It was a very, very good feeling being onboard the USS Chernov again. The previous mission was very intense and Chris very much wished for the firepower of the mighty Chernov during a couple of those incursions. After compiling a bunch of food and drinks from various worlds and the high dollar kind at that, he sent off an invitation to the crew that helped him during the last mission to come and eat with him at his table, The Captains Table, in the Wardroom. It was a Naval tradition and one that is supposed to give the people coming, a feeling of great accomplishments. It is the very table that the Captain and the Executive Officer dine at. The invitation reads as follows:Dear [Insert your Name here] (Your name would actually go in there):
Captain Christopher Mortimer Taggart cordially invites you to join him and the Executive Officer T’Aria, at their table tonight. There will be all sorts of fresh food and drinks from around the galaxy to accommodate the feelings of a home cooked meal for our far off friends. Dress is Formal wear and you will be required to wear your Dress Whites with your medals. The Captain hopes to see you there.
Yours,
Captain Chris Taggart, CO
USS ChernovAfter reading it over Chris thoguht it was good enough to send and with Sega’a’s help, he would pull it off along with his own personal chef. Pressing the button to send out he closed the PaDD and went to his closet to fetch his Dress Whites and to make sure that they were right and proper for the meal.
After getting dressed and making sure that everything was in it’s place and his medals were polished and in proper order, giver that he and the others at the table acquired some new ones during their last mission, he stepped out of his quarters and made his way to the Wardroom. Stepping he could smell all of the foods and it made his mouth water just smelling them. He was not allowed to help in the kitchen. When he offered both his personal chef and Sega’a both said “NO!” at the same time like they rehearsed it. He was fine with that. Knowing that he would just get in the way or mess something up. He sat there, patiently waiting for the others to arrive.
Captain Chris Taggart, CO
Kastarak apparently was the first guest to arrive. While he did not have any medals to wear, this had become his first occasion of wearing his mess uniform, and he knew the honour bestowed upon him – a mere junior officer of lowest rank – to be invited to this kind of functioning.
He entered the wardroom, looking around, seeing no one but the captain.
“Captain,” he said, as in attention. “You have honoured me with your invitation.”
– Ensign Kastarak
“Where do you want the....” the chef inspected the dish, braised meat on a bed of par-charred vegetables and a thick, teal-tinged sauce whose subtle sweetness reminded them of uttaberries, “uttaberry-braised pork?”
“One moment,” Sega’a affixed edible flowers in vibrant shades of orange and yellow to redspice tea cake that he frosted with a vegan “buttercream” and candied orange garnish. He knew not everyone could withstand such a sugary dish, so he included miniature unfrosted cakes for his Vulcan friends’ delight. Well, tolerance, he supposed. Laying the last flower near the middle, he took a careful step back and turned to the chef, momentarily considering the dish. “Hmmm… let’s place that by the jumbo molluscs and smoked redbat.”
“You got it, boss!” They smiled and vanished from the galley in a blur of yellow fabric and wild curls. Sega’a liked them. They had spunk.
In the time alloted by Taggart, Sega’a carefully crafted a menu bursting with flavour and influence from every crewmemeber. Andorian. Betazoid. Human. Orion. Tellarite. Vulcan. He knew how isolating space could be. Even amid the chaos and good times shared with crewmates, it was easy to feel alone. Tonight, he wanted to provide a taste of ‘home’ while sharing the beauty of their comrades’ cultures and cuisine. He hadn’t much to work with and even less time, but he hoped he honoured everyone with his selections.
He started with appetizers, choosing a medley of Tellarite vegetables, which he fried and garnished with chives-like herbs and sweet chili sauce. He roasted some tomatillos, poblanos, jalapeños, and white onion from their recent supply run and incorporated some Orion spices for a twist on salsa verde, which he served with a torilla chips. Finally, he provided plomeek soup for those who appreciated more subtle flavours.
Sega’a hummed as he recalled the dishes on tonight’s menu. The main entre had been particularly troublesome. In addition to the braised pork, smoked redbat and jumbo molluscs, he provided a homemade chickpea tofu and tempeh. He also made an Andorian cabbage stew with essentially the “kitchen sink” of ingredients he had on hand. These ranged from squash and sweet onion to tuber root and beans. It reminded him, vaguely, of the “Three Sister’s Stew” Andreas prepared for him on their first anniversary. He intentionally added a frybread in his honor. Finally, there was a mushroom ragu for anyone looking for a warm, filling dish.
Sega’a lifted the redspice teacake he prepared for dessert, inspected it for the slightest smudge, then followed Taggart’s personal chef to the Wardroom. Despite his afternoon of work, his formal dress remained a pristine white thanks to his tattered apron and favourite cooking sweater. He entered just after Kastarak, who he greeted with an involuntarily wide smile, and nodded to Taggart. He didn’t have time to socialize just yet (there was still so much to be done), but he wanted his friends to know he saw them… and that he would come say “hello” soon.
