As the Lt. went to her office with the captain, she thought that it was best if they talked in her office due to the fact that she has to go back on duty afterwards. She was concerned that something like that was gonna come up again. But it wasn’t that. She was actually expected a promotion from Lieutenant Junior Grade but it was a sudden thing that she didn’t get. So she not upset or anything she was just curious on what happened and everything. But on the same note that the fact that the alert came up to into engineering that some sort of the error code. She was completely unsure of how it came around cause it was unusual. “Captain. Just out of curiosity, but I was wondering how come I didn’t get promoted or anything. I’m not mad or anything I’m just curious.” She said to him as she was curious. “Also wondering how an error code like this came up. Do you know what kind of error code it is? It was something that was unexpected and I don’t understand.” She was wondering and curious about that as well.

Chief Engineer Lovejoy

Chris came in and looked around. She’s done a lot he thought to himself. He was a little shocked at her questions but didn’t show it. “I will answer both of your questions Lieutenant. I will answer the second one first though if you don’t mind? And I am grateful that you voice your concern. Please keep doing that.”

“To be honest, I don’t know how that code came to be or what it means. As a command officer you have to take courses in engineering, science, etc.. That’s because as a command officer you are expected to know how to run an entire ship. That being said, these courses are basic. I know enough about engineering to reroute or route power and which systems are more crucial and critical. I know the properties of the Warp core and disrupter dish, etc, but I don’t know how to maintain them, fix them or anything. Just how they work, why they work and how it relates to the overall workings of the Chernov.”

“So obviously someone that has a background such as yourself would make a far better Command officer than a surgeon as far as really knowing how to keep a ship operating mechanically. I hope that makes since. The other thing is someone can be a SME or Subject Matter Expert in a given field of a degree or career. But because you’re a SME or the Chief or even the Captain, doesn’t mean that you know all there is to know about everything in your given or chosen field.”

“As a doctor when I was just a general practitioner, I knew a lot about medicine but not everything. As I grew with experience, so did my knowledge. But often times those experiences that helped me down the road didn’t exist at one point in time. Meaning I would have a medical emergency come in that I have either never seen or heard of before and I did not know what to do. I had to look for others for help and sometimes, that help came from someone that was Junior in rank, but they’ve faced that situation before. So for me, I learned early on to take advice from anyone as long as that advice was valid of course.” Chris took a deep breath. “I did lose patients because I and others did not know what to do. You can’t save them all. But as I learned from that, then the next time someone came in with the same symptoms, then I would know what to do and be the hero that they needed. I hope you can see the correlation between what I’m saying and your job Lieutenant. So please do not beat yourself up for not knowing that specific code. Because the next time it happens, you’ll know exactly what to, be calm and professional about it and the ensigns around you will think that you’re very smart and wise.” He winked at her with a smile after he said that.

“Now to answer your first question. The one about your promotion or lack thereof.” He paused a bit before going on. “Who said you weren’t getting one?” He winked and smiled again. “Lieutenant. There is a promotion ceremony slash party that will be taking place soon.” His voice became a whisper and he leaned in close and put his hand up to the other side of his mouth. “Just between us and the NSA,.... you’re in it.” Then he went back to his normal stance and voice volume. “So I’ll be sending a communique to every department head tomorrow about you they believe should be promoted and to send us their progress reports and evals to make the calls. Then the XO and I will be doing the same for the Department heads. But we’ve already discussed you. So keep this quiet until it happens please.”

“So do you have anymore questions?”

“Uh no captain. I’m gonna keep that in mind. Especially with the random code. I know my officers in engineering will help me out and keep me in the loop.” As she said to the captain with a much more happy about it. “Oh by the way captain,” she hands a department report from engineering and said, “here’s a status report. I just thought that I’d do something like this for you since it would’ve been easier.” She said. She then smiled at the captain cause she knows that she has the full support for everything. “Oh captain, I was actually been thinking of having a dinner with some of the my junior officers in engineering to you know discuss what we could do better and what is the best way to keep things up and running. I was wondering if you and the XO would like to be apart of it. If you’d like to.” As she stood there inviting not just the captain but also the XO to a dinner with the junior officers in engineering.

As she was standing there she just thought that it would be generous about inviting them to dinner cause it would be like a little gathering if it would be interesting to have. It would also be like a semi-social gathering with the captain and the commander and the junior officer.

“That sounds lovely. But no. Please hear me out. Your crew needs to get know YOU and YOU alone. They are the ones working with you day after day. Not me or the Commander. It will be best and more genuine if we weren’t there. Because I would want them listening and hanging on to each and every word you say. If T’Aria and were there, then they’ll be too busy thinking that they might have something in their teeth as to make a good impression with me. Or looking at us and worrying about messing up in front of me. I’m not tooting my horn and saying I’m special, but young crew get that way around the ships highest ranking officer.”

“I say do it but with only you and then after you have that one, then T’Aria and I will come to the next one. Ok?” He did want to sound full of himself but facts were facts.

“Sir yes sir. I was thinking maybe a couple of weeks later if you’re okay with that. The treat will be on me anyways so don’t worry.” She said to the captain knowing that it was gonna be okay. “With that being said sir. I am honored to be here as one of your crew. I really do appreciate that I really do. I feel like having more people for the engineering team would be helpful. One of my engineers hasn’t checked in and was hoping we could try and do something with that.” She said to the captain. Lovejoy is really grateful to be here on the Chernov as Chief Engineer on board.

“I’m working on getting more engineers madam. But it takes time. Please be patient with me. And once again no one here is mine Lieutenant. Unlike other Captain’s I don’t go around saying my ship or my crew. Have you ever heard me say that? We are a team and yes I am team leader but we’re a team. I’ll be more than happy to come to your second post party or get together, but not the first for reasons mentioned earlier. Ok?”

“Yes captain understood.” She said with a smile on her face. As she stood there for a while. As wage was standing there, she looked at something in her office. She was unsure of what it was.

Chief Engineer Lovejoy

Chris looked around as well. “What is it Lieutenant?” He didn’t know what she was looking at.
