Oswego shook his head again and stretched out on the floor, propping up his torso on his elbows. “You are more than your work, Toveka. You are part of the living tapestry of your universe. Think of it like this. Every living thing is a junction point of dozens… sometimes hundreds thousands or millions… of the threads that bind your universe and hold it together. The same threads that go into you are not all the same that come from you. So the thread I see that is loose should be going somewhere, to someone or something else… some other being… but its not. Make sense now?”

She nodded because the concept wasn’t lost on her. What ‘was’ lost on her was her part in it all. “Ok, so I understand we’re all tied together one way or another. But how does this floating thread affect me? Or whatever? I mean, are you here to tell me to go help someone else? Or is someone else supposed to find me? Why come to me?”

In the back of her mind, she felt slow. How was a concept, described so simply, eluding her in understanding? If she was supposed to help him find this mysterious ‘person’, she had absolutely no idea how to go about that.

He looked at her and a mischievous grin played across his face. “Huh… Chuck usually went for girls that weren’t so dense… maybe options are limited in space.” and he chuckled.

“Think, lady. Stop spinning your heels and think.” he admonished her.

This time the frown was more than confusion. She stood up and stepped deliberately sideways to avoid getting near the man at her feet.

She was frustrated and confused and hurting all at the same time. Her head wasn’t working cause she’d shut it down when this apparition appeared.

Toveka walked to the window in silence a moment. If she’d spoken too soon, she have barked at him. She went back over the conversation a couple times and turned to him. There was still a frown, but it wasn’t as severe. “Either I’m to help Charles, or,” she paused a moment. “Or my dad?” The first made sense to her. The second, she wasn’t so sure of. “

“What does Chuck need help with?” Oswego asked with a laugh that was simultaneously humorous and slightly depreciating.

She looked frustrated. “How should I know? But you said it’s not me. But since you didn’t mention it, I’m guessing it’s my father? Where is he?” The previous came out with stubbornness. The latter came out with pleading.

He looked and said with a level of understanding that was in direct contradiction to his laugh. “That is something that you probably need to figure out on your own. All I know is he isn’t here.”

Oswego

She growled and clenched her fists. She wasn’t mad at him. But at herself. “So that’s why you’re here? My father is floundering and I’m supposed to find and save him? Though I have no idea where in the galaxy he is?” She sounded absolutely lost. But at the same time, determined.

He looked at her from his position on the floor and just shook his head. Slowly he stood up and walked towards the far wall. He stopped short and looked back. “Think about it this way. Ten minutes ago you thought he was dead. Progress, right?” and he waved and disappeared.
