Riani shook her head. “I don’t think that will be necessary. It seems to have passed as quickly as it came. I just don’t want to tempt it quite yet,” she replied sheepishly. “As for the teacup … I … I needed a … a hat …” With every word she spoke her voice become softer and saying it out loud she started to feel incredibly foolish and her cheeks turned crimson.

“A hat…” Achilleas started to say before getting distracted by a whiff of something.

The CSO soon started to detect the faintest whiff of tea while suddenly feeling very excitable and unpredictable. One could even say that Petrakos was beginning to feel mad as a March hare.

Iyun, on the other hand, recovered from her flirtation with nausea, had begun to feel nervous or even anxious and was having difficulty remembering things. Not full on amnesia but definitely struggling to recall events that happened more than a hour previously.

Both science officers, however, were slowly coming to the realization that a tea party is just what would be needed in a time like this. What without a ship shouldn’t the crew deserve something fun? Yes a tea party should do quite nicely.

While she had felt nervous and awkward ever since Achilleas had walked in on her sitting on the floor, Riani noticed her anxiety rising more and more. Her chest was tightening, her heart racing and she felt like she couldn’t get enough oxygen into her lungs. At first she didn’t dare letting go of the teacup in fear it would fall. Yet it didn’t take long till her vision got blurry and the sounds around her became slightly muffled. Placing one hand on her chest and the other on her stomach, she tried to force herself to breath deeply into her hands while mentally walking herself through a grounding exercise. While she slowly managed to get a bit of a handle on her anxiety again, it wasn’t long till the cup slipped off her head and this time it broke in two as it hit the ground, which made it even harder for her to regain control. Yet she still couldn’t say why it was so important that she had a hat.

Achilleas, surprising himself and probably Ria too, went from crouching to leaping onto the nearby table. Surprisingly made the jump without any mishaps, though he would be sure to feel some sore muscles later.

Riani’s eyes went wide as she watched Achilleas jump onto the desk. Was that normal behavior for him? She wasn’t sure and found herself struggling with remembering anything about him. That troubled her and unsurprisingly didn’t help with her anxiety attack.

“Of course a hat!” He shouted a lot louder than he would usually, “A hat and some tea! God I could go for some tea right now. How about you?”

CSO Petrakos

“Uhm … sure,” Ria nodded. “Tea sounds good,” she said in a barely audible whisper as she was still struggling to breath properly. Yet tea always helped her to calm down a little, so having some right now wasn’t a bad idea. As long as she wasn’t the one who had to get the tea. Not only was she feeling too weak-kneed, she also couldn’t remember where she might find any tea in this place. She wasn’t even entirely sure where she actually was.

Achilleas hopped down from the table and began hopping around the room in an attempt to find tea and of course a hat! As is possible when everything in the universe seems weird and unstable, he actually found a hat to wear, for himself and Ria. His was a cool Greek fishermen’s hat while the hat for Ria was more Victorian in style.

With a hat coiffed upon his head with a slant to it, Achilleas hopped back to Ria and handed her the hat he found for her. Now that the first task was accomplished the next major mission was to procure tea!

Taking the head from Achilleas, Riani smiled softly and felt herself relax some. A hat! Finally! And such a pretty one on top of that! With a hat came the feeling of security and being a full person again. So she lost no time putting it on and to make sure it would stay where it was, used the closest thing to a hatpin she could find.

“But where to get tea?” He muttered, clearly not thinking about replicators in any way.

Then the idea struck him, “Of course!” This was a science lab, so burners and chemicals were abundant. Just had to throw something together and drink it!

CSO Petrakos

While Achilleas was looking, Ria rose finally back to her feet. If they were to have a tea party, they needed a to have a nicely decked table. And food. No afternoon tea without without the proper food. Wandering over to the replicator she ordered a a large table cloth, fine china tea cups with saucers, matching plates, teapots - without tea; Achilleas was taking care of that after all - milk jug and sugar bowl (with milk and sugar). Walking over to a nearby table she brushed the PaDDs and all to the floor and then decked the table neatly. Returning to the replicator she ordered cucumber sandwiches, scones, clotted cream, strawberry jam, an assortment of sweet pastries and carrot cake. After placing those items on the table as well, she tilted her head and started at everything for a while, apparently quite oblivious to what Achilleas was doing. All of a sudden she exclaimed, “Flowers!” and hurried back to the replicator. After placing three large bouquets on the table she pushed several chairs all around it and then sat down at the head of the table, waiting for Achilleas to arrive with the tea.

Achilleas started gathering together the necessary components to make ‘tea’. It was a laborious process but he was able to extract and refine; Theanine, Catechin, Epigallocatechin gallate, Flavan-3-ol, Epicatechin gallate, and Theaflavin digallate. With two bubbling beakers full, he brought them over to the table set up quite nicely and slowly poured them into the teapot before chucking the beakers over his shoulder.

“This looks just divine my dear! A most appropriate set of tea party assortments!”

CSO Petrakos

“As it should be,” Ria said with unusual confidence. Yet as she reached for a scone, she suddenly hesitated. Was this as it should be? She couldn’t remember. Why couldn’t she remember? She should know if they had tea together regularly , shouldn’t she? Her mind started to spin and her chest tightened again. All the while she stared uncharacteristically at Achilleas, hoping he would do or say something that would give her a clue whether or not they always had afternoon tea in this place.

Achilleas first poured Ria some tea and then himself as if it was the most natural thing in the world. He then added cream and sugar to his before offering it to her. Taking a piece of carrot cake, he took a big bite and his eyes went wide.

Riani added a little sugar to her teas as well, but no cream. Stirring her tea with a fork, she smiled somewhat absentmindedly.

“My God that carrot cake is divine! What in the world did you put in it?” He exclaimed before he proceeded to quickly gobble down the rest of his piece. He took a quick sip of hot ‘tea’ before he then reached for another piece.

CSO Petrakos

The other science officers began to watch as the two started their little tea party. One of the NEs looked to another and mentioned, “Should we let.... someone know what is going on here? Maybe medical? Medical would know what to do.”

The other shook her head, curly brown locks twisting about, “No, I want to see how this plays out first.”

GM Wombat

“Carrots, I suppose?” Riani replied uncertainly. “It was the replicator, though, who made the cake. I just said what we’d need.” After taking a sip of her own tea, she cut the scone in half and put on both halves clotted cream and strawberry jam. Though on the bottom half she up the clotted cream first; where es she put the jam first on the top half. She then took first a bite form the top half then from the bottom half. Which way was better? She wasn’t sure, so she took one more bite each. A frown appeared on her face as she continued to contemplate her scone. The top half tasted creamer, which was nice. But she also really liked the bottom half wich tasted more like strawberries. Why couldn’t she decide? In a move that was probably surprising to everyone present, she put both halves bock on the plate and pushed them towards Achilleas. “Which one is better? Tell me!” she insisted with a hint of desperation in her voice.
