“A man who liked creating art and being outdoors. Quite a combination. I always somehow imagine that artists are a bit like recluses, always indoors and hard to find. I’m sure that is not the case, but I really just have that image stuck in my head.” She shook her head at the image it conjured. A man hunched over his sculpture or painting, murmuring to himself, hair akimbo, the detritus of his work strewn over his apron and shoes… some even in his beard. Small light comes through the tiny window, only enough to illuminate the darkness within the studio. And yet she knew that wasn’t what it was like.

Dira grinned and chuckled slightly. “He’s very different than that. Very social in fact. His favourite past time is to go for walks through the forest and along beaches looking for inspiration or objects that might be useful for a project.” As she spoke of the man, Dira couldn’t help but feel that swell of fondness for Kesren and looked forward to the next time they could talk.

“Well, I am no artist myself.”

“Nonsense,” Myqian said firmly, with a flash of seriousness. “Art, like anything else is a skill that has to be cultivated. If you never practice it, you don’t learn and improve. And I would say it’s even harder for those with heaps of natural talent because they have to work harder to push themselves out of their comfort zones.” Dira leaned toward the table slightly. “And if you doubt your artistic abilities, I hereby accept the challenge of proving you wrong,” she said matter-of-factly, slipping into a smile.

Zoi leaned forward as well, resting her crossed arms on the table, a look of keen interest in her pale blue eyes. Dira had proposed a challenge. Though Zoi was not often one to rise to a proposed challenge and rarely someone baiting her, she did occasionally choose to answer a call when given. Dira was a fascinating individual and Zoi wanted to learn more about what made her tick. “Oh?” She grinned, tilting her head in question. “Exactly how do you propose you shall prove me wrong? What shall this challenge of yours consist of?”

Rather delighted that her challenge had been taken up, Dira propped her elbow on the table and rested her chin in her hand. “Hmm, well, there are any number ways we could go about it. I would suggest you pick an art form and we test it out, regardless of our skill level. I can give pointers based on things I learned from my father, and we simply have fun with it. Art can be frustrating when you’re trying to acheive something specific, but often it’s more important to just… play.”

“Hmmm.” she said, contemplating the idea and letting it roll around in her mind. Her mother had done a myriad of art projects in her therapy sessions. Though Zoi never did her own, she had sometimes helped her mother in making something. It had been a way to interact with her in a peaceful setting and was the least likely thing to make her mother go off on one of her spells. Strangely, or perhaps not so much, Zoi did not wish to do any of those art projects with Dira. She wanted positive memories.

“Alright. Art forms? Something fun and more play oriented? Sand castle sculpting?”

Haven, CoS

That was not what she was expecting! She figured drawing, painting, or clay sculpting… the usual things people thought of. But Zoi’s suggestion was surprising in the most wonderful way. “Not that is a great idea. Almost no rules at all. Just a few basic techniques and you’re good.” Her eyes lit up at the idea ad she was already working through how they might go about implementing the suggestion. “Definitely going to need the holodeck, unless we think we can somehow get to Gamma Tiltium IV some time soon. But the holodeck is more available,” she said with a light laugh that was almost lyrical.

Commander Myqian, XO

She was pleased with how much her suggestion had surprised Dira. The look on her face was lovely to see and Zoi felt a bit of pride in surprising her with her choice of art style. She had no idea how to sculpt sand, but figured Dira could help with that. Or maybe she could get some practice in beforehand.

Vacation, now that was a dreamy thought. Zoi had not had one of those in a long time. Her mind drifted to the idea of Gamma Tiltium IV and its sandy beaches and tropical climate. “Now that is a thought.” Sighing softly she shook her head. “The holodeck will do nicely I am sure. Afterall, we have the run of the Galaxy and could in fact, choose where ever we would like to go that would be suited to the activity. Also, we wouldn’t need to deal with tourists in any other way than cheering someone on. Win win?”
