better taken care of by medical personnel.

“Our first priority needs to be to get your pain levels down,” Symar said professionally, “Then, when you’re in a position to handle it, we reattach the arm.”

Chris nodded. “Thank you both. Please get started.” He said as calmly as he could.

Pawl took the time to review the arm to ensure it was in complete working order. “Your arm seems to be in Mechanical Order.” sir. Pawl said calmly to the doctor and the captain. Pawl wondered to himself. Why did the captain never consider the possibility of cloning a new arm? Pawl could still feel the captain’s pain. He could tell he was enduring a lot but not complaining.

“Replicating the limb seems to risky, we don’t want the body rejecting it.” Symar said, as if reading Pawl’s mind.

-Lieutenant Symar: Chief Medical Officer-

Chris looked at them both. “Pawl. I don’t want my limbs cloned. When I lost my wife because of that monster and almost died myself in the process, I never felt whole after that day since my wife died. I was a huge jerk towards women. You could say that I was a womanizer. I vowed from that point on to be better to women and myself. I kept the scars, missing eye and missing limbs as a reminder to let people like me for me and not my looks and to remind myself to not judge anyone. So, I’ll just keep the bionic limbs as I needed to have limbs to continue to serve.” He looked away from them a little ashamed but more so because he was remembering his wife.

“I understand sir.” Pawl said calmly to them all. PAwl was going to say more, but focused on what the scans were showing.

Symar rest his hand on the CO’s shoulder, “There are a lot of women on this ship that would serve under no one but you Captain.”

Chris looked up and smiled. “Thanks.”

‘We’d better scan your arm first, see if there are any faults I need to fix.’

There were a few wires that needed to be replaced as well as connectors since it was ripped off and not taken off.

“Sure thing.”

“You read my mind doctor.” Pawl said with a smile. Noting he was open and calm and sincere in making sure the captain got the best of care. Which he knew he would. As he calmly looked over the connections as the doctor was scanning. “How are you feeling captain?” Pawl asked him not trying to pry into his thoughts or feelings.

“I’m feeling better now that I was given medicine for the pain. Thank you Pawl. As a doctor I can easily prescribe my own medicine but since I’m the Captain, I just can’t do that.” He thought for a moment then continued. “Actually it’s not that I can’t but I won’t. I have to have a level head and if I get hurt or my judgement comes into question, than the good doctor here needs to know what I’m on. So I don’t get anything without first cleaning or with Doctor Symar. Plus I’d have to come in here and get it anyway and anyone here would tell the doctor, so I just go to the doctor.”