Swiftly, as if he’d done this a thousand times before, he set the cake at center table and made his rounds to adjust plates and dishes until they fit his unique specifications.
— Sega’a
OOC: These are just the dishes I could come up with on a whim, feel free to add you own!!OOC: yum!
Chris got up and motioned with his left arm a seat at the table with his name on it. “Please have a seat and you are most welcome. You deserve it and might I add that you have honored me with your presence.”
“Thank you, sir,” Kastarak replied, as awkwardly any other Vulcan would.
OOC: Even you should have three medals by now, plus the one from the mission that we are doing currently.
OOC: Oh… hehe
The Captain sat back down and Kastarak could see the heavy rows upon rows of medals on his chest. One of them was the second highest award in all of Starfleet. Most he would recognize were from bravery and valor and a couple for being wounded. “Ah! Excuse me.” He motioned for his Chef to come out. “Bremer. Could you refill my glass of port and get young Kastarak here whatever he wants to drink while we wait for the others.” Bremer nodded and refilled the port in the Captains glass and went over to doctor. “What would you like to drink sir? We have ales, wines, whiskeys, juices and all from different planets, including the very rare ones from yours.”
Captain Chris Taggart, CO
“There has been something I’ve been wanting to try…,” Kastarak said after a moment’s thought. His gut reaction would have been to ask for water, but this was a special occasion and humans would appreciate choosing something more luxurious on an occasion as this. “A colleague in Sickbay recommended it to me. I believe it was called Seltzer water. We were talking about various tastes, I said I normally only drink water and tea, because I don’t like alcohol or sugar or fruity drinks. Then she said that I sounded like a man who’d drink Seltzer water. Might that perhaps be available? I’ve never heard of it before.”
Chris looked at him with a piercing blue eye and did not frown nor smiled. Just looked at him flatly. “Really? That’s it? All of this and more and you choose Seltzer water?” Then Chris smiled again. “Bremer. Can you bring me one as well. I would like to try it. Thank you very much.”
When Bremer returned with two glasses of sparkling water, Kastarak observed the contents suspicously. “It has bubbles, sir. What is the purpose?”
He took a sip and experienced the tingling tickling sensation in his mouth. Yet it was almost tasteless, just a slight hint of acidity.
“This is curious, captain,” he commented. “Why do people drink this?”
Chris took a drink and had a very disgusted look on face. He was trying to wipe his tongue dry from the taste. “I don’t think even a Klingon on death of honor would drink this crap! Yuck!”
Kastarak did not expect the captain’s reaction to be so strong. “I do not find it disagreeable, simply curious and somewhat strange. I shall keep drinking this.”
Pawl was finishing off his engineering duties as he headded off to his quarters to get freshed up. PAwl was wanting to check in with the captain he was told he was in the ward room he was not aware of anything special going on. As he entered the room to voices over lapping at times. Pawl stopped and moved to the side of the door a moment as the doors closed. “maybe some other time>” He whispered to himself. as he was turning to exit.
Lt Com. Pawl Batario - Engineering Officer
As Batario was about the leave, the door hissed open to reveal a Vulcan woman adorned in her dress uniform, the only hint of colour provided by the patches and medals aligned neatly on her left chest. Most were unassuming and awarded by Starfleet Medical. There was one, a small, poorly stitched patch with what resembled a steel redwood or rocket ship, that stood out. It didn’t have a fancy notation like “medal of valour” or “IDIC”, but it did have a pattern of black thread that looked like the letters of a name. T-L-U-P-A. At first glance, it didn’t seem to belong on a dress uniform, but T’Aria valued it enough to place it at the centre of her patches and medals for all to see.
“Lieutenant Batario,” T’Aria straightened her uniform and stepped aside to let him pass, “it is agreeable to see you tonight. Will you be joining us for dinner?”
— T’Aria
“I am not sure i am not sure if i am invited.” Pawl said feeling a majorly under dressed. Never seeing a dress white uniform before.
“Everyone is invited, Mr Batario, per the Captain’s request.” T’Aria lifted a hand in an invitation for Pawl to join her. “Shall we find a seat? Unless you prefer to change beforehand.”
“And yes it is aggreeable to see you to Sir.” Pawl said with a fleeting smile. “Very impressive as he saw her medals and other items on her uniform.
Lt Commander Pawl Batario - Engineering Officer
– Ensign Kastarak
T’Aria bowed her head in what could be described as appreciation, but made no remark about his compliment. Instead, she made an attempt as small talk, which she knew many of their crewmates preferred to silence.
“How are you, Liutenant?”
