While they waited, Toveka worked on programming the biologic sample she pulled up to mimic a neuro network. If she could get the shard to think it was back in living tissue, back in a brain, maybe she could figure out what it was made for.

((just assuming it arrives))Toveka took up the small container with the fragment in it. “You said this wasn’t in this form in the Klingon’s brain?” She set the container down beside a medium sized petri dish that contained what looked like discolored jelly that was thinning on the edges into liquid. Slipping on gloves and goggles and picking up a pair of small clamps, Toveka looked at him and gave a wry smile. “Are you ready for this?” She looked at him and nodded to the glasses on the rack over the console. There were six pairs there as well as another box of disposable gloves. She wanted something closer to skin thickness to keep her dexterity from being compromised. So she had opted not to use the haz gloves which were bulkier and less maneuverable.

CSOBaldur took a position behind the scientist, he wanted to observe whatever would happen if anything. “Yes, we should have some scan data regarding it on the computer” He stated in his calm deep voice. He grabbed the goggles and put on the protective gloves then went back to his original position “As ready as I’ll ever be” He said wit a faint smile on his lips.

Toveka lifted the chip a bit higher a moment, then slowly placed it in the dish of replicated ‘brain matter’ and inhaled a sharp breath as she waited for a reaction.

CSOBaldur leaned a little to the side to get a better view of whatever was happening.

Suddenly, the brain matter started to sizzle, before it began to multiply at an alarming rate. However, this wasn’t the end, as the multiplication suddenly stopped, and instead began to reverse itself. It kept on fluctuating back and forth, and every time the scan results were the same at every stage that the matter had the same mass as earlier.
Mr Snuggles (GM)
Toveka frowned. “That can’t actually be right,” she murmured and ran the diagnostic to be sure the equipment was functioning properly. “How can it grow and shrink at such an alarming, and obvious rate, yet still retain the same mass?” She was thinking out loud as she shifted the probes to get a reading on just the crystal as the brain mass shifted around it.

ScienceBaldur shrugged, this was way beyond his area of expertise “Is the extra matter some visual hallucination then or are we perhaps experiencing a temporal event?” He asked, leaning towards the apparent temporal issues they’d been facing.
SOO - Baldur
(had hoped a GM would step in… gonna take it on anyway)
“I don’t believe it is a hallucination or holo projection.” She tapped the matter with the end of a long glass probe. “As for a temporal event it would have to be extremely localized. And then I wonder what, if any, chance in the Klingon has occured from when it had this in him to now without it.” She sighed. “I’m not sure what it is.”
Moving to the console on her right, she started to tap in new parameters. “This medium we have it in is meant to be the same as brain matter. So my question is, is it only reactive to brain matter of humanoids? It’ll take a few minutes. I’m replicating animal brain matter to see if it reacts the same. If it does, then perhaps its the neural connections or the brain itself that it latches on to. If it doesn’t, then we know it’s targeted for a purpose and we need to find out why a lot sooner rather than later. Should also probably talk to Security about getting its makeup linked to a scanner so we can see if anyone else has one of these things in them.”

CSOOOC: Sorry for the delay, I’m back to regular posting limits now
The animal brain matter also ended up being affected the same way, only this time it shifted between the replication light and the decomposed remains. The computer compared the two test results and came to the conclusion that it was indeed temporal in nature.
Mr. Snuggles (GM)
Toveka looked at the results and frowned. “Ok… you were right. Though I hate to admit it. They are temporal in nature. My guess is the chip was use to somehow allow our Klingon guest to move between us and the place, or time, he came from.” She sighed and shook her head. Turning around, she rested against the console and looked at Balder. “Sadly, that means, since we removed it, he’s stuck here with us. I don’t dare ask medical to try and replace it. We don’t know which neurons it needs to bed with to make it work. I won’t subject anyone to this level of ‘experimenting’.”
She looked down at her hands. “Makes me wonder, sometimes, what I would have studied had I gone medical.” Looking back up at him, she shrugged. “But I can’t do it all. And security and science knowledge are about all my brain can handle.”

