The XO nodded. “And, as it happens, I can give you a bit more information, but it need to stay between us until the captain and I have more details to share with the crew. But… it looks like Command is going to give us a new ship. Bigger too. Much bigger. A proper hospital ship,” she said, her eyes lighting up.

Brad’s eyes widened by a fraction, and he was silent for a long moment. “Well, hot damn,” he said, letting out the rest of his breath in a low whistle. “I suppose that makes me bugging you for more staff a little irrelevant, huh?”

Dira laughed lightly. “Perhaps, though we were warned we may not be fully staff right away. ” She shrugged. “Besides, it’s useful for me as the first officer to see who will ask for the things they need and who has to have a lot more prompting. I’m not trying to be tricky here, but I’m also just getting to learn everyone’s personalities beyond their personnel files.”

“Well, I promise you’ll have no problem from me in that regard,” Brad replied. “If I have a problem, you’ll know.”

Myqian gave him a nod. “I appreciate that. And, fair warning too. I never can filter thoughts and emotions from everyone one hundred percent. I will never invade someone’s privacy if I can help it and my professionalism demands I don’t act on things without reason, but… that being said, I prefer to be more open with those I work with closely. So for the senior staff expect me to… speak up if you I feel uncertain about something I’m getting from you.” It was the best she could do. She was in transition here as much as anyone else but she was changing her entire job description after twenty years in one field. It was bound to be bumpy at times.