— T’Aria
“I am ok Sir!” PAwl said kindly to her. Still feeling underdressed in this room as the orhters paraded there white wares.
Lt Pawl Bataario - Engineering Officer
Chris saw Pawl come in with T’Aria and he did not care that Pawl was underdressed because he heard a little bit of the conversation and knew the circumstances. Standing up again. “Welcome Commander T’Aria and Lt. Pawl. Pleased to see you both. Well the good Commander has her meals here as well most of the time, but it is still good to see her. Join in and get your choice of drinks which are on that list and I will add that we now have Seltzer water added to it.
Captain Chris Taggart, CO
With T’Aria and Batario entering, Kastarak rose from his seat out of respect. He noticed Batario’s awkwardness of being underdressed, and T’Aria’s impressive array of medals, including her “special” one.
“Commander, lieutenant, it is agreeable to see you both,” he said.
– Ensign Kastarak (counsellor / physician)
“Oh and Seltzer water has been removed from the menu.”
Captain Chris Taggart, CO
Q had been in his quarters when he received the invitation. He had just settled down to read through a paper that was comparing techniques from Fiore’s Il Fior di Battaglia and observations of Klingon Bat’Leth fighting. However, when he received the invite he immediately left the consol and went to find his dress whites. Once they were located it was onto the Wardroom.
Q arrived briefly after Cmdr T’Aria and Lt. Batario. “Good evening, sir.” Q said stepping up to the captain, “Thank you the invite. I know I haven’t been aboard long and appreciate the chance to mingle a bit more informally with the rest of the crew, sir.”
-LT. Quenting Q Dawson (CWO)
“You are quite welcome Mr. Dawson. Please have a seat at the table behind your name and get some refreshments. Food will be out shortly. The orderly helping today is my personal chef Bremer and a very good friend of mine and great cook and listener Mr. Sega’A. Treat them with respect as you do me please as they are not orderly’s, they are just helping out.”
Captain Chris Taggart, CO
“Of course sir,” Q said giving a stiff bow before looking to find his seat. Once he did so he looked about to see who he was seated next do as he wait for one of the talented individuals the captain mentioned to come by.
-LT. Quentin Q Dawson (CWO)
“Mr Dawson,” said Kastarak as he saw the chief weapons officer. He rose from his seat out of respect once again. “Mr Sega’a is a good friend of mine.”
Why had he said that? Why was that important to point out? Kastarak questioned himself, tried to gauge whether any hidden emotions were lurking under the surface. A sense of protectiveness perhaps?
He wanted to see Sega’a. Where was he? Why was he not in sight?
– Ensign Kastarak (physician / counsellor)
Pawl kept quiet duing the barage of talk and banter between the other officers that were over lapping one another. When there was a free moment then he responded to them all. “Thank you for having me even though i feel ill prepared by the experence and proper attire.” Pawl said calmly to them all.” Nice to see you too doctor.”Pawl said with a straight face. Noticing all the new comers to the ship it was kinda overwhelming. New thought and ideas as he did his best not to pry into other new thoughts.
Lt Commander Pawl Batario - Engineering officer
“Pawl!,” Kastarak was almost exclaiming, and rose from his seat. “It’s agreeable to see you.”
– Kastarak
“Well Hello Doctor Nice to see you too.” Pawl said with a small smile.Lt Commander Pawl Batario - Engineering Officer
Q stood up with Kastarak, a little confused at the suddenness of the counselor’s greeting. Did crowds make him uncomfortable? Q put on a smile and offered his hand to the Lt. Cmdr. “Hello there,” He said, his British accent getting crisper in the formal setting, “I’m Lt. Q Dawson, Chief Weapons Officer. Just transferred. Did I hear the good doctor here say your name was Paul?”
-LT. Quentin Q Dawson (CWO)
Sitting the other side of Kastarak, Doctor Symar arched an eyebrow, he had not yet found the right moment to inform the rest of the crew of his true part-Romulan identity, so for now, he remained the stoic Vulcan persona he had donned since he joined Starfleet, “Lieutenant Dawson, I am yet to file your medical examination report, I trust you will be reporting to Sickbay as soon as possible?”
-Lieutenant Symar: Chief Medical Officer-
Symar was “over-Vulcanning” his Vulcanness. Kastarak gave his supervisor a telling glance, before taking another sip of the carbonated water.
– Ensign Kastarak
PAwl stopped what he was doing as he felt like the room was off somehow. but could not put a finger on it As he scanned the room slowly. He shook it off and tried to focus on the festivities.
Lt Jg. Pawl Batario - Engineering Officer
Lt. Blaze entered the room in his dress uniform. He then took a set at his assigned table and chair. He then pull a pad to get some work done before the party started.
Lt. Alexander Blaze (CE)
