He looked at her and blinked once, a small smile crossing his lips and then vanishing. “Ok, Toveka. Now if you would like, I was about to have dinner. You are welcome to join me if you want to.”
The cook came by and eyed the fry bread and Tenkiller held a finger up to Toveka. “Hey. Catch.” and he tossed one to the blue skinned man. He caught it and took a bite… and then another. Tenkiller chuckled and said “See? Was that so freakin’ hard? You put one of those witha’ bowl of chili and you gonna make a whole lotta people happy.” and he picked up the plate and started to leave… and the cook grabbed another as he passed. Tenkiller didn’t look back, he just yelled over his shoulder “First one’s free! After that y’all gotta pay!” and he made his way to a table.
Tenkiller, CoS
Toveka smiled, the final bite of her bread going in her mouth. Moving up behind Tenkiller, she nodded. “What part of dinner can I fetch or help with?” She stopped beside the table and watched him set the bread down.
Toveka
CE“Their stew is passable. Want to grab a couple of bowls? That will go well. I’ll grab drinks. What would you like?” he asked and smiled at her, white teeth against his dark skin.
Tenkiller, CoS
She nodded. “I can do that. And I’ll have whatever you are. It’s your bread. I trust your judgement.” She smiled and nodded. “And if I don’t like it, I’ll get something else.” She moved off and for the bowls of stew and the silverware for it.
Toveka
CSOTenkiller nodded and then went to the replicators and came back with two root beers. He sat them down, looked around the room, and when he saw Toveka coming back, stood up and reached for a bowl to assist.
“So how long have you been on the station?” he asked, standard opening question when dining with new crew.
Tenkiller, CoS
She handed him the bowl and nodded before sitting down. “Thank you,” she said as she nodded to the root beer. “Actually I was here for almost a year and a half before I left. I had to take care of some personal business and have recently returned.” The mention of ‘personal business’ held just enough hesitation, that if he was listening, would smack of a cover up.
“How about you? I don’t recall you being here when I left. I knew the old Security Chief well, though.” She smiled and took a spoonful of the stew and nodded. “It’s pretty good.”
Toveka
CSO“Dip the bread. It gets better.” and he took a drink. “I actually just arrived. I’ve been here all of five days.” and he smiled at her and said “You are actually the first person I’ve eaten with since I got here. So thanks.”

Nikki roamed into the Mess. He was tired and cranky and was in desperate need of coffee and that was where his nose took him, though, about half way, he stopped and sniffed the air. “Haven’t smelled that since I was with me first wife,” he said and looked for the source. Spotting the source he made his way to the two there just in time to hear Tenkiller. He’d heard of the new copper. While he tended to avoid them he liked the name. Had a good ring to it. “Five days, lad,” he said, eyeing the food more than th two. “Tired of making laps of the promenade yet?” Then … pointing to the plate he said, “Is that what I think it is?” with his pirate like Irish lilt.
- NikkiTenkiller looked up and said “Well, it’s either fry bread… or you’re eyeballing my stew. Either way, if that’s what you were thinking then yes it is.” and he cocked his head and took a hard look at the new arrival. “Brako, right? Ops?” and he held out a hand. “Tenkiller, new Security Chief. Ms. Toveka I’m sure ya know.”
Tenkiller, CoS
Nikki took the hand and shook it. His was beefy that fit Nikki’s stockier frame. “Story behind the name?” he asked, nodding in affirmation. Never was good that the coppers knew ya. He gave Toveka a glance and a quick wink. As soon as his hand was free he turned a chair around and straddled it, leaning on the back with both hands. “Fry bread. Me first wife just called it ‘foreplay’ it was that good. Didn’t do anything for me waistline but it was a fine treat.”
Toveka nodded, “Lieutenant,” she said and took another spoonful of stew. She wasn’t sure about reaching for it in front of the young man as he stood there. It seemed… rude, somehow.
Toveka
CSOMore alert now, the Iotian scanned the two to see if he had interrupted anything. Not seeing anything ‘there’ he eyed the food. “Mind if I do?” he asked.
NikkiTenkiller waved his spoon at the line. “Stew’s over there. C’mon back and help yourself.” and he dipped the bread into the stew and took a bite.
Tenkiller, CoS
Nikki’s head swiveled to the directions, then shrugged and moved on to get some. And coffee. The line was slow but that just allowed Nikki to work on fathoming spices and what the competing scents were. Coffee was one that he took black, but in time did return with a laden tray.
Toveka remained silent and reached for another bread for herself. Dipping it into the stew, she took a bite and nodded. “It is good, indeed. I will have to ask you for some more in the future.” She watched him for a moment. “So do you have any desserts in your bag of tricks?” A slight smile touching her lips as she took another bite.
Toveka
CSOTenkiller winked at her and said “Maybe. But you have to ask really nicely.” and he chuckled.
Tenkiller, CoS
Toveka smiled. “Please?” It was merely polite. She wasn’t one to bat her eyelashes and swoon over him. But there was still an edge of teasing to it. Almost as if in not flirting, she was daring him to do more.
Then Nikki arrived and she kept her eyes on Tenkiller a couple more seconds before looking back down and taking another bite of the stew with the bread.
That laden tray that he added the bread to. As though he had not missed time and conversation he continued where he left off. “Toveka. Tenkiller. Where do those names come from?” He asked, dabbing the bread in the stew.” Deciding it needed some pepper he sprinkled some in.
- NikkiToveka thought it was evident, but she replied between bites. Her words simple and even without hint of anything deeper to offer. “I am Romulan.” The statement was spoken as if it explained everything.

Nikki shrugged. “So yer a Rommie. Big deal. Can’t mean your name isn’t interestin,” he said before taking a bite of the bread. Setting it down he began assorting his cutlery and dishes in a specific fashion that would be reminiscent of a ‘properly’ dressed table setting.
