Sakai. Not an easy name for Nikki to pronounce, trying to mull that over with both an Irish and slight Pirate accent. He tried and did not do well to his satisfaction. This was not going to go well if he had to say anything past ‘Counselor’ which came off as a gravely lilt. That was better. He could handle that. The trouble was, Counselors felt that they had publishing material on him, that he was worthy of papers and studies and oh how they tended to want to ‘fix’ him. He wasn’t sure what this Counselor would do but he knew what they tended to want to do. Maybe he could bed this Sakai dame and put an end to that, but not be serious - any dame that wanted to get serious including this three ex-wives wanted to change him too. Everyone wanted to fix him.Pressing the buzzer he tugged on his uniform. At least he had that. Replicated duds. Uncouth and poor taste, but, in this case functional for now. He preferred his uniforms tailored how they should be - by a person. He had passed a tailor shop in the promenade. Mentally he took note of that to visit them and hoped they could do justice and not just replicate them in the back room. He wanted real duds even if they were starfleet uniforms. Better than in Kirk’s era. That boss knew how to work people, but dressed in pajamas. He missed the cigar, though it was replaced with an almost nondescript toothpick.
- Nikki, OPSAkane took a look at her diary and didn’t see an appointment but then her head was still in moving mode and she had the memory span of a goldfish so it wasn’t unusual for her to be surprised by an appointment. “Come in!” she called out as she opened the top drawer of her desk and hastily swept the clutter off her desk into the drawer, wincing a little as it clattered loudly. As was her custom, she stood to greet her guest. As the door slid open, Akane almost didn’t recognise Nikki from their earlier encounter and she had to hold back a smirk. She didn’t think she’d ever seen someone look so uncomfortable in their uniform.
“Ah, we meet again Lt,” she smiled as she gestured to the empty seat. “Please, do sit down, can I get you a drink?” she asked.

As the door slid open Nikki was sure the lass was concealing something. He figured it had to be something naughty, else why hide it? So the lass does have some spunk. He stepped in as she stood and she gave him a curious look. Ah, the lass was embarrassed about gettin caught with her fingers in the cookie jar. Just needed a little more practice at that and she’d be fine. The Iotian speculated she’d be a horrible poker player but expressive in other ways. “Aye,” he said stepping further into the room and looking around. Not so homey, he thought, then his eyes met hers as she offered a drink. The game was on. Taking the chair in what, he figured, was going to be opposite hers, he leaned back, relaxed - but for the uniform. “I suppose whiskey is off the table,” he said with a glint in his eye. “If not that then a Risan Cloberry Tea, iced. Tastes amazin with Vodka.” They served that and any number of other interesting sweet exotic drinks on the family liners. Nikki imagined that he had tasted them all over the years. While the morning was a traditional coffee, after that anything went. Starfleet did get in the way of some habits. He watched Akane even as he chewed on the toothpick. One nice thing about the ‘fleet uniforms. They did bring out the curves in the dames.
- NikkiAkane chuckled and shook her head, “you’re right, whiskey is off the table at 15:00 hours, particularly when one is on duty,” she gave him a stern but playful look. She went across to the replicator and ordered his iced tea. As she turned back she caught him checking out her figure. She plonked the tea down in front of him as a bit sploshed over the side and dripped on the deck and clicked her fingers. “Oi! I’m up here…”she said, a little more curtly than she’d intended as she pointed at her face, then softened her expression and smiled, adding, “at least when I’m in an official capacity that is…” she said, giving him a quick wink. Nikki was certainly going to be an interesting character to get to know. She quickly took her seat and cleared her throat as she got out a fresh padd. “So what brought you to Outpost 42?” she started, her voice quivering a bit. It was unusual for her to be thrown off her game but there was something about this guy that took her by surprise.

Nonplussed, Nikki took up the drink, using the sleeve of his uniform to wipe up what had sloshed, taking her rebuke in stride. A flash of annoyance crossed his features, but he held that under control and relaxed. ‘Yer not on a cruise ship, Nikki old boy,’ he thought to himself, but then considered that were she serving there she’d either be out the door, or over his knee. Leaning back in the chair, the cushions giving behind him, he took a sip. Not bad for replicated. “You are right. You can be feisty,” he said as she was taking her own seat. He liked that. There was a place for demure and submissive, but Nikki liked spirit. Spirit showed the true character.
“A rickety old scow called the Windermere,” he answered. “There seems to be a conspiracy to place me on old things and places.” He looked around to take in the room. It might be a ‘fleet’ room but it still showed some age, here and there smudges and shadows Iike liver marks on his old gran. His eyes went back to Akane. “I’m guessin because nobody else wanted this post.” He said this straight up. Direct. “I was back on me family ships on a sabbatical. I’m thinkin that they didn’t know what to do to me so left me there after the Lexington that I was on was decommissioned. Good call. Tough little ship but her best years were behind her. But then i get the message. Get thee to OP42.” He believed they were testing him again. Always testing. Never quite trusting. This place would be a Petrie dish for testing his resolve. He sipped again. Or was it that they wanted him out of the way? “Sometimes I think of places like this as either a reward or a punishment.” His gaze fell on Akane. “Which is it for you?”
- Nikki, Ops
Akane chuckled as she grabbed her box of cakes from the desk behind her. As she slid them across the desk to Nikki she replied, “actually I requested this posting, I needed a change of pace after my last assignment. So out of interest, if your family has ships, why did you choose to join star-fleet?” She asked curiously.
