“No other but I repeat my previous question regarding intelligence on the Admiral’s Daughters whereabouts and the reason for her abduction,” He said even more drily.CSO, 2O
Umbri spoke up from where they were sitting. “Having been there with the Captain when the mission was given, I believe I have some authority to answer your question, Lieutenant Commander. Part of it, at least,” Umbri paused, taking a deep breath. They were still getting used to this whole leadership thing. “Section 31 fears that the Admiral’s daughter is being tortured for information and is being used to try to make the Admiral reveal Federation secrets. Of course, we won’t know for sure the reason for her abduction until we’re actually there. As for on-ground intelligence regarding the Admiral’s Daughter’s whereabouts, I honestly don’t feel confident enough to answer that. I’ll leave that to the Captain,” they said.
Lieutenant (j.g.) Umbri Zayne, Weapons Officer
“That’s right Umbri. The daughter is being held in a warehouse of sorts 64 kms South of the main city.”
“Understood, but do we know why she was targetted, Captain?” T’Aria stressed. She suspected that there would be little trouble in locating the victim with the intel Taggart provided. That was not the problem. They needed to understand why the Klingons abducted the Admiral’s daughter before they could strategize her retrieval. Raiding the warehouse with phasers unholstered and an aggressive speech was unlikely to succeed.
T’Aria wanted to know their motives. Were they attempting to exploit the Admiral or Starfleet? T’Aria considered the mantra – “no one left behind” – that pervaded many Starfleet ships and crews. The phrase was used to justify the rescue of another in perilous conditions or where the needs of the one outweighed the needs of the many. T’Aria doubted that applied to a body of millions. Few individuals, less the daughter of a high ranking official, would be enough to sway an entire fleet. Their mission would be sanctioned if she was.
Then, she wondered, what had the Admiral done to warrant the Klingons’ hostility?
Blaze was looking at his screen “we need to get things going sir they are about to start pulling the ship apart sir……..I can make the alarms think there is a airborne virus on bord that will lock the bulk heads and scare the workers out” he said
Lt. Alexander Blaze
Chris shook his head. “No Blaze. I said it was being fixed and will be completed tonight. They are not taking it apart. Look at your computer thingy again. The virus sounds good to get us in though. Don’t do anything until we are closer to the ship so we can have an adequate arrival and response time. “

Pawl sat there quietly in the background trying to take in all of this the situation between us. and Section 31 along with the Romulans. “What an evil web we all weave. The federation? section 31? and the Romulans? This mission in general is going to be hair-raising. And what’s my assignment here sir!” Pawl said finally. Not liking the three-way trap they were now part of. He felt out of place. He almost did not want to hear this but he tried to keep optimistic. As other things came into his head Viruses, Bulkheads, biohazards. Kidnappings? He closed his eyes a moment as he was getting rather dizzy with all this.

