After finishing up with her boarding paperwork, Sofia decided to get started with introducing herself to the layout of the Outpost and, in particular, the Merchant’s Wing, so that she could begin to build a bit of rapport with the civilian population. She knew merchants tended to have an immediate dislike of a security officer, but she hoped to perhaps convince them all she wasn’t looking for trouble and that her job was to keep everybody, civilian and starfleet safe.

“Look I don’t care how much it is going to cost,” a familiar voice floated out of one shop that Sofia could easily hear as she walked in the Merchants Wing of Outpost 42. “I want the Marvel Select Gambit not this thing,” Jessica held up a small action figure with a disgusted look on her face. “I mean it has these wierd sausages like yellow Homer Simpson hands and his coat.” Jessica wrinkled up her nose and moved from holding the figure to dangling it by the cape. “This…this is a hobo robe and not something a Mutant would wear. I am not paying for this one and I want the other one and I want it by Friday,” she stated hotly dropping the one on the counter.

“Miss Vaughn, we here at IFEA pride ourselves in making the customer happy but the item you are requesting is several hundred years old,” the Ferengi clerk pleaded.

“And I was paying several hundred dollars more than the cost for the convenience but if you can’t produce it I am sure I can find it elsewhere,” Jessica said turning away. It was then she saw the small boy about ten years old looking from her to the toy. As the Ferengi droned on Jessica made a decision.

“Fine I will add twenty percent to the cost but if it is not here by Friday then IFEA will be servicing one less customer.” Picking up the toy she walked over to the small boy and handed him the figure. “He really doesn’t have a hobo coat and I can’t just let him go back into that stock room. Ever see Toy Story: Starcommand Exploits Buzz and Woody take on the Dominion? I am sure they would defeat the evil Jem’Hasrboians with his help so give him a good home?” Standing up with the grace of a bloated beached whale Jessica spied Sophia.

“Chief,” she said exiting the store. “What are you doing besides the obvious,” Jessica asked giving the COS a warm smile.
