Q had a PaDD under his arm and a serious look on his face. A few of the other crewmen he passed took notice of the difference in his demeanor. they had started to grow accustomed to his smiles and jokes as he passed through the halls. But now he was strictly business. He arrived at the Captain’s ready room, hit the door chime, and stood rigidly waiting for the captain to let him in. They had a good deal to discuss before they moved forward. He’d been doing his research on Klingon battle tactics and anything else Starfleet had on the Klingon Empire. Regrettably, there wasn’t much. He had also been pouring over the report on his sister’s ship that had gone missing. It truly was a mystery. No record of the ship’s discovery or capture. It had simply lost contact. After two months of radio silence, Starfleet assumed the ship was lost and had covered up the mission to avoid the Klingons discovering it. While he had liked that Starfleet had tried to reconnect for two months before noting the ship lost, that fact meant that his family had not been told what happened to Clarissa for two months. He had sent her messages during that time and she could have already been dead.
He couldn’t think about that right now. If he were to allow himself to be emotionally compromised, the Captain and Kastarak would have him removed from duty, and he couldn’t allow that. He had to be on this mission. Not only did he need to know, for certainty, what happened to his sister, but he had to be there for this crew. He couldn’t let them go off on this dangerous mission while he sat out on the bench.
They had a lot of work to do.
Lt. Q. Dawson, CWO
Chris was in his office looking at the big tank with an arm, leg and hand in it. Hearing the chime,”Enter!”. He said while going back to look into the tank.

Q entered and stood just inside the door. “Sir,” he greeted, “I’d like to go over the plans for our next mission. I’d also like to discuss how we will be debriefing the rest of the crew.”
He followed the Captain’s gaze to the hand in the tank. Morbid and macabre, it suited the Captain’s aesthetic for horror, an aesthetic Q believed contrasted his personality. Q waited for the Captain to speak and hoped he wouldn’t have to push this off.

Chris nodded and didn’t look at Q. Instead he gestured towards the tank. Do you know whose body parts these are in this tank?”
The hand belonged to my very best friend Kane. He blinked out of existence entirely right in front of me. I was holding onto his hand when it happened and didn’t let go of him. I fell to the ground still holding his hand but he was gone. It was heartbreaking for me. That happened a few years ago.”
The leg and arm are mine. I killed the beast that ripped them from my body and killed my wife. They were too mutilated to be attached. So I had them put in a preservation fluid and a tank made and brought them here once I got out of the hospital. I was this ships CMO then. When I returned I became the XO, then the Chernovs CO. I look at this from time to time to remind me of the troubles I’ve faced and never let them defeat me. Sure I was depressed but I’ve never waivered.”
He raked his fingers back through his thick black hair and stood up to look at Q in the eyes. “I presume it is akin to how you feel about your sister. We will hold a meeting after this with the senior officers and department heads and we will leave nothing out. Nothing. They all have a right to know what they will be risking their lives for. Now. What plans do you have so far?
Captain Chris Taggart CO
Q swallowed as he listened to Taggart’s story. He began to understand why the captain was risking so much on this mission. He knew loss deeply. Even deeper than Q did himself. He gave the captain a brisk nod and seated across from him.
“We, unfortunately, know very little about the Klingon Empire, but I have been cross-referencing what we do know with what is in the report on the Husqvarna’s disappearance. I believe Commander Grey will be invaluable in filling in some of the gaps, based on what I have heard of his experience with the Klingons. From what I have gathered, our best bet is to follow the Husqvarna’s route into Klingon space. they weren’t detected then and, as far as we know, have yet to be detected. If they were, we’d likely be at war now.”
Q brought up a map of the Beta Quadrant for Taggart to look over.
“Our entrance should be through the Vodrey Nebula here,” He said, “The nebula should shield us from any sensors pointed our way. There doesn’t appear to be much surveillance of the nebula as it is too small to conceal any large-scale offensive. We will be coming out between the planets Maranga IV and Gren-Ga Tharg. While Maranga IV is populated, Gren-Ga’tharg is in an ion storm, uninhabited. Our best bet is to fly nearer to the storm to further hide ourselves from detection.”
Q cleared his throat and continued, “Once we are past that point, the Husqvarna had lost contact with the Federation in pursuit of the cube. It seemed to be further into the ion storm, so we will need to prepare the ship for that kind of stress.”
“Those are great ideas and we’ll do them. We’ll have Grey devise a plan for the radiation.” He listened to Q as he went on.
Q took a deep breath, “Sir, would we be going on this mission if it weren’t for my sister? I know our orders do technically have us investigating this strange cube, and the fact that it was seen both at Equestria and now in Klingon space is very concerning, but would we be doing this if I didn’t have a vested interest in this mission?”
Lt. Q Dawson, CWO
Chris let out a breath he didn’t know he holding and looked him dead in the eye. “No.”. He said flatly. “There would’ve been no reason to after your sister or the ship. The case was closed and locked away. So we’re going to re-open the case on our own and face the consequences. So unless you have anything else, Meet me in conference room 2 in 30 minutes and you’ll go over everything with the assembled crew. And I mean everything. No one will be left in the dark for they’re risking their lives for you and your sister. Got that?”
