“Not disliking telepaths isn’t the same as being comfortable with them,” Myqian said flatly before exhaling. “Look, clearly there is a bit of uncertainty stemming from pervious interactions. All I can say is that with me, you get professionalism. I’ve been a therapist for twenty years, Commander. I know my stuff and I know people. I’m still navigating formal leadership but it’s something I feel good about. I can promise to never intentionally put you in an awkward position, but I can’t guarantee that there won’t be moments where I simply am not full aware of what was a reading of someone and what was done intentionally. I’m fallible, just like anyone.”

“I’m glad to hear it,” Brad said. “As long as you’re not putting things in my head, I can live with the occasional withdrawal.”

She shook her head. “I’m not that kind of telepath anyway. Nor are my abilities that strong. I’m a high receiver, but slightly less at sending. With another telepath, no problem, but with non psi-positive people? Not happening unless I have some sort of amplification.” Dira smiled slightly. “So, you’re completely safe on that end.”

“Good to hear it,” Brad said, radiating relief. “Want to change the topic again?”

Dira couldn’t help but laugh. “Another perk to having been a therapist is that even the uncomfortable topics can be made less awkward.” She leaned back in her chair. “But that’s all I can think of that we really need to discuss right now. I’d like to sit on some of your department’s meetings in the near future, if that’s okay with you. It’s hard to get to know the crew right now, dispersed as we are. I want everyone to know who I am and that I am here if they need anything.”
