Posted by Captain Mathias McGarrett (CO) in Station Commander’s Office: Reporting In Posted by… suppressed (8) by the Post Ghost! 👻 Stepping onto the Operations Deck, Sofia was aware of a few people noticing her presence. She wasn’t the hardest person to miss, at nearly six feet tall with exotic olive skin, an aristocratic face framed by long, silky jet-black hair that was secured in a single plait that hung nearly halfway down her back. Then it was the eyes, the dark eyes denoting her predominantly Betazoid heritage. Her uniform was security gold of course and immaculately pressed as she liked to make a good first impression. : : : : : : : : : : : : She paid the stares little mind though, she had an objective in mind coming here, stepping off to the left where her review of the Outpost’s specs indicated the Station Commander’s Office would be. Pressing the chime, she waited for admittance so she could meet her new Captain and he could meet his new Security Chief. : : : : : : : : : : : : ~Sofia Demakis~ : : : : : : : : : : “Enter” would be the response that the new Stations security chief would be greeted when the doors opened the COS would observe a small, yet compact reception room. When inside the COS would see a large desk placed adjacent to a small side wall with 2 seats located on the opposite wall here visitors to the station commander could wait until called. Behind the desk seated a tall well presented Trill and officer who served as the captain’s yeoman or as it was more known the Captains PA. Several PaDD’s lay dormant upon the desk with a vintage 22nd-century Tricorder in one corner and a photo of Ervon’s graduation on the left. Remaining Silent Ensign Maax awaited to see whom would enter the captain’s office. : : : : : : : : : : Ensign Ervon Maax : : : : : Captains Yeoman : : : : : : : : “Hello Ensign,” Sofia spoke with a polite smile, “Is the Captain in? I’m Lieutenant Sofia Demakis, new Security Chief, I’d like to report in officially.” : : : : : : : : ~Sofia Demakis~ : : : : : : OOC: bump : : : : Another bump : : Ensign Maax then informed Sofia that the captain was in and that she should feel free to enter. : : Upon entering the second door, she would see Captain McGarrett seated at a desk looking towards the door. His office was L-shaped and when she entered further in he would be able to see the portion of the room to the right, which had a couch with two armchairs opposite it, all of which were in a matching tan. In the center of the seating options was a glass coffee table with a silver metallic support. : : When he noticed Sofia enter, Mathias turned off the computer terminal before him and rose to his feet. Once he was standing she would see that he was a rather tall man, easily taller than she was. He was a sharp-looking man with not a hair on his head out of place or a hint of a wrinkle on his uniform. Perhaps he was in his early thirties, rather young for Starfleet captain. : : “Lieutenant Sofia Demakis I presume? Please come in and make yourself comfortable. I’m Mathias McGarrett,” he said, omitting his rank as if it was entirely unimportant to him. In reality there was nothing he cared more about than the success and status he had achieved in life to this point, aside from the success that loomed ahead of him that he was still chasing. : : Captain Mathias McGarrett, CO “Yes sir,” Sofia spoke, regarding her new Commanding Officer, he was certainly quite different from other Captains she’d served under, “Pleased to meet you,” she spoke by way of making conversation. It was in reality her own mind forcing her to interact with a superior, reminding her that not all Captains were like Amaya Jacobi. In fact her former superior officer was in a very small minority of psychopaths who managed to skirt by all the way to the Captain’s chair before finally getting caught. ~Sofia Demakis~“Pleased to meet you as well,” said Mathias with a gentle smile.
The young captain stood opposite his incoming security chief silently for a few seconds. He folded his hands together and let his smile fade away. “So, are you more comfortable standing? If so, I imagine that comes in handy when you man the tactical station.”
Captain Mathias McGarrett, CO
“Er right,” Sofia glanced about, picking a chair to sit in. Missing the cue was not entirely her own fault, she had met only two Captains as a department head, one of them the psychotic Jacobi and then Captain Sarah Kingsley was sort of a hard-nosed stickler for proper military precision. Neither one had suggested she ‘make herself comfortable’ when they met with her, “I’m comfortable standing or sitting really, whatever the job requires of me mostly.”

