It’s been Kastarak’s first day off for a quite a while. He had to do some overtime shifts due to Symar’s stay planetside. He wasn’t too tired, but he had looked forward to a day off. It had have given him extra time for meditation and physical exercise. After waking up, Kastarak had a light breakfast, and proceeded to do some heavy exercise in his room. After Umbri’s promotion to department chief, they had been moved to a non-shared room. Their departure from the cabin was noticeable, more noticeable than Kastarak had anticipated. Perhaps soon there would be a new bunkmate coming in, but for now, Umbri’s former bed was empty. Kastarak used the extra space for exercise After his exercise, he meditated for three hours straight. It was much needed. He had not had time for that long a period of meditation for a very long period. It cleared his head of any residue of emotion, and he experienced clarity, serenity and logic. After this intense morning, Kastarak needed a heavy meal. He needed to replenish protein, carbohydrates, minerals, and so on. He craved something copper-heavy – this was his body’s way of telling him he needed to replenish his blood. Though the galley did not have any of it. He knew he could go to sickbay later and get some supplement pills.
There were no Vulcan dishes today, aside from plomeek soup. That soup was not what he needed, Kastarak surmised, and decided to go to the buffet galley. So much human foods. Why was Star Fleet always so human-centric?
But human food was versatile. Among all human foods, Kastarak enjoyed potatoes much. The flavour was mild, not offending in any way. And potatoes could be cooked in various ways, providing variation of flavour and experiences. Kastarak chose three big baked potatoes (carbohydrates), drenched them in 250 ml oil (fat), and got himself a side dish of a bean and vegetable salad (protein, fibre, vitamins). He was careful to avoid salt and seasoning. Now he had a full balanced, logical meal.
He could not help notice getting some looks as he chose an empty table by a window. He looked out on the space beyond, and started eating his meal.

Symar entered the Galley in the same calm, resolute way he always did. The crew members around him; coming of an interesting evening on Gamma Shift, would not know that he had recently been experiencing difficulties with his emotions. Seeing Kastarak ahead of him, he strode over to his seat and said, “Ensign, I trust Sickbay was not too busy while I was meditating.”
-Lieutenant Symar: Chief Medical Officer-
Kastarak gestured in a way that invited Symar to sit down with him.
“It is agreeable to see you, sir,” replied Kastarak matter of factly. “I was not aware you had been meditating. Sickbay has not been too busy, no. Nurse Sutalo has shared the overtime shifts with me. He and I have established a constructive working relationship. Are you meditated enough to return to Sickbay or return planetside?”
Kastarak took another spoon scoop of his oiled-up potato, and brought it to his mouth, chewed intensively, very fast (at least 18 times per mouthful to get all nutrients), swallowed, and looked at his superior, awaiting his reply.
