In Sickbay, Kastarak was beamed down to the emergency biobed. He was alive but unresponsive on most accounts.

Nurse Sutalo was manning Sickbay, and immediately hailed for Dr Symar to attend. In Sutalo’s view, no one better on the ship would understand Vulcan physiology, especially head trauma, than the ship’s other Vulcan doctor.

While waiting for Symar, Sutalo performed the basic scans on the limp Kastarak. He also managed to stop Kastarak’s bleeding, though he had already lost a lot of blood. In fact, Kastarak lay in a green pool of his own copper-based blood.

Sutalo hoped this wasn’t the end…

Symar bolted through the Sickbay doors, equipment already in hand, ‘Report!’ He ordered Sutalo.

-Lieutenant Symar: Chief Medical Officer-

Chernov was running on a minimal crew. Only Symar was the attending physician. It was reasoned thus that even if Symar was incapacitated, there were two more able physicians on board, Kastarak and Taggart. Symar’s duty was heavy. Moreover, only two nurses were on board, head nurse Sutalo and nurse Zhang Jingjing. Nurse Zhang was a civilian nurse, and, thus, had certain freedoms other officers in Sickbay wouldn’t normally have. She didn’t have to respect the hierarchy as much as others, but at the same time, she was on the lowest rung.

Nurse Zhang ran into Sickbay, just a few seconds after Symar entered. Sutalo looked at his two colleagues coming in.

“Doctor Symar, Miss Zhang, patient is Kastarak, Vulcan male, aged 28, admitted in emergency due to head injury along the parietal ridge. Traumatic brain injury suspected, internal bleeding suspected. Scans show intra-axial lesions. Patient is unresponsive. Stable pulse, blood pressure is going down. Blood oxygen saturation is dangerously low. Your orders, Doctor?”

Before Symar could answer, the Sickbay doors opened up, and in came three new patients. An Andorian female with an injured antenna, supporting a human male who appeared to have a fracture in his left femur. There was also a human female with laboured breathing.

Zhang looked at Symar.

“Stabalise blood pressure and oxygen levels first, I will start working on dermal regeneration of the head injury once we know the XO isn’t going to flatline on us while we calm him down.”

-Lieutenant Symar: Chief Medical Officer-

“I’m on it,” said Nurses Sutalo, and headed back to Kastarak’s bed, and began his work. Kastarak wasn’t responding to Sutalo’s interventions, but at the very least he didn’t appear to get worse.

“Sir, should I check on the other patients, or do you need me attending to Dr Kastarak?” Nurse Zhang asked.

“Do what you can to assist the other patients Nurse Jingling,” Symar replied, trying to remain level headed, “If you need any assistance, I will be assisting Nurse Sutalo with getting our XO back on his feet.”

-Lieutenant Symar: Chief Medical Officer-

“Yes, sir,” Zhang replied, and headed out to check on the other patients.

Meanwhile, Sutalo was still struggling with Kastarak.

“I think he’s stabilized now, doctor, but he’s still unresponsive. But things are not getting worse. I’ve stopped the bleeding, cleaned him up a bit, and trying to do a neuro scan. But brain activity is really low.”

“I’m really worried, doctor,” Sutalo said, with exhaustion in his eyes.

He darted down the corridor heading to main medical are. A tap was heard as he almost hit the opening doors of medical. then stoped before finally entering the office. “Whats up doc.” he siad calmly as he could not trying to force to look at the biobeds.

William followed in just after Pawl and looked like a right mess. Most of his upper lip was covered in dried blood and he had stuffed his nose with cloth clearly torn off his uniform. His right hand was also covered in blood but had clearly been wiped on the front of his pants. He looked at the doctors treating Kastarak then at Pawl and raised an eyebrow at the Chief Engineer clearly curious why he was there but didn’t ask. Instead, he sat down in an available bed and winced hand going to his side but beyond that he gave no outward reaction.
