As Miss Lovejoy left the engine room, she was a little shocked about what had happened in engineering. She wasn’t herself but she had to stand up to Pawl against Malone. However, she isn’t so sure how the captain is going to handle it once she tells him. She felt that she allowed her personal feelings to get into the way of her duties and that she isn’t fit to be the chief engineer. She then started to head over to the captains quarters and was planning on telling him something that she might not be fit for duty. She then got to his quarters and chimed in. Wasn’t sure what to say but she is going to give him her report before retiring for the night.

Chris was making coffee in his little kitchen when he heard the chime. Who could that be? He thought. While he was pouring the coffee in his cup he yelled out.”Come in!” I’m a nice tone. He was finished with the meeting with Kastarak, Q and Symar and his face was starting to bruise a little and his black eye was evident.

Lovejoy had just entered and noticed that the captain was starting to bruise and has a black eye. “Captain are you alright? You look like you just gotten um well beaten up.” She wondered by whom? Was it the colonel who had beaten him up. “Sir the main reason why I’m here is because I know that Lieutenant Batario is the Chief Engineer but however, I feel like the way I stepped up was wrong. The colonel is a higher ranking officer but yet I got him to actually shut up. I mean honestly, I don’t know what I’m supposed to do now. Like am I a good engineering officer? Will I become a good chief engineer when I do get it back? I’ve been questioning myself since I got here. And I know you sir, you wouldn’t want to relieve me of my duties just because I stood up for a fellow officer let alone to a higher up.” She explained. Not knowing what she should do now. Could she still get her chief engineer spot back after this mission or be relieved of duty. She doesn’t know.

Chris stood in shock hearing this. Putting his coffee cup down on the counter he did the one thing that he could think of. He walked over to Lovejoy and hugged her tight and in a soft, caring voice,” It’s ok Sarah. No need to worry about anything. I’ll take care of it all. Malone was in the wrong. You did a great and noble thing by not only sticking up for a friend, but standing up against a bully. I’m very proud of you. You are a good officer and engineer. Don’t ever forget that.” He just stopped talking and helps holding her with one hand and used his other to rub down her hair from to top to bottom gently. (Japanese custom).

“Yes sir. But I also know it’s something I should’ve came and talk to you about. The fact that I did that let alone the clocking device specs and the installment, I don’t know if I’m even good enough to even command the engineering department. Sir.” She said with concern about herself. Thinking she’s not good enough to become what she was before.

Chris smiled and in a very calm and fatherly voice said, “Look Sarah. I was there and witnessed most of the exchange. I saw the aftermath and saw Malone push NE Williams and I…escorted Malone out and of the Chernov. That’s why I have a black eye. As far as you commanding Engineering, will. That’s another matter for another time. Pawl is Chief Engineer. I know we talked about it in the past that when and if he’s ready to step down for another job and only when he says that you’re ready (and if you post frequently) then you can have that job back. I do need a helmswoman though. Have you ever thought about being a swing officer? Work some days in Engineering and some on the bridge as a helmswoman?”

Sara then looked at Chris. After hearing that she was shocked. “oh um. I hadn’t thought about it. But I can do it. It sounds interesting. But however, don’t we have a helmsmen though?” She looked at him with a little sparkle in her eye. Not thinking that it was interesting at first but she knows if she did become a swing officer she knows she can do it really well.

Chris smiled again. “Of course we have people on the helm. But we need others to replace them for shift rotations, breaks, vacations and unfortunately when they are initiated or die. Crap happens out here all time and we’re a battle cruiser. So if you’re looking for something else to do then you’re more than welcome to do it. Plus you might end up liking it. Who knows. Now. Do you want a cup of coffee with me and we can go up to the bridge and I can tell you about the position?”

Sara had then smiled since the captain offered her a cup of coffee. “Yes sir. I’d love to have a cup of coffee. I’d also would love to go up to the bridge with you and hear about the position sir.” She said with a smile. However the reason she is happy to hear about it is because she’s been in engineering for so long. She thinks it’s time to have a change of scenery.

IC: Chris smiled as well. “Well. Once we’re done with our coffee and no hurry, we will walk to the bridge and I’ll show you what’s in stored. If you agree then I’ll give on the job training coupled with computer training (simulated, not real and you’ll pass), and simulations on screen with trained Helmsmen. It won’t take long and you can do both Helm and Engineering or one or the other. I’m very glad that you are at least entertaining this idea Miss Lovejoy.” Chris said as he took a sip of his coffee. “Mmmmm.”

“Well captain I know that if anything. Even though I have been through engineering I would like to have the ability to fly too. However, how would I know when I’m needed in engineering?” She asked him not knowing what would happen if she was needed to be in engineering.

Chris took another sip while listening to her. “Oh that is the easy part. You’ll spend half your work week in engineering and the other half at the helm. And if for some reason you’re at the helm and there is a major problem in engineering or if Pawl needs you, then you go to engineering. Simple as that. Any other questions?”

“No captain.” She said with a smile on her face. Looking at the captain acknowledging the position.

“Great! So what’s new in your life or what has been going on? You doing ok?”

“Yeah things are okay I guess. Only if I wasn’t so lonely in my love life. But you know how it is. Being single and all. But you know. Other then that things have been okay.” She said with a smile looking at the captain.
