Posted by… suppressed (2) by the Post Ghost! 👻Tenkiller made his way down the passageways, but finally cursed. =/\= Computer. Location of Lieutenant Junior Grade Toveka Brine. =/\= and there was a pause and the computer said =/\= The Chief Science Officer is in the holodeck. =/\= and Tenkiller cursed again. He made his way back to his quarters and paced. The racial ‘term’ used to her was infuriating. He shook his head to clear it, and then focused on finishing some reports.
Some time later, he said =/\= Computer. Location of Lieutenant Junior Grade Toveka Brine.=/\= and this time the computer said =/\= The Chief Science Officer is in her quarters. =/\= Tenkiller took a deep breath and stood and left the reports as they were.
Less than five minutes later, he pressed the chime and stood back and waited.

Toveka had spent nearly an hour running the sim over and over. This time it didn’t bring her any comfort, and as usual, no answers.
She was in her quarters, Padd in hand, curled on the couch with her tea in her hand. Looking up as the chime sounded, a light frown on her face wondering who it was, she called out, “Come,” and rose up. When the door opened, Tenkiller would get a sight that likely no one else had seen. The Science Chief was not in her uniform. She was in a loose pair of deep blue slacks with a slightly lighter blue top on. It was sleeveless with a low cut neck that was tasteful while leaving no doubt it was meant to flatter a woman’s figure. Her hair was down and she was barefoot.

CSO“Lieutenant. I don’t mean to intrude on your private time, but I was hopin’ we could talk a moment? And no is a perfectly acceptable answer here, by the way.” He stood just outside the door, and had his hands behind his back.

She set the PaDD on the table and moved to the replicator. “Please, come in. What can I offer you to drink?” There was a coolness to her that would remind him of when they had meant. The warmth that had started to seep out thru dinner, was gone.
“I’m having herbal tea. If you are curious.”
Toveka
CSOHe stepped through the door and let it close behind him. “No, no… thanks, though.” and he looked around the room before he continued. “I just wanted to come by and apologize for the… well…” and he cleared his throat uncomfortably. Taking a deep breath, he said “Look. I’m sorry that nitwit said… what he said. It was wrong. It was reprehensible. And it was foolish. And I’m sorry that he said it. I give you my word, it will not happen again.” and he looked around again and then said “Well… I… I just wanted to come by and say sorry. You didn’t deserve that. And it will be addressed. So… goodnight, Lieutenant. Hope you have a more relaxing evening.” and he moved to the door to leave.

Her quarters were sparse. There was a portrait on the wall of her with what was probably assumed as her parents. It was several years before the Academy. There were a could crystal figurines on the nearly empty shelves. One was of a cat like creature, the other of a wild exotic flower. The PaDDs were everywhere, though. Across her desk, the coffee table and even on the chair by the couch. Also on the coffee table was a small cluster of rocks that ranged from one the size of his head, to perhaps 4 or 5 the size of his fist or smaller. Other than a colorful blanket tossed haphazardly over the couch, there wasn’t much else in the room that seemed personal.
“I appreciate the apology, Tenkiller. But it wasn’t necessary. And please, if you wish, you can stay.” She turned to him and her shoulders had relaxed slightly.
Toveka
CSOHe stopped and said “Yeah… I don’t wanna intrude. You’ve probably had enough of folks for the evening… and I wouldn’t blame you one bit.” but he did pause to see her reply.

She smiled, though it was slight. “Please. The actions of one person do not dictate my whole life.” She shook her head, “My actions for the last couple hours, perhaps. But the ill words of the Lieutenant JG were not yours. I hold no ill will to you. And I believe I still owe you a thank you for the bread, anyway. It was truly a fantastic dish. And well matched with the stew.” She leaned on the edge of her table, hands on the edge as she watched him.
Toveka
CSOHe looked at her for a long moment and then said “Mind if I sit? It’s been a hell of a day, and I could use a breather.” and he gestured to an empty chair.

She nodded over her shoulder to the couch. “Go sit where it’s comfortable. And tell me your drink of choice. I have no true alcohol, but I can get nearly anything else.” She nodded to the front half of the couch without notes and PaDDs on it. Turning back to the replicator, she awaited his request.

He smiled slightly and, as he moved to the couch, said “There’s a selection for a drink called ‘Dr. Pepper’s. You’ll find it under the tab ‘Security Tonics and Libations’. Thanks.” and he sat down, but didnt exactly relax.
“And the apology is necessary. Ya know, while humans claim to have moved past a lot of the negatives we possessed in the past; I dunno if we’ll ever get past racism. I think hints in our DNA, sometimes. And trust me… had my share, I can tall ya.”
