Kree nodded and internalized her thoughts about when she first boarded the Ogawa. The pace of the treadmill sped up and she had to concentrate to keep her pace. Conversation at this point was pretty much out of the question. Time passed in amicable silence and finally, the speed began to drop back down. Talyn was covered with glistening layer of sweat by then and grabbed the towel from the handlebars and wiped her face as she ran.

“Mine too, ma’am. Mine too.” She said. If Melaia wanted to talk, Zoi could. She wasn’t running fast, just a mild pace that would keep up her heart rate without over stimulating it after strength training. The counselor’s words rang in her mind, reminding her that she needed to reach out, make friends. She needed to risk in order to gain. She could go back to her quiet quarters and enjoy the rest of her day entirely in peace with food from the replicator like always, or she could shovel up some courage and start trying. Finally she stopped her treadmill and turned to the two women, Melaia and Talyn. “Would you both care to join me for dinner in the lounge this evening?”

Trotting a slow jog at this point of her workout to cool down, the invitation was a pleasant surprise. One more swipe of the towel over her face and the XO smiled and nodded. “I’m game. What time?”

Mel was keeping her pace fairly slow, but it was still a decent workout and now she slowed a bit more to a casual walk. She had been at least mindful of the fact that her body had gone through quite a change carrying twins and it wasn’t going to be back to what it had been at the snap of her fingers, nor without work. “Count me in. I’ll have to check that Jon can be home to look after the twins, but I should be able to sneak away, I think.”

“While you’re here Commander, I figure I might as well broach a topic with you. Wasn’t sure if I should go to you first or the CSO, but the Captain suggested and gave me permission to get back to working and do so here on the Ogawa. I used to be a scientist, long before I ever trained in Command, and the general feeling is that it would be good for me. I’ve… been having a difficult time switching to being a full-time mother,” Mel said, keeping her tone quite casual, despite the flurry of emotions it stirred internally.
