Gordon stepped into the security office dressed in his working uniform, his boots although duller than a dress uniform level of shine still held a high sheen to them. His hip holster was empty and he seemed to unconsciously run his hand over it from time to time, almost like he was expecting to feel a phaser in it and its absence was unsettling to him.A tall yet young looking enlisted Andorian waved Gordon to him from the rear of the room, he was near a gaggle of other enlisted crew who were a hub of of activity. Some weapons lay dismantled on the nearby work tops while crewmen prepped their phasers, a variety of them appeared old and battered while others seemed fresh from the replicator. Gordon swallowed nervously and walked over, extending his hand as he reached the Andorian. He was a Petty Officer First Class and although appeared near to Gordons age he appeared to hold himself with an air of confidence well beyond his years.
“Crewman Gordon Muir, sir…good to meet you…” Gordon said as confidently as he could, trying to mask the air of uncertainty that he never the less exuded. The Andorian smiled back and shook Gordons hand with a firm grip. “Telev Shran, although if the officers around its Petty Officer Shran. Here’s your weapon, I checked it out for you…”
Telev’s other hand appeared with a hand phaser along with a few additional power cells, “I trust your quite happy with how to use this....” Telev said with a slight challenge in the voice. Gordon took the weapon, cleared it then began dissembling it on the table next to them, “All good....Shran, are you okay with Shran?” Gordon replied with a quick glance towards the Andorian. Telev nodded his ascent as Gordon snapped the Phaser back together and holstered it, he debated grabbing a drink before this briefing began but decided against it.

Zoi stepped into the security office a minute or two after Muir and Shran met each other. Her intensely blue eyes were on the PaDD in her hand, but she easily navigated between people until she was at the front of the room. “Good Morning everyone.” She said as she lifted her gaze to those gathered. She knew them all by having worked along side them or having met them as the new Chief. She smiled and waited for their echoing morning responses.
Gordon reflexively braced up as the doors opened, Shran bracing up up a few moments later upon sight of Zoi.
“Aright. Lets settle down and get comfortable. We have no specific mission as yet for our ship as a whole. The Ogawa is almost finished with repairs. It is our duty to get it security ready so lets go over roles and expectations for this shift. Patrols: You are assigned Decks 1 through 3. I want a thorough check of every nook and cranny. Look for suspicious or unknown parts. Work with Engineering if you don’t know what something is. If it is suspicious in nature or engineering cannot determine what it is, report it to me for further investigation. Look for superfluous bags or crates. Determine if it belongs there and if it does not, make sure to get with the appropriate department to have it moved. Look for open doors that should be locked. Secure all areas. If the area is needed after today, it will have to be opened by the appropriately briefed party. Decks 4-10 will be allotted to subsequent shifts over the next two days.”
Gordon had removed a small PaDD and was tapping softly on it, noting down the key details, Shran meanwhile simply listened in occasionally glancing at the notes made in the PaDD. Shran lent towards Gordon to speak softly, “What is the highest priority on those three decks?”. The young man stopped typing and glanced up at Shran, “Uhh Bridge, Sickbay or transporters?” he replied in a less than confident answer. “Are you asking or telling me?” Shran said in a challenging tone, his eyes not leaving Zoi. “Bridge, everything else is secondary.” Gordon replied after a moments thought, he hoped it was right…this wasn’t really the level of thinking he was used to. Shran simply replied with a soft “hmm”…
“Tactical: I want a full diagnostic run on all weapons. Start with ship weapons and defenses for this shift. Have analysis to me by the end of today. Arsenal caches throughout the ship as well as personnel weapons checks will be done in subsequent shifts over the next two days. Every weapon must be at ready to use state.... in perfect working order or it gets replaced. All personnel weapon issuances will be documented. All non phaser type weapons, specifically personal weapons of the crew will need to be documented.”
Shran lent over then appeared to pause, “You don’t have a personal weapon do?…” he asked in a somewhat considerate tone for an Andorian. “No, never felt the need for one…” replied Gordon glancing back and forwards between Shran and Zoi as the briefing continued. “Good, if you do then speak to one of us as it can involve lengthy documentation.” replied the older Andorian straightening up as Zoi finished her briefing.
“I will be updating our records on non Federation ships, their tactical capabilities and their weapons payload. In addition, I will be bringing on a few new holo simulations for training purposes. Jungle warfare, diplomatic escorting, and some black ops sneak scenarios.” She grinned fiercely. “We will definitely have some fun training in the next few months.”
“Urgh Jungles....why is never Tundra training?” Shran commented quietly for only Gordon to hear, who simply grunted softly in agreement. Gordon hated his jungle phase at security training on Bajor, especially going from basic training on the frozen wastes of Andoria to the baking sun of Bajor.
“Any questions about duties today?”

Gordon raised his hand, Shran’s antennae raised as he turned to look at the younger crewman. “Ma’am, are we expecting any visitors from the Starbase today?” he asked after clearing his throat nervously.
Crewman Gordon Muir, Sec
The room had not been overly large, so every word the crewman and ensign said was fairly easy to hear for anyone in their general vicinity. The new Chief had let them have their illusion of being unheard until she had given her general orders out and had opened the floor to questions. Instead of asking any of the questions that had been whispered though, Crewman Muir asked her a completely new one.
She nodded, choosing to address this one first. “To answer the question that you spoke aloud, yes… we will have Starbase personnel around today. None of them should be on decks 1-3 without a security escort or senior staff escort. Turbolifts will not go to decks 1-3 for anyone from the Starbase unescorted. If you find someone who is unaccompanied, you are to detain them and inform me immediately.”
She grinned then, “As for your other questions. The highest priority is always the Bridge. However, I want the work done Deck by Deck starting with Deck 1. Systematically, you will do all of the tasks I have outlined as you go. Divvy up the work as you like, but you as a team will be responsible for the work. Finish all tasks for the space you are working in and then lock that space down. You should know this process from your time in the academy if nothing else. If you don’t know the basics of a thorough clearing and securing deck by deck, you need to see me for remedial training.” Her cold blue gaze fell directly on Muir. “Let me know.”
Then she moved on to his friend. “Ensign Shran, I can always add Tundra training. I will make a note.”
Once again she returned her attention to the room at large, not picking on any one person just as she had in the briefing. “In the future, if you have legitimate questions during a briefing, I would rather you spoke them aloud when I ask for questions from my staff rather than whispering. We are a team here and you never know if someone else has the same questions you have. Do not be afraid to ask for details on procedures, though a good guide for all of you is that I am a by the book kind of person. I find Star Fleet has a very good process to begin with and I only differ from it when I feel it necessary for the situation.”
“Any other questions?”