(spelling error fix)Baldur smiled at her comment, he felt similar regarding his own experiences as a Tactical Officer and now his position as SOO, mind always fixed on the Tactical nature of his existence “o you think it’s possible to attach the device to some sort of probe, use it to send it to wherever the other side is and receive it back here?” His thoughts immediately turning to how to gather the most intelligence possible.
SOO - Baldur
Toveka frowned a moment in thought. “The probe would have to have the simulated brain matter in it. Perhaps we can get a sample from the Klingon and replicate his brain signature. At least for the probe’s identification, anyway. Then we’d have to find out at what ‘frequency’ or chemical signature the probe activates. If it’s something like stress, or death, or even cardiac arrest, we need to know how to activate it. Though I’m guessing, now that I think about it, that death doesn’t do it or the chip would have phased once it was disconnected from the host. Essentially reading the lack of input as ‘death’.”
She was rambling, but it was thinking out loud and she wasn’t even half aware she was doing it.

CSOBaldur smirked slightly, scientists always had the most wonderful enthusiasm when struggling with a new problem, it was positively infectious “Well I think that calls for experimentation. That is unless you feel it would prove a security risk to the Station?” he said in a questioning tone.
Soo - Baldur
She nodded. “Actually I think we need to see what the emergency is about. That klaxon outside the room is driving me to distraction. I’m just glad I can silence it in here.” When the alarms had sounded less than ten minutes ago, she had automatically locked down science. Now that the sim was done they had been running before the sound, she could safely remove it. “First, we need to see what the chaos is about. Then we will worry about the probe. We will need to get a sample of the Klingon’s DNA to replicate the brain matter so it has his signature.” She turned back around and shook her head. “The other question isn’t just how to find out when and where it came from, but why it’s here.” She squatted down to open the cabinet under the console and seek out a container to lock the chip up in so they could look at it later.

CSOBaldur had been so engrossed in the work that he had completely ignored the alarm originally. He tapped a nearby console to bring up the station status report to see what was going on. His eyes narrowed as he saw a security alert for outside what seemed to be a brewery. He wasn’t Security personnel so he hadn’t thought much of the previous alert but this was different. He tapped a few more commands only to see that the Security Chief in the Medical bay. Why would he be there and not fighting intruders? On a hunch, he tapped his combadge =^=Baldur to Tenkiller, What exactly’s going on?= ^= He asked in a firm voice.
SOO - Baldur
A frustrated Oklahoma accent responded immediately.=^= Hell if I know. We have multiple hostiles on the Promenade, and the Skipper has me on some wild goose chase here in medical for something the Doc just told me about. Dollars to donors that’s what this is about, so I’m trying to find the damn thing. =^=
Tenkiller, CoS
Toveka frowned. If he was in medical, she had a feeling she knew what he was seeking. Her own comm activated and a slightly Romulan accented voice came to his ears. =^=Tenkiller, Sir. The Captain just came by here and said the same thing. That he wanted us to look for something they might be looking for. I say we compare notes and see what we come up with. Maybe we can find it quicker.=^=
She frowned at Balder. “What? I wasn’t gonna tell him we had it. Never know who’s listening… right?” She looked at the chip. “I think we need to get this and the brain matter into a couple containment fields and we need to work on that probe you were talking about.” She immediately went under the counter once more for a secondary container. Putting the chip in one, and the brain matter sample in the other, she placed them both in a secured travel case and set the case under the desk between two other identical cases. Standing back up, she looked at Balder. Her hand absently touching his arm. “We can’t tell the Security Chief we have it till we are sure he is alone and not under duress. Agreed?” She immediately took a step back and let go of him as she realized how inappropriate she had been. “Apologies, Sir…” she murmured.

A swirl of lights indicated the arrival of… someone. Soon, the form of the station’s Security Chief coalesced into being and he looked around. “Ok. What the hell is going on, who just lied to me, and where is the item?”