Mathias took a seat as well as he pondered whether or not he was getting off on the right foot with her. This was after all the woman he was going to depend on to shoot when he said to fire. “My apologies if my quirky sense of humor doesn’t always come off right. Anyways…I wanted to bring in here someone with some experience. Perhaps you can tell me about your previous experiences as a security chief.”
Captain Mathias McGarrett, CO
“Well, it is fairly short,” Sofia admitted, “I was assigned two years ago to the USS Infatigable as deputy chief, under Lieutenant Commander Mike Bishop. About a year in, he was murdered while on duty, I had to solve his murder. No doubt you’ve heard of former Captain Amaya Jacobi? I was the ‘upstart’ Lieutenant her defense attorney referred to during her murder trial. She killed Bishop because he stumbled across her plot to ruin her own XO’s rising career and I caught her. I figured it out by doing what I do best, following the evidence and being cautious. I’ll admit, I was probably more aware of the stakes given I was investigating my own superior’s murder, so it would’ve been harder to surprise me as Jacobi managed to surprise Bishop. On the other hand, that situation has taught me that you have to be prepared to handle whatever gets tossed at you, if someone had told me right after Bishop’s death that I’d be hunting down my own commanding officer, I’d have dismissed them as crazy, yet…that’s exactly what happened.”

Mathias slowly blinked at the end of her story. Maybe it was a good thing he didn’t apply to captain that ship after all. “I heard about the CO vacancy, but I had no idea what happened there. What do you say we try to avoid repeating that experience, shall we?”
“Hmm, one thing I don’t understand is why she wanted to stop her own XO from advancing. Did she think her XO was gunning for an admiral spot she wanted? I mean, I understand trying to take out the competition to advance. It certainly works that way at the Risan Poker Championship, and I get how the concept applies in Starfleet. But when you already have your own ship?” The fight to climb the ranks seemed to capture Mathias’s interest more than the murder aspect of the story.

“I’m not entirely certain even she knows why she did it,” Sofia spoke thoughtfully, “She was a bit of a sociopath, but managed to hide it extremely well until it ramped up when Commander William Johannsen came aboard. For whatever reason. Maybe she felt challenged by him enough to assume he would take the ship from her at some point? My experiences with her came after she’d already killed Bishop, but she still went out of her way to avoid me. I could see why once I put it all together, she killed her COS and was avoiding the new one because she was three quarters Betazoid, but at first her evasiveness baffled me.”
~Sofia Demakis~
“Hmm, interesting,” said Mathias as he shook his head. It sure sounded like quite the mess. “So what was the aftermath of the whole thing like? How did things on the ship go after having gone through all that?”
Captain Mathias McGarrett, CO
“I found it rather perplexing. Some people judged me for daring to help prosecute my own CO, others were admiring of my ability to not lose sight of finding the truth,” Sofia admitted, “It was useful that Johannsen got the ship after it all, he helped shut down a lot of the challenges I faced with security officers coming onto the ship after the fact, having only read the news headlines. I ultimately decided to ask for a transfer because I found in some ways I was constantly in the shadow of that particularly dark chapter on the ship. My counselor at the time recommended that some distance might help overall with that and I agreed. I can handle people questioning me, but it gets a little old when they wonder if I’m going to investigate them since clearly even the CO isn’t off limits,” she remarked with a slight smile, indicating it was a slight joke, hedged in with a little truth, “All I did was investigate my superior officer’s death. His family and friends deserved closure. The case transpired the way it transpired, but in the end I got that closure for them, that’s all that matters.”

Mathias couldn’t help but chuckle. “Some people. I mean, I get loyalty to your captain and all. But there comes a point where a captain’s conduct becomes so bad that someone should step in and do something about that. And the captain murdering someone, well I think that’s a time for that.”
Mathias leaned back in his chair before continuing. “I think it’d be good for you to talk through some of this with our counselor as well, if you haven’t already. She has a bit more expertise on this sort of thing than I do. She better anyhow. How do you think having gone through all that is going to affect you here?
Captain Mathias McGarrett, CO
“I intend to sir, I plan on checking in with the CNS either before or after getting my boarding physical done,” she explained, “I see the use in talking it out, mainly because what I went through wasn’t normal and there’s still things that I do need to acknowledge and work through. I think how it will affect me here is simply that you’ll have a COS who is less likely to dismiss suspects based upon their authority rank. Beyond that, nothing much has changed. I have always placed high value on gathering the evidence and focusing on what that evidence means and what it means for the case at hand. That’s what tripped Jacobi up, overwhelming evidence she just couldn’t explain away, as much as she tried.”
She paused, “I also know that there is a very small percentage of officers in Starfleet who are psychopaths. My situation was terribly rare, the chances of me encountering another situation even somewhat similar to that is even less likely.”
~Sofia Demakis~
“Indeed,” said Mathias as he considered her words thoughtfully. “I don’t expect you to be put in quite that awkward of a situation. But if my time here has taught me anything, it’s that weird things will happen. And when they do we’ll need officers with good judgment to respond to them.”
After a brief pause, Mathias asked her, “Are there any questions you have for me? About this assignment perhaps? Or the station?”
Captain Mathias McGarrett, CO
“Not specifically, but is there anything I should be aware of, any ongoing areas of interest that as Security Chief I should continue to monitor?” Sofia asked after pondering the question for a moment.
