“I am glad he made you feel welcome and you are settling in ok. Minus the fact we can not actually settle in until we are on the ship. Speaking of being underway, are you looking forward to a long deployment? It can be a bit on an adjustment and a long time until we see friends and family again.” Ever asked as she settled her hand and thumb against the underside of her chin. Most ensign’s had no idea how lonely space could be on their first real cruise. Sometimes it could be a very long time before messages could be sent or received. And that never made up for the lack of physical contact with loved ones. For the crew of the Ogawa, this was about to become their new family. The counsellor needed to know how prone Chen was to loneliness or how easy she adopted.

“I dunno. Guess I really never thought about it much.” Jules couldn’t really remember a time where work and study were not intricately entwined with socialization and recreation. She thought of games and puzzles as essential social en devours. She also saw games and puzzles as the essential work of a starfleet engineering officer. She was ready for all that. “I’m looking forward to getting to work…and the stability of getting underway.”

Ever laughed lightly, her smile extending to the corner of her dark eyes, “that’s the trouble with ‘sailors’. We always seem happier at ‘sea’. I suppose that has always been the case throughout the dawn of time. No matter what planet or species, we have all travelled the same path, wanting and needing to explore more and everything around us. What made you join Starfleet and what specifically made you want to accept a commission aboard the Ogawa? This is, after all, a medical vessel. Not necessarily high up on an engineers list of dream achievements. Or am I wrong? I must confuse, I barely scrapped by the fundamental engineering parts of the Academy every officer has to endure. Sorry. I do not mean that as an insult. Tinkering with things just isn’t for me personally. “
