Jessica looked at the clock on the wall and pushed away from her desk. It was time to meet the new captain. This was the first time Jessica had ever done this. Mathias had put her in command. Life was going to be different without him but different wasn’t always bad. Leaving her office she made her way down a few doors and stopped at the one she had been looking for. Ringing the chime, she waited to be let in.

Jessica Teller XO

Graham was leaning back in his chair reading department reports on a PaDD. “Come.” he exclaimed.

Capt. Martin,
CO

“Captain Martin,” Jessica said walking into the office. “Settling in okay?”

Jessica Teller XO

“Yes Commander. I’d like to schedule a meeting with the Department Heads to formally introduce myself. Would you mind setting that up in two days time?”

Martin, CO

“No problem. We actually have staff meetings on Monday so that fits in with your timeline. Anything else you need?”

Jessica Teller XO

“Have a seat and relax Commander.” Graham had stood up briefly to walk towards the replicator. Graham spoke up in a polite manner “would you like something to drink?” He asked.

Martin, Captain

“Coffee,” Jessica replied taking a seat in one of the chairs in the office. “Just order Jessica’s blend. It’s preprogrammed in the replicator.”

Jessica Teller XO

“Computer, coffee Jessica’s blend and a hot chamomile tea with milk and sugar.” The brewed hot coffee appeared steaming hot as steam circulated outwards “ Graham sat down and handed the coffee to Jessica and looked at her file “I see here in your file that your previous position here on the outpost was Security. What brought you to the Command side?”

Martin, CO

“The old captain,” she took the mug and nodded. “The position was vacant and he liked to promote from within. We are a tight little family. Dysfunctional at times but what family isn’t. It’s a good crew. Loyal, hardworking,” she set the cup down on her leg. “You got a great first command and we are lucky to have you.”

Teller. XO

Graham smiled “thank you. Walk me through a day in Ops. What’s it like for you?”

Martin, CO

“Lots of coffee and too many meetings,” she replied back with a laugh. “I take a macro managing approach. Let the department heads handle the day-to-day unless something gets escalated up to me. What’s your approach to command?”

Jessica Teller XO

“We’ll to start off. I have an open door policy. Anyone can have a chat with me regardless of rank. My approach to Command is to show to the other crew that I will always be there for them and to look out for their safety and well-being. I’m very hands-on. I enjoy giving the necessary tools to the crew so that they can be able to succeed here.”

Martin, CO

“Good approach. The people here like autonomy. At times it can be a bit like the wild west.” Life on an outpost was far different than that of a typical starfleet ship. It contained civilians who at times were far more troublesome than even the rowdiest ensign. It took Jessica a while to adjust but in the end she could never imagine going back to hallways filled with only red, blue, and yellow uniforms.

“So Commander, where’s a good place to eat and drink?”

Martin, CO

“Depends on what you are feeling like. If you are looking for something fancy you can try the Aquatica or Luxe but I might be partial since my husband owns them. The Promenade has a bunch of food stalls that aren’t half bad if you are looking for something cheap and quick. Been there Brewed that is the only place however if you are looking for a taste of home but disclaimer again, its family-owned,” Jessica said.

“I see that your family is quite the entrepreneur of this Outpost”

Martin, CO

“On the record I am going to laugh and say its only a few shops. Off the record, I am going to say I am not sure who owns more square footage, Aedan or Starfleet,” Jessica replied with a small chuckle. It was hard to tell if she was serious or just being humble.

“As far earth foods, where can I get a good steak or burger onboard this station?”

Martin

“I’m partial to the Luxe at the casino. They fly-in Waygu.”

Graham eyes looked very curiously at the sound of the wagyu. “Are there any problem citizens that I should know about?”

Martin

“Not really. Most people go about their day to day lives here,” Jessica replied taking a sip of her coffee.
