“I totally do,” he said quietly. “I mean, if that’s, like, OK.” Bob wasn’t really sure what the etiquette was on service dogs, but he knew that they were to be considered as “working personnel” like anyone else he might encounter, and that it was inappropriate to touch them unsolicited. Which was very much at odds with his opinion that dogs were the most wonderful creatures in the galaxy. “Opinion” being a word that was only correct in the most narrow, pedantic sense to describe that particular state of affairs.

He was so taken in by the sight of a dog in space that he accidentally overlooked the standard courtesy of responding properly to the Ensign’s introduction.

Geth smiled a bit and let the leash drop out of his hand, and in the moment the Doberman moved forward. “This is Hades.” The dog started licking the humans hand almost pushing it onto his head. “I don’t care in a setting like this if anyone pets him.. its more outside of a safer place .” Geth took a few steps in and sat down in a chair and chuckled softly. “Not used to seeing dogs anymore Sir?”

Bob walked over to Hades carefully and offered him his closed fist, palm facing downwards. Clearly he was used to greeting dogs, at least somewhere.

“Not on ships,” he said simply. “Not in Engineering, certainly. But I assume he is trained and won’t be a problem, so I won’t even ask unless you need me to know something specific. Regardless of all of that, they are the best creatures.”

“Oh, I’ve forgotten my manners,” he said abruptly. “Sorry. I’m Lieutenant Robert Mason.”

“No it should be fine, He is mostly there in case I end up not being able to stop a flashback.. Hades usually will sit off under my feet or off in a corner watching me till shift is over” Hades leaned into the hand and licked it before sitting down and offering a paw to the Chief. “Nice to me you Chief”

“Aww… that’s a good boy, Hades, it’s nice to meet you” Bob said in a silly voice, and shook the dog’s paw, and also pet the base of the dog’s neck.

Mason then looked up and gave more attention to the Ensign. “I haven’t actually read your file yet,” he said in a more businesslike fashion. “Is this your first time out?” There wasn’t going to be any petting of Gethmire’s neck, apparently.
