Posted by Commander Dira Myqian (Executive Officer) in SB 157: XO’s Temp Office- Message to all Senior Staff
Before her impending meeting with Willow and the Starbase command team, Dira settled into the small space that would serve as a temporary office until the ship was in a functional state. Given the circumstances, she knew that she (and everyone else) needed to be flexible. To that effect, she thought through the message she wanted to send and once satisfied, sent it off on the group list they were set up with.
To: USS Ogawa [SENIOR STAFF]
From: Commander Myqian, Dira, Executive Officer
======================Hello everyone,
By now I’m sure you’ve heard the rumours that the Ogawa has been assigned a new XO. I am that person. I’ve only had a chance to have a fairly brief conversation with Captain Taylor, and would like to take the opportunity to get to know everyone. With these unusual circumstances, and being on the Starbase for the next while, I’d like to set up meetings with each department. It can be a one-on-one with the department head, or I’m happy to sit down with your entire team. The overall size of the crew means this is more doable than it would be on other ship, but I will let you all decide what you feel works best.
As I’m eager to officially get to work, I’ll also be arranging appointments in the Infirmary and with Psychiatry with Ogawa crew to satisfy my boarding requirements, so these will be in addition to the department meeting as necessary.
Please reply back with what sort of meeting you’d prefer and any current needs facing your department. My job is to facilitate the needs the crew as much as I can, so please don’t hesitate to let me know what those may be.
Regards,
Dira Myqian
First impressions were not the ned of the galaxy but with the additional stresses the crew had been under, it was important that they understood she was here to join their team. She would do her best to smooth things along as best she could, but she had to admit she was in certain danger of getting exactly what she asked for and then regretting it. Ah well, whoever said the life of an XO was easy?
Commander Myqian, XO
Zoi had met with the Captain before they had come to Starbase 157 so when she had received the message from the new XO, she was more than happy to reply though she was a bit too busy to get to it right away that day. The more she knew of expectations for her job and the more she knew about the people she worked with, the better she could do her job.
Good evening Commander Myqian.
My apologies for not getting to you right away. As you can understand, it has been rather busy getting the Ogawa in working order and ready for residents once more. I am done with my shift at 17:00 however, I anticipate an hour of extra work and interruptions that inevitably happen. Would you like to meet me at the Boiler Room Cafe at 18:00 local time? They have coffee, tea, hot pots, anything to do with boiling water or broths and it is quite a lot more comfortable than temporary offices can be.
Lt. Zoi Haven, Chief of Security
That sounds like a lovely plan. I’ll meet you then.
~Dira
At the appointed hour, Zoi was sitting in one of the eclectic collection of chairs that littered the space. Among the many tables and chairs, not a single duplicate existed and yet they all seemed to suit one another without looking like it was done on purpose. There were many reasons why Zoi enjoyed this cafe and the strangely wonderful mismatch of furniture was one of them. Thankfully, she had less interruptions and last minute things than she had expected and she had been able to have some time to change and tidy up. It had been quick, but she felt less stiff after a long shift. For the occasion, she had chosen a simple black shift, pants and a multi colored knit wrap. (https://i.imgur.com/fTcG2M2.jpg) Her hair was its normal wild blonde waves.
The server came by and placed a tray before her with a beautiful stone tea set with hand painted filigree patterns all over them. She smiled to the Andorian woman and began pouring herself a cup.
Haven, CoS
How a person responded to the invitation and how and when they showed up or made an appointment told Dira a lot of things about them. In this case, she didn’t have to have read Haven’s file to know at least something about the woman simply from their brief text exchange. For example, she could tell that Haven was open to being social and liked her downtime. Or perhaps the better phrasing was that she understood its importance and how to make the most of it. Knowing the woman was of a long lived species only made that simply make sense, even if it was a generality that she may or may not be able to apply in this case.
Still, a dinner meet-and-greet was a more intimate thing, allowing for a casual sense of letting down boundaries. In her experience, those that were willing to see her outside of her office saw her less adversarially than those that grudgingly came to appointments. But therein lay the thing she had to be careful of: she was no longer a therapist. At least not a practicing one, despite the fact that she fully intended to keep her license active. While she could use her skills and experience to know and understand how and why people were acting as they were, she wasn’t out to treat them. It wasn’t her place anymore. If she saw an issue, at most she could direct them to the practicing therapists on board, even order them to. But that was the line she must not cross, and only time would tell how hard it would be to not step over it.
Stepping into the lovely little establishment, Myqian couldn’t help but smile. It was quirky, and she liked quirky. She had opted for a fitted floral matte satin top in jewel tones, sleeveless and with a flare at the hips, and a simple stretchy skirt in black to the floor. Comfortable, but just formal enough to still understand that while casual, this still was a meeting, even if it was in a much more enjoyable setting.
Moving through the place, she spied Haven quickly and moved to the table. “Zoi?” she asked, knowing it was her, but not wanting to startle her too much in case the other woman’s mind wasn’t focused at the moment.
Commander Myqian, XO
Zoi stopped pouring her cup and looked up at the Commander. Like herself, the woman was dressed casually, but nicely to reflect the purpose of the meeting. It was interesting that she used Zoi’s first name rather than rank and last name. Taking the queue from her, Zoi nodded and set down the tea kettle. “Yes. You must be Dira. Please, have a seat. Do you like lavendar and pumpkin tea?”
She picked the kettle back up to finish pouring her cup. If Dira liked the tea, she would simply pour the second cup present. If not, she would place it down closer to her so that the XO could order her own preferred drink. As with many people who either interacted with telepaths or were themselves telepaths, Zoi was a locked book. Only her surface thoughts of enjoyment of the drink and place, the comfort of her clothing choices, and the mild excitement of meeting someone new played in her mind for a telepath to read.
