Ellery blinked at Franklin and sighed ever so slightly. “What we’re trying to say is that currently it seems that the Ogawa is not going to be in useable shape for many months, and even then it would be difficult to bring some fo the systems up to the newer standards.” She gave Myqian and Taylor a more friendly smile. The Corps of Engineers has been working on a new medical ship class. The test ship passed its testing and they’ve done the necessary tweaks and moved forward with the project to replace the MCCoy-class on a ship by ship basis. They have a ship nearly ready to go, and then it’ll be ready for test flights. After that, it’ll be ready for a crew. It won’ be immediately, but it will be much sooner than if you waited for your current ship to be, maybe, possibly, functional. It’s still only a hypothetical assignment, but one we’re more and more confident would work very ell for you. What say you?”

Myqian looked at Willow with an intrigued expression. “What sort of differences are we looking at?”

That had not been what Willow was expecting at all. In fact she seemed more than a bit surprised by this turn of events. She raised her eyebrows at the smug looking marble mouth who turned a beaming smile onto Dira.

”Like you’re little boat would be a first aid box compared to a major trauma centre.” he looked at willow and held a hand up, ”No offence, the McCoy was an amazing ship in its time, but now we want bigger and better, top of the range systems, and a medical centre. NOT any number if sickbays but a full encompassed medical center.”

He looked dreamily off into the distance. His fists opening and closing excitedly.

Willow looked at the commodore, ”Are you serious?”

Ellery nodded. “Indeed we are. This Fleet clearly has a need for a proper hospital ship and it makes sense to have a proper set-up. It will also mean a much larger crew. Whether you will have that immediately or not, remains to be seen, but the crew complement is much higher, so no matter what your crew would be expanding considerably.

Dira’s dark eyes lit up. “Well then, that does sound promising indeed.” Not only was this a step up even from their current ship, but it made leaving the Calypso perhaps a little less bittersweet.

Willow smiled. ”That sounds like an amazing opportunity for us.” she hesitated to say so what’s the catch but gave Myqian a slight smile knowing she would sense the thought.

Franklin was busy rolling out blue prints and pointing out things as he did. ”So this is the ship” he explained and then they were treated to a twenty minute explanation of everything and sundry.

Dira listened with fascination, while at the same time she became increasingly aware that this change was going to mean a vastly different mode of operation for the Ogawa’s senior staff. More people, larger departments, more visiting crew, officers and crew on medical leave… all of it would mean an expanded viewpoint. A larger picture to keep in mind. After all, most departments on the new ship would be bigger than the entirety of the current Ogawa’s crew!

“Wow…” Myqian said, leanign back in her chair. It was, after all, a lot to process.

”Wow indeed…”Willow added, she wasn’t sure what else to say.

“Like we said, it won’t happen immediately. There will a transition period as new crew is brought to bring the complement up to a minimally acceptable level for the larger ship. How that all shakes down yet we’ll be figuring out as things progress,” the commodore said.

Nodding, that seemed right, willow nodded. ”Then I guess I can only but exception behalf of the crew. ” she smiled slightly,