Blaze looked at the system “this spreadsheet is hard to read. It was originally set in for salvage but orders came from higher up to repair. There just about do with the clocking Device”
Lt. Alexander Blaze
T’Aria mulled over the data they gathered. Rescue the Admiral’s daughter from a Klingon warehouse situated 64km outside of The First City with a stolen vessel and no support from their organisation. T’Aria knit her eyebrows into a pensive frown, bewildered by the sheer unknown they had to work with. The people before her were resourceful, resolute and ready to risk their lives. She had no doubt they would devise a successful plan to retrieve the Admiral’s daughter. But, she kept circling back to ‘why?’
Taking in a soft breath, T’Aria leaned back and listened as they uncovered more about their mission.
— T’Aria, XO
“That’s a very good question T’Aria. The reason is not what you’d expect. You’d expect that the Klingons would have an insider, which I have no doubt still, and then they planned to kidnap her. The actual reason is pretty funny…” He laughed a bit....”She was just cruising along and the Klingons were outside their area and noticed the ship. Captured it. And only then when she started yelling, “Do you know who my daddy is?” “You’re in so much trouble!” Etc… He did in his best Valley girl voice. “So that’s how they knew it was her and so her dad is.”
What just happened to the captain? Kastarak observed the captain’s shifting behaviours and personalities. Kastarak new of Taggart’s mental-health issues, had the captain suddenly become psychotic? Is this how psychosis is displayed among humans?
Kastarak took a deep breath, ready to intervene.
But then, logic overcome him – or whatever logic there is in understanding humans. Was it perhaps intuition rather than logic? The captain acted, as if in theatre (not a surgical theatre, obviously…), by making the kidnapping of the admiral’s daughter a comedy of sorts. Why did the captain do this? Surely there was gravity to this situation.
Then Kastarak remembered, humans use humour to cope with difficulties and difficult feelings especially.
A bewildering people.
“Sir, if I may? What do we know of the victim? Do we have a name, age, species, homeplanet? Any other data that might help us find her and secure her?”
Kastarak raised his hand.
“Captain, we––”, he used the pronoun ‘we’ liberally with no understanding of who ‘we’ would be in this situation, “–– are set to take charge of a Romulan bird-of-prey. We will need to set up a Sickbay there. How many crew-members will be assigned to the bird of prey? How many will stay on Chernov? I should need to help Doctor Symar divide Sickbay’s staff and supplies accordingly.”
What caused Kastarak to ask this was that he did not trust Symar. Symar had just minutes ago displayed ill logic, and Symar had acted erratically the past weeks, ever since his return from that planet that Chernov circled around, and ended up in skirmishes with the Romulans. Something had affected him. Kastarak sensed something off in his chief medical officer. Maybe Symar was ill? In any case, Kastarak did not trust Symar to perform under these circumstances. Kastarak needed to step up.
What Kastarak did not say was that he was rather confused. He did not like that realization. He preferred clarity. This situation triggered in him memories of the unclarity of his refuge from Vulcan (after the destruction) where various agencies attempted to coordinate the refugee response. Where would people be housed? There was talk he would be placed on Delta Vega, further out in the Vulcan system, but then it appeared that it would be difficult to coordinate food and housing logistics in the otherwise sparsely populated ice-cold M-class planet. Kastarak spent a few weeks in Andoria, the closest planet, and saw snow and ice landscapes for the first time in his life. Not knowing how long he would stay wherever he was, with whom he would stay, what to do, what was expected of him – it triggered such anxiety in him that, in addition to the acute trauma of the loss of his planet, family, culture, species (surely Nero’s acts were wilful genocide) brought him into a destructive first pon farr.
Sitting on the Nave, with little clarity of why, how, when, the logistics of it all, caused Kastarak to travel back in time – mentally – to that teenage years. Of course, it had to be a Romulan ship that they had to steal. Why did it have to be Romulan? Why did they have to steal a foreign empire’s ship to go to Qo’noS? Why couldn’t they acquire a freighter, or better, a Klingon ship of some kind that would seem innocuous passing through Imperial Klingon territory? And did the needs of the nameless admiral’s nameless daughter outweigh the needs of the Chernov’s crew, and the risk of causing an all-out war with the Klingon Empire?
Kastarak remembered that less than a year after the destruction of Vulcan, a series of terrorist attacks rocked Earth. The USS Enterprise was sent to Qo’noS to apprehend a suspect behind the attacks, while at the same time Admiral Marcus tried to engineer an all-out war with the Klingon Empire. Kastarak could not help to think that perhaps there were darker motives behind this mission. Mission briefs would be on a need-to-know basis, and as such, the information he already had was all that he could receive now.
He did not like this mission. It seemed perilous, dangerous, and medieval. But he had his orders, and he would perform.
He just wanted to know the logistics of it all, but he did not know when or how to ask for that information, nor how to receive such information. When was a good time? When was a proper time? There were so many other senior officers at the table. Perhaps they knew more already than he. It was logical that they would take charge of most of it.

Chris saw Kastarak raise his hand again.
“Another excellent question Kastarak.” He gestured with his arms to everyone in the yacht. “What you see is what you get. The only people here will be the ones going on the mission and that is if anyone will go with me. If no one will come, then I’ll drop you all off and figure out out on my own. Either way, I have to go.”He took another sip of his coffee before he continued. “As to your Sickbay question. You can set up another Sickbay in one of the cargo bays. There will be no one left on the Chernov because the Chernov is getting fixed, so you all are on holiday. The reason for the Romulan ship, is not only we can’t be linked to Starfleet but it’s the only ship around that is capable of giving us a chance. Not too many weapons on a cargo ship. And think how impressive the Klingons will be when they see a Motley Crew of humans and Vulcans and the like, flying around in a Romulan Bird of Prey! We’d be badass and gain some instant respect from them. Does that help?”
Captain Chris Taggart CO
The answer satisfied Kastarak’s question.
“Yes, sir, I will coordinate with Mr Symar in securing the necessary supplies. We will likely need to utilize the expertise of Mr Blaze in fitting our technology with the one of the Romulan bird-of-prey.”
He was now ready to move on.
“Mr Symar, what do you say?” he asked, turning his head to his chief medical officer.
– Ensign Kastarak (doctor/counsellor)
“Good! Now here’s the elephant in the room. Who is with me?”
Chris
After being in contact with their team on a secure channel, Umbri spoke up. “You have the full support of Security, Captain. The rest of my team is on their way,” they said.
Lieutenant (j.g.) Umbri Zayne, Weapons Officer
Kastarak hadn’t even thought he had a choice, he had assumed it was an order. Was it an order? Was the captain’s question rhetorical? He decided it was.
“Excellent !” Chris said.
“I will make the necessary preparations with Mr Symar relating to whatever orders you give him and me”, he said.
– Ensign Kastarak (doctor / counsellor)
“No. Kastarak. You have a choice. I’m not ordering anyone. This is strictly voluntary. If you don’t want to come, then that’s fine. You’ll stay here, have a vacation and when and if we get back, you’ll be welcomed on the Chernov. Again. It’s your choice.”
