Side Sim: Another Day at the Job

OOC: Sorry about the lack of posting, life got hectic, real quick! This is free for anyone to join.IC: Epello was known for being enigmatic and somewhat evasive. She popped up and left whenever she saw fit, well, depending on who was around her. She often moved about silently, making certain to create a very limited amount of noise. This was a skill engrained into her head, after years of navigating the subterranean ice tunnels that connected cities and other destinations, beneath the harsh surface of the Andorian planet. It was not as though she were attempting to be any type of ninja or something, it was merely something had grown used to, a habit that either was respected or absolutely despised.
Currently, Aryris was moving about the operations deck, seeing to scans and other routine checks that ensured the operation of the systems of the Outpost, from powergrids to life support, she wanted to make sure everything was in pristine condition. For, if it wasn’t, this rather obsessive compulsive creature would be having a bone to pick with a certain unsuspecting Operations Officer, whom she had likely asked to see to it, prior.
Perhaps this constant desire for things to be as perfect as was possible, would only be damning, in the end. However, Epello had the engineering of a large outpost to deal with. She had no desire for anything less than impeccable. For, that small fluctuation or tiny crack in a piping system, could mean mass destruction or.. even death. She couldn’t find herself able to risk that. Thus, everything was checked, as often as was possible.
Due to her lack of vision, many would assume these scans would be ineffective and useless. That being said, it was quite the opposite. While it took more energy from her mind and body to understand what the scans were reading, they were still just as useful to her as they would have been someone with 20/20 vision. In this light, she silently made her way about the deck, minding her own business as a soft hum of an old song broke quietly from her lips.

“Hmm,” The young Lieutenant mused to herself, upon finding an issue within one of the more common systems. Taking one last glance, if you would call it that, at the system, she made her way over to the panel, kneeling down to see if she could figure out what the problem happened to be.
Listening to the footsteps and voices of the world around her, she waved, when she heard the sound of an Operation Officer asking for her help. Placing herself beneath the panel, she found the issue to be within the circuiting, as if it had been pushed off axis or someone had hit it harder than it could have taken. It was a simple fix and incredibly common, at that, making it easier for her to answer the Ensign’s question.
“Yes, Ensign?” Epello did not glance at him, but made certain that he was aware she had been listening to him and was giving him her attention.
“Sorry to bother you, Lieutenant.” He fell quiet for a bit, as if waiting for a response that he never received, beyond the acknowledging ‘Hmm?’ Chewing the inside of his lip, he took a deep breath and continued. “I was wondering if you could tell me what to do about this issue?”
“Well, what seems to be the problem, Mister Yvon?” Epello was not the type who enjoyed beating around the bush, but she was paitient enough to allow for the Ensign to become comfortable with what he was trying to ask.
“I am trying to figure out how to fix an error in one of my repairs, Ma’am.” The Engineering paused, kneeling down so that he was closer to Epello, that way she didn’t have to strain her neck when trying to be respectful while listening. “I was working on one of the replicators in a rec room, but it doesn’t seem to be working. I tried looking into the power source, to see if that was an issue. However, even when that was attended to, it didn’t seem to fix the the issue. I looked into its inner workings, but nothing seemed visibly out of place.”
“Have you looked into its technology, beyond the inner mechanisms and into the matter dematerializers?”
“I had NE Gordon do so, but he said everything was fine with the systems, so it should have been working.”
“Hmm..” Epello paused, “Maybe you should look into it, as you would a transporter. They possess the same technology, using a energy-matter scrambling mechanism to convert simplistic matter into meals that possess certain ‘nutritional value.’” There was almost an eyeroll in Her voice, “So, perhaps it has something to do with the conversion, or even the control systems, which might explain why the power check was ineffective. Also, look into the energy of the Outpost, as well, replicators run off of the same sources. So, while the initial source was checked, maybe there is something else that is contributing to it?” Epello wasn’t sure, so she gave a few ideas of what to look into.
“Okay, thank you, Lieutenant.” The Ensign rose to his feet, “I’ll look into those and see if they are the issue. If your ideas aren’t, I guess I’ll be back to retrieve someone else to fix it.”
“Gee, thanks. I appreciate your faith in me,” Sarcasm dripped from her tone, hardly minding the playfulness of the Ensign, so long as he stayed respectful and kept a serious tone, when it was needed. Without a response to her, Epello could hear the Ensign laughing as he left to tend back to the Replicator, and see if maybe, just maybe, one of her suggestions was right.
Rolling her blind eyes, Epello moved from the panel, having easily fixed the issue.. for, as said before, it happened all too often. Brushing off her shoulders, as if paranoid she had dust in them, she headed back towards the main panel, glancing over the scans to see if anything else was out of order. Ah, the mundane routines of an Operations Officer.
